: More cleaning questions (tailpipes)
2007GCSRT8 04-18-2007, 09:12 AM Well the weather is finally nice up here in MN. That means I can finally get out and clean some of the things you let go in the winter a little.
I'd say I got the tailpipes 95% clean. I used a mitt and cleaned inside the best I could. There seem to be a little black stuff that will not come off. What have you guys done to clean there, what tool and what chemical?
I think I'm going to go buy one of those Mother's Powerball and give that a try on the tailpipes and tire rims. Anyone tried that yet?

OurZoo 04-18-2007, 09:15 AM The powerball is great for the rims. For the pipes, I use a microfiber towel and Mothers aluminum polish.

A quick question about the PB on the rims. Do you wash the rims off at all before you use the powerballs, or do you just go at the dirty rim with the balls?
Here come the sex jokes!!!
OurZoo 04-18-2007, 09:26 AM LMAO!!!! :D :D NO! I always wash the rims with soap and water first. I use the PB to apply sealant or polish. Whenever I wash either of my cars I always use a separate bucket with separate sponges and wash the rims first. Just my method, but I liiiike it.
I use never dull for the tail pipes. works killer.
Mango 04-18-2007, 10:41 AM The powerball does an alright job on the inside of the pipes, on the outside it's best done by hand.
On the Corsa exhaust, the mothers polish works relatively well. I'll be looking for something else though, it does not stay clean at ALL! They get messed up pretty quickly.
bakes159 04-18-2007, 10:50 AM hey go to your local auto zone or whatever you have and they have a product called NEVR DULL it come in a tin looks kind of like an altoid holder. It will take anything off of your tips and it will not damage them at all!!! It cost $3 - 4 dollars
squigmang 04-18-2007, 10:53 AM I use never dull for the tail pipes. works killer.
x2
neverdull is magic
kramsay1234 04-18-2007, 11:19 AM I use neverdull as well. I do find though if the metal has gone a little past just just greese or dirt that it won't do it. But grab a wad and clean the pipes and watch how black the neverdull wad is...
bakes159 04-18-2007, 11:22 AM put a lil elbow grease into and i have never had a problem gettin all of the dirt off
jlandbl 04-18-2007, 11:28 AM I use EagleOne Wipe & Shine on my tail pipes 2-3 times per week. Just spray and wipe (including inside) with a terry cloth towell. Takes about 1 minute per application. Pipes are always shining.
In addition, when I wax my rims every 2 months or so, I also hit the pipes. I use EagleOne Nano Wax.

Mothers aluminum polish takes all the black right off with a few hand swipes.
LOVEZ_IT_SRT8 05-15-2009, 07:58 PM what about the rims? are guys saying that the mothers PB is the best because I can't seem to get the rims as clean as well as i would like too.
Tcnj80 05-19-2009, 09:20 PM Neverdull in the silver can and forgetaboutit!
hoseclamp 05-19-2009, 09:22 PM I've got a powerball just for the tips, the smaller one so it fits between the 4" corsa tips, works well!
squigmang 05-20-2009, 07:10 AM holey crap this one was brought out of the archives!!
Harrison@Stage6 05-20-2009, 07:25 AM Tips wise I use Turtle Wax Chrome Polish. That stuff is fantastic. I clean my tips once/week. If I let them go for a few weeks they are just super gnarley on the inside lip. The stuff breaks it down pretty quick after a few rubs.
And yes, this was SERIOUSLY brought back from the dead.
I use the Mother's powerball to clean the inside surfaces. For the outside, I use a rag and Flitz metal polish.
stanfna 01-24-2011, 08:13 AM thought i would bring up an old topic! I have a quick question...i use NEV-R DULL to clean my exhaust tips. works great! my question is....is it safe to use this stuff every time I wash the beast? say once a month or more? can it damage the finish on the tips?
Thanks!
AZDEUCE 01-24-2011, 08:25 AM Well guys old school, use 0000 steel wool on the outside of the pipes, cheap, easy, and will get rid of those baked on tar balls in a couple of rubs....done
TillSRT8 01-24-2011, 09:01 AM i use it every time im done washing the car. and if its nice weather shes getting washed sometimes twice a week. the tips are were still flawless. i wouldnt go to town with it if your using it that much but the more you use it the less of it youll really need.
when i picked up my used corsa, the grime was tough looking. grabbed a piece of the nevrdull cotton and skim coat it then micro rag and it was brand new again.

CentralTexHemi 01-24-2011, 04:14 PM Easiest way to clean them is with.....SOS pads, yes SOS pads they will not scratch the chrome, dry them and follow up with some white diamond polish...http://www.whitediamondamerica.com/Default.asp.
centxsrt8 02-04-2011, 02:03 PM I was taught a trick by a friend that used to work at a used car lot. Spray on diet coke and wipe down/scrub with balled up aluminum foil.
Sounds crazy I know but he swears by it and so far for me it has worked like a charm!!
The aluminum foil is strong enough to get everything off but not strong enough to scratch chrome.
The diet coke just breaks down all the grime. Crazy that some people drink that stuff.

A quick question about the PB on the rims. Do you wash the rims off at all before you use the powerballs, or do you just go at the dirty rim with the balls?

LMFAO that is awesome:D I use a smaller power ball to do the tips, good blob of polish and it cleans out the tips great.
hoseclamp 02-11-2011, 07:29 PM Geez the thread is so old I even posted in it back in '09 and didn't remember.
raysrt8 02-26-2011, 03:22 PM Just bought the nevr dull , it is amazing stuff for cleaning up the tailpipes , would recommend to anybody.
nighthawk306 03-01-2011, 06:47 AM bluemagic metal polishing cream...about $7 for a couple OZ but its great. hardly use anything at all...got the LARGE powerball in a highpowered drill, with a quarter size amount of the stuff and went to town...got it gleaming except for a couple of those black spots. just took my nail and scratched it off.
nothing like an almost4.5 year old thread on cleaning tips :D
Muellge 03-02-2011, 05:45 AM wd 40.....
bjoeaull 03-03-2011, 08:48 PM I use never dull for the tail pipes. works killer.
never dull is the ****, but be careful, test a spot first. Works awesome at removing residue on metals like exhaust tips or nonclearcoated metal rims
silverbullet 03-07-2011, 01:34 AM Never dull is amazing BUT dont put too much pressure on it. It will scratch chrome.
kokanee13 03-07-2011, 09:34 AM I challenge you guys. I tried NeverDull. Didn't work. I haven't cleaned my pipes for like a year, so the carbon build up is too much for the neverdull, or turtle chrome polish. Any other ideas before I use sandpaper! or buy new tips.
kokanee13 03-10-2011, 07:09 PM No ideas.............
FeelTheSteel 04-07-2011, 05:44 PM Kokanee I'm in the same boat. Used NeverDull on the inside of the pipes with some bronze wool, worked great. The outside of the tips are a different story. The wool ended up putting small scratch marks in the tips and now they have a steady haze to em. I'm thinkin new tips is the way to go. I have the Corsa/Mopar setup....
