Been following this thread in General Discussion about oil type...

http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38422

But I have a question for the guys up here. Oil gets thinner at high altitudes. I was also wondering about the low temps we get. Is either, or the combination of temp and altitude, an issue as to what oil to use?

The manual says see filler cap, but my bet is that's generic across every SRT8 sold, regardless of geography. Mine says Mobile 1 0-40, but it also says "Factory Fill" underneath that.

I can't answer your question, I don't know much about cars but as a FYI I use Mobile 1 0-40 - no problems here.

they used to say 5-40 but jeep an mobil 1 dont play together well so now they sell penzoil or some crap that dont come in 5/40 only 10-40 so they changed it.

i used to live in a colder place than you and in the winter we used 0w30

What do you mean they don't get along Rob? Corporate games, or some tech reason?

I just went to the Pennzoil and Mobil 1 sites and chose the SRT8. Pennzoil had no recommendation as to which grade to use. Mobil 1 said 0-40, and it also had a "Factory Fill" menu option, so I guess that's just a marketing thing. Anyways I think I'm gonna stick with Mobil 1 unless I hear some reason not to. Or I can't find it. Still gonna ask the service mgr over at Pollard and see what he says.

BTW, here's what I found at Pennz (see image)...

Thanks guys!

Thanks Rob! I'd missed that thread. I found:

Advance (http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_European-Car-Formula-0W-40-Synthetic-Motor-Oil-(1-qt-)-Mobil1_8110006-P_N4019A_T|GRP2046____)

Checker (http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=MBI&MfrPartNumber=98HC64)

But neither have the numbers my manual specifies:

MS-10725, MB 229.3, MB 229.5

Maybe the MS-10850 is the change from 0-40 to 5-40...

Guess I'll see what they offer in 5-40.
