I've researched this pretty well, but I'm looking to get some more answers. For those of you using the plug-and-play class 2 trailer hitch, what is the most weight you can tow safely? I really need to have the ability to tow a 19 foot boat, without spending an arm and a leg on a custom trailer hitch.

Edit- I assume the best option is the Mopar bolt on. I'm looking for one with no modification to the stock exhaust.

Thoughts?

SRT Mopar hitch is rated for 3500#. I tow a 18 1/2 ft boat(2000#) with no issues. I am sure you can go over that but don't plan to sue anybody if it fails. It isn't really plug and play as you have to remove the rear bumper to get it on. You will need to adjust your stock tips but that is all the modifying you will need to do.

I did same until I went to Borla. Even that worked fine. I adjusted to 1" longer hangers just to be safe (they were off the shelf at my local Autozone) You should be in good shape. My 18' boat and trailer is around 3,000 lbs or so. Since I have a 5 pin connector on the trailer, I did need to tie into the back-up lights circuit. Splicing in was a fairly easy job... and I'm certainly no electrician. Enclosed pic of course is with the Borla.

I pulled a 24" boat with the Mopar hitch just fine. For some reason it fit O.K with the Borla with no modification.

Where is the best/cheapest place to buy the hitch. Is it specific to the SRT8 or any GC

If you don't want to modify your rear bumper you need to buy an SRT specific hitch. Try these 2 places

I suspected it would fit, but went ahead and lowered the exhaust by 1" to try to reduce heat to the trailer tongue (and the brake hydraulic fluid reservoir). Good for anyone interested to know it works either way. Not lowering by 1" I'm sure looks better. By the way, the tongue (and chains) still get fairly warm anyway, so I may go back up to standard level and try to wrap insulation on the tongue or just see if it really doesn't matter a whole lot!

It really doesn't get that hot. The only time I had an issue was when my wires were in the exhaust stream. Raise that exhaust, mine is all ready low enough, yours must look very weird.

LOL !!! I burnt the crap out of my leg and also the wires the first day not knowing how hot it would get it must be the Florida heat. I'm sure it wouldn't be so bad up north.

My point is, keep the wires away from the exhaust and you should have no issues. Sure the chains get hot but so what.
