: Steering Question
snoball 02-06-2010, 09:10 AM Does anyone have problems with torque steer? I have an 06 GCSRT with 15k miles. (stock run flat tires) Just got it a couple weeks ago. Under hard acceleration it wants to wander kinda like a high horsepower front wheel drive car. I have also felt it want to track at low speeds. Granted, we have some pretty crappy roads here in Southern Ohio. Most of our 2 lane roads have slight tire ruts due to the high number of overloaded semi trucks in the area. (no weigh stations nearby) However, other vehicle I have including my Mustang with 275's on the front does not track as bad... I think I will have the alignment checked soon.
I guess my question is: Do I have an issue or is this just the nature of the beast?

Yeah we all have this same problem, but as soon as I installed my Eibach Springs that all went away. So now my Jeep feels like its on rails and is more controlled. So go out and get some Eibachs as I can't speak for the Bwoodys.

I bought my '06 middle of December and noticed the same thing. My Lightning buddies looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned "torque steer".... Glad I'm not the only one that has it
snoball 02-08-2010, 11:02 PM I just got home from playing in the SRT. Had to make a run to Wally-world for the wife a new hair-dryer. So, to redeem my manhood I went out and beat the hell out of the Jeep for a while! LOL! I picked up my dad and took him along for the ride. He's nearly 60, but he still enjoys a good thrill ride. (at least he was cool enough to buy some beer @ Wally-world!)
Anyway, I notice that the road makes a huge difference on the torque steer. I launched it from dig on a nice smooth 4 lane and it didn't torque steer at all. Then I did it on a 2 lane, that's a state highway, but has a lot of heavy truck traffic and it was all over the place...
Knuckles,
how much do the Eibachs lower it? My wife drives it a lot and I can see parking blocks and the front bumper not getting along to well if it lowers it too much. Yours doesn't look too low.
SLVRLTNG,
How does your Lightning run compared to your Jeep? My buddy and I are building an 04 Lightning right now. It was wrecked and he picked it up cheap. He is doing the body work on it and I'm doing the performance mods. Pulley, tuner, inductions, ported supercharger, headers, and exhaust. Should run pretty good I would think...

Yeah you feel this torque steer on certain roads when your Jeep is stock. Now I can drive it on any road and it will be fine. The Eibachs lower your Jeep 1" on the front and 1.1" on the rear. Also even when you are stock you have to becareful with these Jeeps as they are kind of low to begin with. So with the drop your wife will have to be a little more cautious of where she parks the Jeep.

I've only had the Jeep for 2 months now but the butt dyno feels like the Jeep has more torque low down. Could be the AWD.. Haven't had the Jeep at the track yet but my truck with just the Whipple, SBTB, 4lb pulley and a SCT tune is running mid 12's. Stock injectors, fuel pumps and long block...
good luck with the build :bigthumb:
