: One week of ownership and....

So here I am less than a week into my new Jeep. Love the vehicle and everything about it. Now the bad news...I hear this rubbing sound whenever I turn off the ESP and then the brakes start to squeal. So I take it to local dealership and have them give it the once over. Well I personally know the mechanic and he calls me back with some really bad news. Whoever had the Jeep before me put aftermarket crap shoes on the brakes, turned the rotors so that he cannot even begin to attempt to turn them again. Under the hood he notcies that the front clips holding the air intake housing are broken so that will need to be replaced also. All in all I am looking at almost $1700 to fix everything. Cue the climatic music...

On the test drive I never noticed any of this. Now dont get me wrong I am no Mr. Goodwrench but I went over the vehicle as best I could. I have contacted the dealership where I purchased the Jeep and have not heard from them. Somehow I dont beleive I will. On a side note my friend told me there is a k40 radar detector/jammer installed but he could not find out how to power it on. He also says the ESP noise is known by Chrysler and that its good and that I wont have any problems. Is this true?

Ugggh my bank account doesnt like me right now...

************UPDATE**************
After talking to a friend yesterday who runs a Tuffy shop here local, he tells me to hold off on the order. I have already given the dealership $1000 down to begin the order. I call them and place order on hold saying I wanted to see about some aftermarket rotors (R1's) and I would call when ready. Spoke with the dealer that I purchased the Jeep from and he sends over service work order showing everything that was completed and inspected and nothing is wrong with the brakes! So I then call my friend at the Tuffy shop and he says he can get all those parts that the dealer said I needed for under a grand! Tells me to bring the Jeep in and let him look at it. Well I take it in this afternoon and he takes all the wheels off and says I should come back in 20k miles. I do NOT need brakes or rotors or anything! Rotors have never been turned and he says Chyrsler spec says SRT rotors are NOT to be turned anyways just replaced. The POS dealership told me my rotors were turned once and shot and needed to be replaced. They were about to hose me for almost $1700.... Well a nice letter to the manager and cc'd to the BBB shall be my parting gift to these ass-hats.

under $800 for an awesome new brake set up. Get a BWoody 4" and for about half as much as quoted you get a better set up GC.... no problem/problem solved.:D

If your rotors are done get some R1's. You can get all four for ~500 I believe, they are a sponsor. Then get some new brake pads and you good. As for the airbox so many people have aftermarket ones you could probably find the broken part cheap from another member. Post up in the wanted section.

I went to R1 site and looked for an 08' application and no dice. Will the 07' application work? Thanks for the speedy response. If that will work Ill cancel dealership order.

08 and 07 brakes are the same. the esp noise is normal, its the transfer case motor that you hear.
And like BCM said, post up that you are looking for whatever part is broken and im sure someone will give you it for free, if not very cheap. also if they said you have brake shoes you should find someone else to do your work...
Dont worry, it wont cost you what they said it would.
Welcome to the fourm!!

Ok spoke with Dee at R1 and he told me the same Squig (thanks). SO the dealership was going to charge me $354 for the fronts and $197.50 for the rears. How do you all feel about R1's? Better than OEM? I love the look at of the crossdrilled and slotted and if I can get em for a better price Im all in.

I have the R1 cross drilled and slotted. I love the look. To be honest i didnt notice any difference in stopping power from stock but they were cheaper, and look a million times better. I dont regret it, nor will you. also they have free shipping i believe
For rear pads, order from tire rack and get 2006 Cadillac CTS-V pads - they wont squeal and for the fronts you can order a set from R1 with the rotors. (I have posi quiets).

I just installed R1s dimpled&slotted rotors, and they are a much nicer product than OEM. All of the surfaces are black coated (except the wear surface) so you won't have all that rust dripping into your wheels.

Point of my post: I went with R1s "Ceramic" pads for the Jeep (Hawk HPS) front and rear and have been VERY happy. Very low dust, and no squeal in the back. They'll make you a package price deal on Rotors & Pads ... Talked with Chris at R1. Probably the best street pad for the jeep IMO. (And R1's)
