I would like to pull some info. I was going to go with the 170*, but i want to find out how many people get CEL's with the 170. So post the following info:

Model Year Jeep:?
Brand of Tstat:?
Degree:?
CEL:?

I went with a Stant 170*.

The CEL came on initially, but I burped the system, and re-topped off and
it has been fine for the past 5 days.

Runs a lot cooler on the gauge.

goodluck.

use a stant 195, have had no problems with it. still get the high temps after slowing down or hot dogging, but I might just go with a 180

which 180 do you guys use

I used the Valucraft p/n 4128 from autozone. Works great and no CEL.

So far we are 1 for 1 on the CEL with the 170*. Great response so far. I appreciate it.

Same here Valuecraft 4128. Works perfectly after the intial burp.

....on mine, after I burped and topped off with fluid, and disconnected
battery. No CEL what-so-ever. 170* just needed to clarify.

If you are worried about it at all, just get the 180*, it seems to work
perfect for everybody.

Not trying to offend anybody, but if you are concerned enough about it to
take the time to pay for and install a t-stat, what is the point going from
203* down to a 195*?????????

Goodluck.

These things love the colder temps!

cool. I am leaning on the 170. I just hate CEL's and if you say i can make the 170 work, thats what i am gonna go with.

The little advantage the 170 gives over the 180 isn't worth the headache, IMO.

There really isn't much difference in temp between the 170 and 180. The 170 is really a 176 degree stat!. I've used both, the temp on the gauge is barely higher with the 180, but NO MORE CEL's. It's a no brainer for me. You can have my 170 degree is you really want it.

All,

I am going to do this mod and just want to confirm (and I think I saw this in another thread) that the 4128 is the same size as the stocker and does NOT need to be ground down to fit. Please confirm.

Thanks.

Nope. The 4128 is 0.5 mm wider, and thus needs to be ground down (takes 30 seconds with a grinder or a sander).

This was the thread I was referring to that stated the 180 did NOT need a grind but the 170 did. Thanks.

I had to grind mine (Valuecraft 4128 bought at Autozone), but no big deal either way.

Autozone 4128 on 2007 Jeep - had to grind. I have the Sears upright belt sander, so 30 seconds and it fit great.

Been on for a week and no CEL's. Dashhawk confirms it's a good mod.

Exactly the same experience for me as stated above with an 01/06-build Jeep.

That one is actually a Motorad (4128) in a Valuecraft box. And the grinder took me a minute or so no big deal perfect fit.
