: Upcoming SRT engineer chat session..
squigmang 04-17-2007, 09:57 AM Hey Guys,
Because the engineers are looking for ideas and input for the replacement model in the upcoming chat session, I was thinkin it would be a good idea to mabey get a list together BEFORE the session. this way we can just post the list at the first, instead of everyone throwing ideas around all at once (or so there would be less confusion, people should still throw ideas out). I was thinking it may be easier for them and may have a better effect. What do you all think??
barho 04-17-2007, 10:21 AM When is the Jeep being "replaced"?
That's what I want to know.
Mango 04-17-2007, 10:24 AM The engineers don't talk about "future" models, so it's going to be pretty tough getting any information out of them.
A list of suggesstions is a great idea though.
squigmang 04-17-2007, 12:31 PM Alright well i would be looking for:
Touch screen nav
6.4L HEMI (with overdrive or drop cylinders on highway)
leather door panels (as well as more soft touch surfaces)
Xenon headlights
LED rear lights
greater color selection
thicker steering wheel
drilled / slotted rotors
Untouchable 04-17-2007, 12:47 PM Dear Santa:
1.more power (bigger motor, or f/i)
2. forged internals
3. More interior options
4. leather inserts
5. a hitch for real
6. HID
7. Adjustable traction (central lockers)
8. Adjustable suspension
9. TUNABLE
10. Overdrive Gear / more highway friendly
11. Keep up the good work. You make a mean product
jlandbl 04-17-2007, 01:57 PM -Brakes that don't squeal and dustless pads
-6 speed auto
-6 speed manual option
-Side pipes
-Spare tire solution so we have more tire choices
-Power folding mirrors
-More rear seat room
-Interior rattle reduction technology
-Interior production # badging (i.e. x# of x# produced)
-More training for dealership techs on SRT vehicles
gculver 04-17-2007, 02:15 PM While information on upcoming models would be nice, it does nothing for us 06-07 owners. WE NEED:
1) Mopar performance PCM for the 6.1L
2) Mopar short tube headers(direct replacement)for 6.1L Jeep
3) Mopar performance 6.1L camshaft
4) Mopar performance TCM
Then someone needs to asked, why has the Mopar performance division(SRT) hung us out to dry!!---- Would someone please ask this for me!!
ResumeSpeed 04-17-2007, 02:17 PM 2011 Grand Cherokee SRT8 wish list
1. Stlying - Go with a variant of the Trailhawk concept, it's one of the most popular Jeep concepts shown since the original '99 Commander concept.
2. Ride quality - This is probably the number one complaint from owners and reviewers. I would like to see some sort of advanced electronic adjustable "Road & Track" suspension in which one could switch from a "highway/road" mode to a "performance/track" mode.
3. Power - Usually reliable sources have "predicted" that the new 6.4L Hemi is a go and that it is already scheduled to go into the current gen WK in model year 2009 or 2010. We'll take it, perfect!!!!
4. Interior materials - Less plastic, the 2008 improvements are a start but it would be nice to see even more attention in this area. As far as features we are already getting the "MyGig" radio, telescoping steering column and streaming video which are all very welcome. Something that would be very desireable would be a reconfigurable cluster display with a 0-60 timer (2008 models?) and as many "performance/engineering" readouts as possible. The LX models already have this feature and it is very popular. Something to add would be a digital oil level readout as well as a transmission fluid level readout.
5. Interior, rear - We could use a couple more inches of legroom back there.
6. Interior, seats - Ventilated/cooled front seats. I understand that these are already on the table for the '08 or '09 Overland models, we'll take the feature as well.
7. Interior, climate controls - Bring back the digital readouts for the temperature.
8. Interior colors - Give us at least two choices here. I prefer the new dark slate gray coming on the '08 models, others may want something different.
9. Exterior colors - A better selection would be most welcome. For some reason there is a shortage of paint colors for most of the SRT models although some of the LX's have received some extra colors along the way. So far Jeep SRT owners have had a choice of two Blacks, two reds, a Silver and a Blue which is essentially only 4 colors over three model years.
10. Transmission - A switchable overdrive/6th gear for highway cruising. Also, more tension or adjustable tension for the shift lever. Many owners often unintentionally bump the lever into the manual mode.
11. Adjustable front lower air dam - A powered version would be awesome, allowing it to be raised an extra inch or two at the touch of a button, to avoid the ever-so-common scrapes.
12. Undefeatable factory wheel locks - Or some type of advanced wheel lock system. A locking steel center cap that covered all of the lugs is one idea I don't think anyone has come up with yet.
13. Hood lamp - Look, most of us would be glad to pay the $10 or so that it would cost for this convenient feature. Jeep used to have them but the bean counters nixed them. Give us a couple of small LED lamps that will illuminate the entire engine bay so at night we can show off that beautiful 510-hp 6.4L Hemi.
14. Rear liftgate aerodynamics - A design that won't attract every single bit of road dust and debri like the current model does.
15. Power liftgate - Already on the Commander and scheduled for the current WK, make it an option on the SRT8.
16. Rear fog lamps - Give us the stalk control and wiring to make these work so we don't have to wire them up outselves.
17. Mirrors, power folding - A great feature that has always been on export models, and more recently on Jeep Overland models.
18. Sills, door - Bring back the custom SRT8 door sill plates that were just deleted.
19. Cupholders, heated/cooled - A new option on a couple of new DCX models, add them to the list for the SRT.
20. Wiper nozzles - Get rid of the hood nozzles and put them on the wiper arm where they belong.
21. Slotted rotors - As are now available on the LX models.
22. Trailer hitch - With the 3rd model year of the WK SRT8 approaching it's amazing that we still do not have a factory hitch available.
23. Fuel tank size - Increased capacity for fuel, a 24-gallon tank would be nice.
24. Aftermarket performance parts - One of the main complaints from owners of current generation SRT8's is the lack of aftermarket performance parts available. It would be nice to see a nice selection from Mopar available at launch rather than years later.
The following features are not on the above list because they are already scheduled for the 2008 models:
1. HID headlamps
2. MyGig touch-screen navigation radio
3. Tilt/telescoping steering column
barho 04-17-2007, 02:24 PM Folks, this is the quote from the SRT engineers:
"SRT is starting to put together ideas for the replacement vehicle for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8"
And this:
"So this is your chance - When the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is replaced -
what would you want in the new vehicle?"
From these quotes it sounds to me like they are looking for our input on which DCX vehicle they should use instead of the Jeep. Meaning......they are no longer planning on using the Jeep GC platform as an SRT vehicle sometime in the not to distant future.
Sounds to me they want input like...."I think the Sebring would be cool in the SRT lineup"...or......."the Nitro would be pretty sweet". How is everyone missing this??????? Here is the link:

