Guys, I know the mileage/gas tank capacity has been a common complaint for a while. My question is, would it be possible to install a larger aftermarket tanks? As Resumespeed had it in his wishlist, 4-5 gal more would do the trick.

how about hooking up a hitch and towing an external tank?

Seriously, this will be one of the first mods I will do.
First the rear exhaust system will be reworked. Where the twin pipes travel over the rear axle, I' cut the pipes off.
Then remove the rear crash frame.

I will install a regular Grand Cherokee 2 inch receiver hitch, (just picked it up from the dealer today)
Coping the crash frames sides that bolt to the unibody frame, tying into the stock 2 inch receiver hitch. Then I'll custom fab new twin exhaust pipes without the resonators that follow the outboard frame rails.
The new rear exhaust system will then exit thru the lower rear light squares.
I'll fab some new rectangular Stainless Steel tips.

Then from what I've measured/figured I should be able to squeeze between a 25 to 30 gallon fuel cell in there.
The fuel cell will feed directly by gravity to the existing tank with a new bung.
If necessary I'll install a fuel transfer pump for the last ten gallons or so.

Should be interesting and definitely looking forward to the finished product. Pull off the Jeep emblems while you are at it!
