So here I am less than a week into my new Jeep. Love the vehicle and everything about it. Now the bad news...I hear this rubbing sound whenever I turn off the ESP and then the brakes start to squeal. So I take it to local dealership and have them give it the once over. Well I personally know the mechanic and he calls me back with some really bad news. Whoever had the Jeep before me put aftermarket crap shoes on the brakes, turned the rotors so that he cannot even begin to attempt to turn them again. Under the hood he notcies that the front clips holding the air intake housing are broken so that will need to be replaced also. All in all I am looking at almost $1700 to fix everything. Cue the climatic music...
On the test drive I never noticed any of this. Now dont get me wrong I am no Mr. Goodwrench but I went over the vehicle as best I could. I have contacted the dealership where I purchased the Jeep and have not heard from them. Somehow I dont beleive I will. On a side note my friend told me there is a k40 radar detector/jammer installed but he could not find out how to power it on. He also says the ESP noise is known by Chrysler and that its good and that I wont have any problems. Is this true?
Ugggh my bank account doesnt like me right now...
************UPDATE**************
After talking to a friend yesterday who runs a Tuffy shop here local, he tells me to hold off on the order. I have already given the dealership $1000 down to begin the order. I call them and place order on hold saying I wanted to see about some aftermarket rotors (R1's) and I would call when ready. Spoke with the dealer that I purchased the Jeep from and he sends over service work order showing everything that was completed and inspected and nothing is wrong with the brakes! So I then call my friend at the Tuffy shop and he says he can get all those parts that the dealer said I needed for under a grand! Tells me to bring the Jeep in and let him look at it. Well I take it in this afternoon and he takes all the wheels off and says I should come back in 20k miles. I do NOT need brakes or rotors or anything! Rotors have never been turned and he says Chyrsler spec says SRT rotors are NOT to be turned anyways just replaced. The POS dealership told me my rotors were turned once and shot and needed to be replaced. They were about to hose me for almost $1700.... Well a nice letter to the manager and cc'd to the BBB shall be my parting gift to these ass-hats.
