Aight home slices...

I have this yankjob "buddy" that claims the use of a clay bar on another buddy's car totally screwed the paint. I saw the guy's car, it was dunskies, but Im having a hard time believing it was due to clay bar. I have never used one??

So my question is, on an '08 S.B., is there any danger in a clay bar to harm the look of the paint?? Can you misuse it somehow for undesired effects?

I'm a bit of a detail fanatic but never have believed in the clay bar until seeing you guys' good dealings with it?

You can in fact hurt the clear by using the clay bar if you dont stop after doing a section and kneed (ball up) the clay bar, this pulls the contaminants off the outside and into the center of the clay. If you dont do that your going to scratch it bad but this rarely happens if you follow the directions.

If used properly there should be no problem. Keep the clay clean and the surface well lubricated with a water/soap solution(I use a spray bottle). Also don't do a huge area at once.

You can jack it by using a really hard clay bar too. I like the Gloss It Green. Nice and soft and does the trick.

and if they didnt keep the area WET when applyng the clay to the surface it may also leave some blemishes and minor damage.. just realized SLVRLTNG said this already

but i really dont see how you can fck up a car when using a clay bar.. its so simple to use and they work great

Agree with the comments given already; in addition a clay bar must NEVER be dropped on the ground and picked up and re-used; you're almost guaranteed that it will have picked up some dirt that will damage the paint.

Bottom line is if you follow all the instructions to a T you'll be fine and get great results; if not it is certainly possible to damage the paint.