I don't know.........maybe I am reading into this too much??????
GodfatherSRT8 04-17-2007, 02:28 PM I hope that is not the situation here. I was looking forward to buying the 6.4 SRT.

User friendly programmable electronics (PCM, TCM , Rear Axle, etc). As far as warranty goes, have sealed units that will record our changes for potential warranty issues. Most of us are voiding different sections of our warranty now anyway.
Drilled / slotted rotors
A nicer leather interior.
Is a fan mod pushing things?http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif
A drive line good to about 650 rwh...ok how about 750rwh. Some nut may put a supercharger or turbo on whatever is produced. LOLBill
squigmang 04-17-2007, 02:33 PM That looks great ResumeSpeed!! Thanks!
barho 04-17-2007, 02:35 PM If that's the case then I have nothing to say.
Like I said, I may be reading too much into their post, but it doesn't sound good to me, that's for sure.
Either way, someone needs to have them clarify this come the next session.
Razorecko 04-17-2007, 02:41 PM sounds like it will get the axe -wonder why ? the big time environmental issues going on - we have like the 1 available gas guzzler and that gives bad image to dc. C'mon people do you think dc will slap on a 500hp 6.4L into a Jeep AWD format which would get us like 5mpg ? nah dont think that will happen.:(
gculver 04-17-2007, 02:46 PM This is what I have to say, were gettin our a$$ kicked right now by $25,000 Neons SRT4's. I what them to step up to plate and do something about it, now---Not in the year 2008 to 2011... That's the way I feel about it.
ResumeSpeed 04-17-2007, 02:54 PM ... How is everyone missing this??????? ...maybe I am reading into this too much??????
You're reading it all wrong. A "Nitro" or other model would not be a "replacement for the Grand Cherokee". If that were the case they would have stated "We are looking for suggestions for new vehicles to add to the SRT lineup". They are clearly referring to the next generation Grand Cherokee SRT8.
ResumeSpeed 04-17-2007, 02:55 PM sounds like it will get the axe -wonder why?...(
Huh?? IF it were "getting the ax" would they be asking about ideas for the next gen model???????
ResumeSpeed 04-17-2007, 02:56 PM ...were gettin our a$$ kicked right now by $25,000 Neons SRT4's...

