: Is this a scam or what?
Joe Las Vegas 03-04-2010, 04:34 PM I found this GCSRT8 for sale HERE (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=275810799&dealer_id=65082695), it's listed as a GC, but the pics show a GCSRT8.
Problem is it only has 12,700 miles, and it's only $23,600, $10,000 less than what it should be.
I E-mailed the guy, second problem is, he tells me he's in Louisiana when it says La Puente, CA in the listing, then I asked him questions about the car, asking him if it was a true GCSRT8 and not a GC with a body kit on it, I asked him for pics of the engine, and he never answers questions about the car, all he talks about is money transfer between bank accounts, as if I was gonna send some jackass $23,600 for a car I can't look at or test drive.
This is the E-mail I got from him: "If you are interested in buying the car you have to know that once you receive it you have 7 days to test drive it and inspect it and if you find that it is not like I said, you can send it back on my expense...but I'm sure that won't be the case...After starting up the transaction at Yahoo Autos, my money which are deposited in their safe account will be blocked until the end of the deal, so I won't be able to withdraw them until we've finished the deal.
You make the payment to Yahoo Autos through bank to bank transfer.
After they check the payment they announce me to start the shipping.
After you will receive the car and see that is ok, you have to announce them that you have it.
Only then, Yahoo Autos will send me the money. I will not receive any money before you will receive the car.
In order to begin the deal, please email me your full name, shipping address and phone# in order to open the case at Yahoo Autos, and they will contact you with all the information you need."
What do you guys think?
Is this Yahoo Auto thing real?
Donnie91 03-04-2010, 04:36 PM did you run a car-fax?
SrtJake 03-04-2010, 04:36 PM Classic scam my friend,stay far,far away.Sorry.
BOYCHIKS 03-04-2010, 04:37 PM If it is too good to be true, then it is fake.
WESLEY KAY 03-04-2010, 04:38 PM It's a scam. I would send a copy of that e-mail with your comments (SRT8 vs non-SRT8) to the Yahoo website managers immediately. Someone will probably fall for this scam. There are plenty of dumb people out there to fall for this, but I would rather stick it to the scammer instead of the scammee. Report it.
My opinion.

SRT8-KSA 03-04-2010, 04:41 PM SCAMS SCAMS ... stay away from it !!
I ran into the same story with a RANGE ROVER SPORT before getting the Jeep ...
And ended up with finding out that it was a nasty scam
Joe Las Vegas 03-04-2010, 04:42 PM I reported it as fraud to Autotrader where it's listed, we'll see if they take off the listing
I replied to the E-mail saying this: "This is not how I buy cars, first you must answer questions about the car and send pictures I request, second, I want to see a copy of the title and your ID to make sure the car is yours, third, if I like what I see, I'll come over to Louisiana, even though it says La Puente, CA in the listing (scam alert #2) (scam alert #1 is the very low price), then after test driving the car, checking it thoroughly and checking the VIN number, I'll give you the check and we'll sign the papers in person, so if you're for real let me know, if not, forget it."
Knuckles 03-04-2010, 04:45 PM Yes this is a TOTAL scam!! I went thru the samething with a guy trying to buy a car I sold 2 years ago. If its too good to be True then it is man. Come on we all know what these Jeeps are worth and that right thee is a straight up Scam Joe.
Joe Las Vegas 03-04-2010, 04:55 PM Yes this is a TOTAL scam!!Come on we all know what these Jeeps are worth and that right thee is a straight up Scam Joe.
He listed it as a GC, not the SRT8 model, the only reason I looked at it is because when I saw the photo I realized it was a GCSRT8, so I thought it was a mistake or something, that's why I looked into it further.
Would have been awesome to get me a GCSRT8 for that kind of money with such a low mileage.
We'll see if he replies to my E-mail, I doubt he will.
stratssrt8 03-04-2010, 05:38 PM I called about one for $18k.It was in MI and he emailed me he was actually in CO and placed the add out of state for greater response and to send him a deposite to come test drive it,SURE I will.:rocket:send it special delivery.
eddiefig 03-04-2010, 05:43 PM Just be glad you second guessed it and asked for advice instead of getting excited and commiting to it by sending money.
LoudPedal 03-04-2010, 06:09 PM Same deal here in Irvine last year...the pic was an 08 GCSRT8 $24K with 12K miles. Almost the same exact bs e-mail I got except the dude threw in he was in the navy on a ship and couldn't show me the car.
rglax 03-04-2010, 06:19 PM I got the same story with one here in New Jersey. Person said it was in Maine. I said I could drive up and visit family at teh same time. Then they say that it was already in a shipping crate 0.0? At that point I sent them a nice email detailing how they are the scum of the earth and some other classy pieces of advice
Squilly D 03-04-2010, 07:38 PM I saw this car listed on Auto Trader a couple of weeks back and emailed as well. The ad listed Houston as the location but of course the email said the car was in Louisiana. The response I got was the same as yours. I started comparing the photos of the Jeep to others beause it was advertised as a '08 but had '07 front end. Turns out the pics were the exact same ones as another listing on Auto Trader in Dallas. I sent an email to the seller asking to explain and received no response. Total scam!
mklaus 03-04-2010, 07:43 PM seemsss to be a SCAM

It's definately a scam, sorry to say.
I found the same deal, 12k miles for $23k when I was looking in the fall of last year.
The story I got was that I needed to send the money and I could test drive blah, blah, blah!!
He claimed to be a pilot out of the country for a while so he couldn't meet with me. . . .you get the point.
These people should be tortured! :)
Dimitri_0515 03-08-2010, 08:29 PM There is one listed on cars.com also. For some reason it's not letting me post the link so you'll have to do it the old fashioned way.
Dimitri_0515 03-11-2010, 10:52 PM Haha this jackass lowered the price to $15,000 now. This pisses me off

I have bought and sold some cars online and these guy's never have correct grammer. I think they are from outside the country. Any way this is alway's a red flag for me. One time i was selling a car on craigslist and got an email from some one and reply'd asking them what color the car was that I was selling and they never responded. I also really like when I am selling a car and I guy will respond and say "I will like to buy your car. Dollars okay. Where I send a cashiers check for the full amount plus $1000?" That is my favorite email. I just respond "iwilllike2sayno"
