I went to look at brakes at r 1 concepts and a little confused. They have metallic pads, semi metallic, extended wear. As for rotors they have cross drilled, slotted, and premium slotted and cross drilled what is better?

i heard some bad stories about drilled rotors, nothing specific for r1, soooooo......

so i bought dimpled and slotted from R1 FTMFW!

Those stories are true. Drilled rotors have a tendency to crack when they get too hot. It is usually due the the rotors being drilled after they have been treated. You definitely went the right way with yours. Looks good.

Wow! Didn't even know that "dimpled" was an option. Looks great. Have you had any problems with rust?

there is a little showing up in the dimples. doesnt look bad but I will take care of it.
I was in a rush the day i installed them,,,,,

I got some 900 degree paint and will give them a quick going over. but in the past my experience is that eventually brake dust will fill those dimples in enough to hide the rust.

That is sweet I knew ebc had dimpled and that is why I was torn between the two. Now I will buy these!

I got slotted only (R1`s). And I am happy with them. They look pretty cool also

I have heard about a case where a r1 rotor cracked over a drilled hole.... So I avoided it.

The drilled and slotted ones look the best tho

Nice! I had no idea that R1 had dimpled rotors. I was really on the fence about getting the R1 or the EBO sloted and dimpled because I have heard the same thing about cracks. It seems that the EBC is significantly more than the R1 but they come painted black so the rust thing is not an issue... I ahve to pull the trigger soon because my brakes dirve me crazy!

can of high temp paint is like 10-15 bux.

+1 on the discussion about drilled... You can chamfer the outer sides of the rotor holes to reduce the stress riser that the hole creates, but you can not chamfer the 'inside' face of the rotor where the vents are... that is likely where the crack propegation would start. And they will eventually crack.

For all out racing... drilled is fine because you rebuild the car after each race (Porsche even has a spec in the regular 911 street car manual for how long cracks can be before replacing the rotor... )

For the rest of us, dimpled and slotted works best. Very happy with them and definitely better than OEM performance.

On the brake pads:: went with R1's 'ceramic' HPS Hawk pads. (yes their most expensive pads...) Installed them with plenty of grease in the right spots, bedded them in properly, and not one squeal from the back over the last few weeks... Work great and super low dust.

I figured the stock Brembos were best. I mean most surface area = best stopping power. All in all no fade, I mean stockers are excellent!

Only thing to better it would be more surface area aka bigger rotors and some bigger calipers, maybe 6 piston? Cant believe they put some 4s on this thing. Now the Cayenne Turbo has some serious breaks! But thats all its got over us ;)