I don't doubt you, and you're probably correct, but I think it should be pointed out that this question was posted on the general SRT forums, and not here. So, I ask, why would they post such a question to all SRT owners and not just to us?
Like I said, I may be reading into what they posted, and hope that is the case. Just hope someone clarifies it, that's all.
gculver 04-17-2007, 03:14 PM C'mon, you gotta be kidding....
Base $20,995-- 13.9@103 mph, + $3,000 to $5,000 in mods in the right places(many to choose from) ---your gettin your a$$ kicked. No, I was not kiddin!!

So what are these SRT4's running with the 3-5k in mods? Are they beating STOCK Grand Cherokees 0-60? Are they beating modded Grand Cherokees in the quarter mile?

The question they posted is directed at the sessions for tomorrow on THIS forum, and the question specifically mentions the Grand Cherokee.

The point is, we have very little when it comes to 6.1 L Mopar perfomance parts, period! and it's about 15k cheaper with an SRT4.(although I would not own one) Hmm!- I think I'll buy two more SRT products @ 40k each!
PsychoSRT8 04-17-2007, 04:42 PM how about a bigger gas tank? i'm not complaining about mpg but only getting 200 miles per fill up is a pain in the a**
ResumeSpeed 04-17-2007, 04:46 PM how about a bigger gas tank? i'm not complaining about mpg but only getting 200 miles per fill up is a pain in the a**
Great suggestion, I forgot all about that, will add it to the list.
shodanusmc 04-17-2007, 04:57 PM Eliminate the base coat, and just go with clear over the primer. It will reduce paint blems, as well as an important weight reduction.
1. 6/7/or 8 spd tranny in congunction w/lower gears (~3.91? w/LS), also an electronic mode that could be switched from performance/"sport"(much harder slamming of gears like the old school reworked trannies) to normal/"sissy"(like a sane person would drive)
2.) Theres no replacement for displacement. We keep talking about 6.4L, give me 7L or make it 7.2L, etc.
3.) Bigger sway bars.
4.) Mopar Performance products that are available at the same time the vehicle is launched.
5.) Softer interior that is more unique than the other GC's, & a big 'ol pistol grip shifter.
6.) Splash guards that fit & look sporty. (I drive in the snow, etc. quit laughing)
PsychoSRT8 04-17-2007, 05:12 PM yeah a 24 tank would be great
pjvreede 04-17-2007, 06:31 PM sounds like it will get the axe -wonder why ? the big time environmental issues going on - we have like the 1 available gas guzzler and that gives bad image to dc. C'mon people do you think dc will slap on a 500hp 6.4L into a Jeep AWD format which would get us like 5mpg ? nah dont think that will happen.:(
I totally disagree with the above statement: Let's be smart about this: Let's see; a 6.1 L Hemi that runs pig-rich in the A/F department and hot as "hell". (good for emisions, lousy for mileage). Time for an aluminum block, higher compression ratio, and direct fuel injection (stronger internal parts for the engine would be appreciated as well, and let's not forget the drivetrain). Let's think about rpm/fuel mileage at interstate/crusing speeds: how about the 7 speed automatic that already exists in the DCX line-up? Another area for improvement: Our vehicle is affectionally refered to as the "brick". How about some better aerodynamics? Doesn't look too bad from the exterior, but the underbody (and particularly the rear bumper) is like a HUGE blockade to smooth underbody air flow (no big deal with 0-60 sprints, but likely very important in 1/4 mile track runs and highway speeds). I'd dump the central exhaust tips, incorpoarate a serious tow option (a huge disapointment for those of use who bought the GCSRT8 early on with that promise that has NEVER materialized (the excuses on the "SRT chats" over the past year have become pathetic at best).
