Any advice or things I need to know first?

I bought the Mobile 1 (0W 40) oil and the Mobil 1 filter.

Any and all advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil

Nope, nothing real hard. It took me a few seconds to find the oil filter the first time (it's on the front of the motor), but other than that it's easy.

Make sure to let it drain for at least 20 minutes to make sure you get as much oil out as possible.:)

also change to mobil 15w-50 if you are in warmer weather.

15 minuts tops, it will take longer for you to wait to get all the old oil out.

Removal / Replacement of the oil filter, how difficult is it access wise?

Why go to a heavier oil? It doesn't get that hot.

I just saw 3000 roll over on my way to work this morning. I'm kind of lazy though, that means a trip to the dealer this afternoon.

The hardest thing about my first oil change...(last weekend)...was getting the stock filter off. That damn thing was so freakin' tight, I mangled it getting it loosened...

I went with the Mobil 1 oil filter and the 15W-50 synthetic oil.

Not sure if you have a lift. But if you don't, I highly recommend low profile Rhino ramps. They work perfect with the low front fascia.

I also had to mangle the Mopar filter to remove. I now use K&N oil filters because they include the built in nut so you can use a conventional wrench to remove it.

Also, see this thread for a picure of the oil filter location and spill diverter.

Well if you do it yourself you save yourself $77 (less the cost of oil and filters of course). I wouldn't have the first clue on what to do to change the oil. But it was worth the $77 to have 10 shop guys (Dodge dealership was recommended, nearby Jeep dealership blows) circling the Jeep and pointing at things and looking inside.

My dealer charges $100 bucks to change the oil in our rig. I can do it for $45 and I know the correct amount of oil, correct grade/Mobil 1 is used. In addition, I don't need to schedule and appt. I just need 20 min in the driveway. The admiration you decribe by the shop guys is nice, but I'll pass, especially after my dealer put 1 to many quarts of oil in on my first oil change. Idiots!

Changing oil is really easy. We can probably walk you through it if you don't mind getting your hands dirty.

Wow, thanks a bunch everyone for the replies. I will do the change on Friday or Saturday. Should I remove the oil filler cap before trying to remove the stock oil filter?

Will oil come spilling out of the hole as I twist off the filter?

TIA,

Phil
