hey guys......

The thermostat was cake to install.......

I intended to order a 180*, and apparently gave the store wrong part #.

I got the 170, and after some reviewing on here, I decided to install anyway.

I followed directions, and after done, idled the truck for 10 minutes, and
CEL instantly came on, I topped it back off along with collant bottle overflow.

Nothing leaking, so took it down the road to get up to temp.

ran it hard, and boy, it made a difference. It never tried to spin the tires before.

I ran it up about 4 times, and the indicated temp on the monitor system
finally went to 204*.

I turned truck off & on a few times, CEL still on.

Came back to my house and burped radiator....

....here I am, and I don't really want CEL on all the time.

Should I disconnect the battery?

any other thought?

thanks.....

You got the CEL after the tstat install? Do you have a code reader to see what CEL you have?

....no,I just got the truck Monday, it's got 700 miles on it.

I did the front scoop mod, the brake duct mod, the fam mod, and the
170* T-stat.

want to squeak a 13.0 tomorrow, if at all possible??????????????

If I disconnect the battery and turn key on, and tap the brake,
could it reset and be ok?

thanks,

Just disconnect the battery, tap the brake and reconnect the battery.

Be nice to know the CEL code it threw, I dont know any other way to clear the CEL then with a code clearer of disconnect the - battery for 5 minutes.

Same CEL code with my 170 in cold weather.....turned cold in Charlotte and got another CEL. Hooked up the Scan program on the laptop, same damn thermostat code as usual in cold weather. Next winter may change back to a 180 and possibly use a 160 at the track.

All goes back to tuning too, if we could get in there and change some ECU parameters these idiot lights would be a thing of the past.

Wow 160 it will be an animal!

....thanks guys, I will disconnect, and see what happens.....

I guess I will try a 180* next week, and I don't think the 170 will hurt it.

Inferno SRT8

It wont hurt it but the ECU doesnt like it and will keep throwing the code.

...like I said, it never tried to burn the tires, or had the TC light flash on
when I have launched it previous to the stat.

if you have some colder temps this week you may get a light. Here in FLA i have not had the CEL come on yet, due to the 170. It will also take a few key cycles to clear it. I would say leave it and it will go away.

Once it warms up and persists then ditch 170 and go 180.

Knock on wood, I still haven't had a T stat related MIL with the Valucraft 176.

Cobra...you NEED a 170 for the strip and possibly the 160 would help. This is of couse using a fan mod. Good luck the 12's should be there for you!

Tried the 170 stat this spring. Also threw CEL's on three occasions in 2 weeks. Decided to go with the 180 degree stat. No CEL's since. I should state that I did NOT grind down the rim of the 170 degree MotoRad (#4127)thermostat prior to the install, and I noticed the rubber gasket was torn up when I switched to the 180 degree stat (which I did grind down to size). Some have used the MotoRad 170 degree without CEL's, making me wonder if a slow leak around a torn-up thermostat gasket may be part of the problem with the 170 degree stat. Great mod with either stat, irrespective.

Most likely a P0116(coolant temperature performance) code, If you hate CEL's as much as I do, switch to a 180*, all should be good! :)

i have the 170 and if the temp gets 45 or below it will trip the CEL every time unless i let the engine warm up for 10 or so minutes then shift manually (never going above 3rd gear or 35 mph) until the temp gauge moves a bit above 185. then i can go to auto (D) and drive normally. if i dont let the engine warm up as fast as it can with the 170 it will trip the CEL. i reset it by disconnecting the neg battery cable, step on the brake pedal for 30 seconds, and then reconnecting the cable. this turns off the light for me. i havent gotten around to buying a 180 yet and probably will once fall and the colder temps comes back around.

edit: mine is a stant 14127

170 here also. At home in Fl., like "Fast", have never thrown a CEL...Up in GA in mts with a temp in low 40's, threw it once. Quick disconnect on negative for about a minute, no brake pedal, it went away. Next two morings, let it warm up for about 4-5 minutes before I left the cabin and it never came back.

Go figure

...never through the CEL back on, after I burped it, and reset battery?

So I am leaving as is. 12.85@104.5 1st pass ever.

Just got my DashHawk today! The code causing the CEL lights is a "P0128: Coolant Temp Thermostat". Is anyone else getting this one?

I have a 180, but I have had CEL's from day 1.

That's the first I've heard of a 180 throwing a MIL. I have over 1800 miles on my 170 (176*) and haven't triggered one.

I have a 180 that causes a cel every now and then. DashHawk is a cool toy

Why would you want to go with the CEL-inducing 170° (actually 176°) t-stat as opposed to the 180° t-stat? It can't be that big of a difference.

gculver

I have not had any CEL's due to the 180* stat.

cobrakid

.....do the 170* if you are going to do it.

Once I burped the system, and topped off.....then reset computer
never saw another CEL.

goodluck.

Mine could be related to the 180 thermostat, but I was getting CEL lights before I installed the 180 (a month ago). I think most likely this is a faulty sensor of some sort, but what and where?

It is funny because I go some days and don't get the CEL. And I seem to notice it comes on after moderate throttle pressure. If I drive it without stepping on it, I don't get the CEL.