Incoporate that well-established technology outlined above, and you'll get a more efficient truck along with substantially greater power! Will it cost more, sure, but not nearly as much as the aftermarket. Hell, you can by a VW Rabbit with all but the 7 speed automatic (their 6 speedDSG is every bit as good, b.t.w) for $25 grand! We've got a great vehicle, BUT, there is SO much room for improvement without too much associated cost. Think about it, the brand new Audi TT coming out soon has a higher performance 3.2 L engine option that produces 300hp at a lower price then our truck (300hp from 3.2 liters, and with torque to boot (unlike the Honda S2000)). Even VW/Audi's current run of the mill 3.2 L produces 250 hp with torque. Imagine if that technology was in our 6.1 L Hemi?? Time for DCX to get their domestic line-up out of the dark ages if they want to compete in the future. The "global" competition is getting serious, and those that don't see it will be left in the dust.
As for the interior suggestions, I agree with the prior suggestions. It just doesnt cost DCX that much to make make the interior upgrades that helps it compete with the global market. As an example, how much did it save DCX per GCSRT8 to get rid of the aluminum SRT8 sill plates? Obviously their customer base is NOT happy about it. It seems kind of foolish to me to eliminate features that help sell your best-selling GC to save a few cents (kind of like raising the cost of the vehicle (or for that matter eliminating content of the vehicle) just so that you don't have deal with cutting the non-productive costs associated with building the most desired product in the GC line-up). It's kind of like raising federal taxes so that you don't have to curtail federal spending on wasteful/government mandated "projects".).
OK, almost done with this rant. All I can say is: DCX; pick your poison, and the market will respsond acordingly. Many of us with GCSRT8's also have owned or currently own Mercedes AMG and BMW's. Don't think we'lll stay will the GCSRT8 if it doesn't continue to compete with the market, not to mention the value that it represented when it was introduced in 2005!
barho 04-17-2007, 07:41 PM The question they posted is directed at the sessions for tomorrow on THIS forum, and the question specifically mentions the Grand Cherokee.
Once again, I don't doubt you are wrong, BUT I will post the exact quote here and make a few highlights:

Once again, it would be nice to get some clarification, as many who have read the above quote from the SRT Engineers seem to be reading the same as I am.
Resume - Why is it so difficult for you to believe that they may be thinking of dumping it in a year or two??? How long was the Ram SRT 10 around for????
Jerod 04-17-2007, 08:14 PM If they are dumping the Jeep SRT8 then I really don't know what to say... I was waiting because I was hoping to pick up one with the 6.4L in it. They could also just drop the SRT8 Jeep and make it a SRT10 Jeep :)
Untouchable 04-17-2007, 08:36 PM i would not be surprised if it got the axe, BUT I would love mine that much more.
This car, this Jeep srt8 represents everything that the "Green" movement is against.
remember the big block chevys and fords (7.4,7.5, 7.6, 8.1, 8.3, 6.8v10). these all went away in the trucks b/c the comparable diesel knocked it out of the water.
the jeep is AWD, and so it should be, the other srt8 are 2wd and mpg follows. I think that politiics and the image of DCX would threaten this "anomaly" of a vehicle that we have. MB has better gearing in its ml63 so that it doesnt take the hit on the HWY.
Bottom line, the Jeep simply represents the pinnacle of the age of excess, and to further exist would have to be reworked in a major way.
Man I love this truck

fever29 04-17-2007, 09:31 PM Ah, just enjoy want you own now! I don't think I am going to trade my 07' just because they have an overdrive, touch screen navigation screen, or even a 6.4 liter engine. I enjoy modifying my own cars to my particular interests, as do many members here! I just bought an extended warranty today, I plan to drive the sh...t out of my Jeep and enjoy every bit of it. I don't care if it is worth 4K when I done, the fun factor will be well worth it!
I commend the SRT team to even ask what possilbly could make there product better. Every consideration here in this post will be noted but ultimately it is not up to them on what the "new" product line will be. Atleast they respond to the forum member's concerns and hopefully communciate that to the powers to be.
Right now, I do not believe there is a better stock SUV to buy than the SRT-8. Have fun, I am!:)

