Has anyone noticed when you floor the throttle at 20-30mph it speeds up but doesn't seem to downshift or push you back in the seat?
Help! My wife's 4cyl Camry seems to have more giddy-up!

Yours must be an 07, - many 07's have this problem and there seems to be no fix in sight for it anytime soon. Its a kickdown issue -where you will nail the throttle and instead of kicking down to the lower gear it will just slowly rise up through the current gear. And as you said it always occurs between 20-30mph/2-3k, hopefully soon there will be a fix out for it but in the meantime, you are not the only one expierancing this frustrating issue.

You really notice this on the track. My Jeep would fight me about which gear it wanted to be in .... mostly refusing to downshift. You can hear me slapping the **** out of the stick trying to get it to downshift. :D

Take it to your dealer, explain the issue and ask for TSB #21-020-06 to be done. It's a reflash of the transmission control module that fixes that problem and a few others associated with the autostick mode. You'll love the change. Most of us have. Some have sworn it made their GCs a tad faster.

Yeah, I feel sorry for you '07 guys that SRT is not fixing this. The only advice I can give is to manually downshift.

Yea i'm already having gremlins with mine, and also looking from the change in tail lights hardware from 06 - 07 you can see that they cut a few corners on the 07 that we probally dont even know about.

My NEW TCM ('07) just arrived "AG" release.
It will be installed on Thursday along with a new PCM, I'll post when I get the beast back, probably Friday.

If you notice better function from the updated hardware than we will all definitly have to ***** at DC to make a TSB for the most current software. :D ...just like for the brakes.

Okay, I now have about 5500 miles on my 06 and approaching one year warranty cutoff. (Yeah, I baby it and only take it out on the good days, etc.) I Have been reading the pros and some cons RE: TCM reflash and undecided if I should have it done. I have not noticed a delay with 1-2 shift but the non shift in E-stick mode and no kick down in 20 to 30 mph range is an irritant. Otherwise, shifting is great, gas mileage 14 - 15 and aside from a slight wining in the driveline, no problems. (By the way, I owned a 5.9 Limited that required double replacements for both front and rear differentials under warranty before it was fixed, so I know that driveline whine and I'm concerned) Also, have not experienced any brake squeal. Maybe I'm not driving this thing hard enough.

Question is: does anyone who had the TSB done now wish they had not done it?

Some say they aren't happy due to the fact that the 1-2 shift now occurs around 5800 rpms rather than 6100. I think that was a small price to pay to:

1. get rid of the shift hesitation that held me back more than the earlier shift point; and
2. being able to use auto stick. before it was almost impossible to use due to the fact that you had to time it perfectly to get it to shift at redline (there is a delay between when you shift and when the transmission shifts). This also sucked during down shifting.

As far as I am concerned, I am happy I had it done.

I'm one who loved the TSB! Does exactly as stated by Houston.

I have an 06 and the only tranny problem I have is the no downshift around 20-30 mph when you step on it. Will the TSB fix that?

My 07 has the same issue and it is very annoying. Almost like power retardation in traction control-- no downshift when you both need and expect it. I hope SRT guys come up wiht a fix.--Bob

I hate to dig up an old thread but I can't find any newer threads that touch on this exact subject. Has there been any fix or solution to this problem (2-1 downshift only happening at really low speeds)?? It seems even a CMR tune cannot fix this :( I have a 07 so 21-020-06 won't apply to my truck.

I started this thread and still have the same problem even after the "flash job" by the dealer. My conclusion is these things are just SLUGS when it comes to a running start. :boohoo:

I just got my 07 SRT8 yesterday and already noticed this. My old Trailblazer SS was the exact opposite. It would violently downshift into first and go like stink around 20-30. I hope this is fixable in the future because it totally sucks!
