I have an 08 jeep srt8 my windshield just cracked bad all across the windshield.

mastercraft had just done a chip repair on it 3 weeks ago and one of the chips caused the whole crack. im looking for how much a windshield replacement usually costs.

the technician had told me it was guarenteed and if it cracked i'd get a free windshield the company now tells me thats only if it cracks when there working on it... and they'll discount a new one yea thanks... not.

Anyways looking for a ballpark estimate on a windshield replacement thanks

I guess you don't have glass coverage on your auto insurance? When my windshield cracked on my Magnum Safelite came to my house and replaced it no charge. It's worth having.

The cool thing here is that since 3 weeks prior you got chip fixed, that place should guarantee the work! Go get them to replace if free of charge. Should have been in their policy, otherwise, I would have never worked with them lol. Just my .02

Between 400 and 600, irrc. make sure they get the rubber seal that goes between the glass and roof that must be installed while the windshield is out/removed. Usually comes or can be ordered with the replacement. It may be cheaper if you get one that doesn't have the black border, not sure, its been a while.

This was just recently discussed - see link:

FWIW I paid $225 installed, rain sensor lens and all, in Houston.

Carter Hartwig, owner of Hartwig Glass, Sugarland, did it for me in my driveway. Not sure how big a service area he has and whether he'll travel out to other parts of Houston much beyond the SW sector. FWIW he's done 3 windshields for me over the years (different cars) and I'll always go to him as long as he's in the business.

BUMPING UP an old thread for anyone in need of a windshield.

I just replaced mine...

Muellge, I actually didn't have that rubber seal on my original windshield. I always wondered why there was a gap there. I was searching for something completely different and came across this thread. I recently replaced my windshield earlier this week, a non oem glass, and haven't had a problem.
Rain sesnor works fine as well.

(Maybe my windshield was replaced when the car was new at the dealer and they didn't put that rubber piece on??)

There is no molding/weatherstrip at the top of the glass on mine either.....not brand new and not now (had a new windshield installed last year).

You would think one would go there though...

Maybe it was an 06-07 thing??

I think I remember reading that it was one of the cost cutting type things that they did.

Like the underhood headlamp covers that came on 06s.

I need a new windshield badly. Mine's all pitted up. I have to say..... for 80K miles, the front glass sure sucks. It was all pitted when I bought it with 20K on it. The previous owner drove all highway miles. I keep hoping to God for a rock to hit it. In Florida, our insurance companies automatcially have to fix the front windshield. Driving into the sun sucks big time.

Go get it done. Nothing beats new glass!! haha.
They wanted $475ish for an OEM with install; my deductible is $500, so it was coming out of my pocket. Went with an aftermarket, and was a total of $269 installed.

The crack around the whole windshield, it is actually a near perfect circle. (Best picture I could get to show it)

yea the strip at the top was an 06 thing. i think it came on the early 07 jeeps that were built in 06, because my first 07 didnt have it, and my current jeep doesnt have it either, they were built a few days apart in 07.