Fact of the matter is, Chrysler is being SOLD!! So any "inside" info he may have, if you ask me, may be outside info in the not so distant future when the soon to be owners start dumping vehicles and employees.
I know all about his "inside" info. I've been here for quite some time!
And let me clarify, once again. I WANT THE GC TO CONTINUE TO BE BUILT!!! So please, don't jump all over me, just trying to get some clarification.

Surely, at this point no one can predict the future for Chrysler or Jeep. For future products I'm sure it will come down to which vehicles are money makers and which vehicles are not.
At this time, it is helpful to give the Engineers our input. Time will tell if someday they pull the plug or not on the Jeep.

Shoot him a pm or ask him to forward a question for you on the chat tonight. They respond to any of his questions vs. the rest of us. Not a bad thing once we figure out the system!

ps..I am with you on the lack of Mopar performance parts for the JGC vs. the Viper for example. Its not as though they would lose any money on the aftermarket parts.
john schillaci 04-18-2007, 10:42 AM How about a door stop that works maybe a 2 position, I am kinda tired of my leg getting bruised. John
9900rpm 04-18-2007, 12:16 PM So what are these SRT4's running with the 3-5k in mods? Are they beating STOCK Grand Cherokees 0-60? Are they beating modded Grand Cherokees in the quarter mile?
I've had a bunch of SRT4's. $3K to $5K into an SRT4, just about any way you do it, will be running deep in the 11's, in the mid 11Xmph to low 120mph range in the 1/4 mile, top speed will be up with the Jeep, if not more.
Also, if they came out with a 6MT for the GCSRT8, I'd trade up in a heart beat. Not a fan of automatic transmissions, at all.

Thanks, I Knew not long ago I was seeing mid-11's from modded ones! Your post makes my point all the more obvious. We have been hung out to dry, when it comes to Mopar Performance parts!
ResumeSpeed 04-18-2007, 01:14 PM ...I don't care what "inside" info he has!!! Someone else always has better "inside" info...
Hmmm, wonder where some of them get their info? :D
... Fact of the matter is, Chrysler is being SOLD!!
Fact of the matter is that it is being offered for sale, a big difference. I'm not saying that it won't be sold, just that it could be (pick one) weeks, months or years.
...So any "inside" info he may have, if you ask me, may be outside info in the not so distant future when the soon to be owners start dumping vehicles and employees...
Who's to say that the "new owners", if and when that happens, won't embrace the SRT division and expand it even further? It's not like SRT is losing money, they are not. In addition, if Chrysler is sold it's going to take quite a bit of time for the deal to be finalized, not to mention the fact that vehicles cannot just be instantly "cancelled", lots of long-term labor and materials contracts are in place that would also take various amounts of time to change.
Roman371 04-18-2007, 04:51 PM Hey Guys,
Because the engineers are looking for ideas and input for the replacement model in the upcoming chat session, I was thinkin it would be a good idea to mabey get a list together BEFORE the session. this way we can just post the list at the first, instead of everyone throwing ideas around all at once (or so there would be less confusion, people should still throw ideas out). I was thinking it may be easier for them and may have a better effect. What do you all think??
Very good list, thanks
squigmang 04-18-2007, 06:16 PM seemed to work great guys, good job
iseedipp 06-03-2007, 07:37 PM sorry to bring back a dead thread i guess but i'd like to a see an integrated antenna, projector hids, also the ability to switch from rwd to awd would be awesome and for them to relocate the locks so i can put my arm out the window comfortably. Just little things.
