spitsnaugle 01-13-2010, 01:51 PM Couple quick non cherokee questions, I own a 08 caliber srt4 with the mopar stage 1.
-This one has been ran into the ground but does anyone know the final production numbers of the caliber srt4? If not is there someone who we could contact?
-Also, when switching gears and when coasting going back to accelerating,, I get a loud thunk/clunk sound, a other forum members have experienced this and just wrote it off as the clutch, is this something else? do you happen to know what is this caused by and/or what could be done to lessen it?
-and if I can squeak a third question in: Is the SRT engineering group planning on attending any events this year? ...Such as the lx and beyond nationals or SRT4 nationals?
-Thanks for taking the time to do this. We greatly appreciate it.
Viperam2 01-13-2010, 02:36 PM On the RAM SRT-10, the 2004 came with different calipers than the 2005's and 2006's. What was the reason for the change
Thanks You
icemanthrilla 01-13-2010, 02:36 PM wassup SRT!!!!
i have an 08 caliber srt4.
Some of the owners, including myself, have noticed an issue with cold starting the car.
When i first take off in cold mornings the car bucks violently and will most likely turn off. its as if i had bad clutch/throttle modulation.
after it turns off, when i restart the car the problem is gone
It has happened maybe 10 or so times to me lately.
here's a link to some of us chatting about this issue.
http://www.caliberforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16305&highlight=cold+start
do you have any insite or info you could give us that would help out with this issue?
maybe a stuck throttle??? pcm is freakin out??? spark plugs???
thanks for the help SRT a.k.a. my dream job fillers!:D
Viperam2 01-13-2010, 02:38 PM Will the 2004 RAM SRT-10, front caliper's bolt directly up to the 2005 or the 2006
Thank You
lhcfh 01-13-2010, 02:41 PM First off, I’m an owner of two SRT vehicles, and I love both cars (Caliber and Challenger). I love the level of performance detail that go into SRT vehicles. So keep up the good work guys!
First question: I like many others with manual 6 speeds in the Challenger have experienced severe wheel hop after a few miles have been put on the car that did not exist when it was new. I fully realize why the wheel hop is happening on take off in first and I can manage it by feathering the clutch/acceleration but it is still quite a challenge to do so. My bigger concern is the amount of hop I get from 1st to 2nd. Is there anything that can be done to solve this issue in regards to aftermarket or other Mopar products? Its hard to break the fast shifting habits from previous and current 6 speeds (from first to second) I have and something that I quite honestly don’t want to change. In the challenger forum we have created a poll that gives a percentage of 6 speed owners that have had this issue and I would hope the SRT engineers would please look it over when you have a chance to see the results:
http://www.challengertalk.com/forums/f79/got-hop-not-post-your-results-here-31248/
Second question, like others I have started noticing a whine from the rear end after getting wheel hop that is noticeable when decelerating from 50-60 mph. I have heard that some dealerships are getting responses from Chrysler that this is normal and not a concern. In the past this type of sound usually meant the ring and pinion was going out. I would be very grateful to hear your opinion and a course of action.
Best regards and thanks for the opportunity to ask these questions directly to the SRT engineers.
icemanthrilla 01-13-2010, 02:41 PM asking this for many of my csrt owning peers....
do u recomend using a catch can on the csrt???
some of us who have had them installed say they catch a fair amount of blow by while others say its very lil.
what is your guys' proffessional opinion on using them or not and why?
Knuckles 01-13-2010, 02:43 PM First of all I wanted to Thank you guys for taking the time to answer on questions related to the SRT line!
1. My question is have you guys looked into the vibration issue at 70 MPH? Basically I have replaced 2 wheels in the front, multiple alignments, 2 sets of front Good year Tires, 3rd set on Toyos Proxe STII's, New front rotors, 2 outer tie rods and have replaced the rear drive shaft twice now. The vibration problem still exists at 70 MPH and has improved since I have done everything but I feel that it is only a band aid fix. My jeep has been to the dealer about 12 to 15 times for this issues and out of the 2 times it has been there for a period of 2 weeks at a time. Also when driving the jeep at 70 MPH or greater I notice that the passenger seat headrest shakes and the floor as well on the passenger side and I feel it on my floor as well (very little). So what can you recommend the Techs at the dealer check next? Also I have noticed that when the problem is present and I put the Jeep in Nuetral that the problem still exists. I thought that by doing this that the drive train is totally disengaged which leaves the tires and wheels, but they have been replaced already. I also have had the tires Road forced balanced twice since I bought the tires about a month ago and all tires are at 6 lb of Roadforced and have been balanced properly, which I myself have watched the guys with my own 2 eyes do. Currently I have 13600 miles on my Jeep and it has been doing it since 6200 miles when I bought it. As a side note I have looked on other forums and have noticed that Porchses, Mercedes, and Infiniti SUV's are having the same vibration issue so what could be the common denominator here. Are the AWD drive trains that sensative to vibration? Because I know that Porcshe will only install Michellin tires that will produce a real low Roadforce number from what they say due to high sensivtive drive trains.. So any suggestions that you may have would really be appreciated guys as I have spent a lot of money and time trying to figure this out!
2. Next I would like to know if the Gauage clusters for the 2008 Jeep SRT 8 and the 2009 Jeep SRT 8 have the same pin outs and same amount of connectors? Because I was thinking of swapping mine out so that I can have the performance gauges in the dash like the 09's or 10's do. Plus I believe the mileage would stay the same as it is stored in the PCM somewhere as non volitale memory.
Thanks guys!
1233user 01-13-2010, 02:47 PM First I want to thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on these forums. I own a 2009 6-speed Challenger SRT, which like most of the 6-speed cars suffers from severe wheel-hop. I know this issue has been talked about in your other chat sessions, where the SRT engineers gave several different responses. What I would like to know is if you guys are working on a fix for this problem that will be available for all the people who already own these cars and are very unhappy about the wheel hop? I love everything else about the car, but to be honest, the wheel hop takes a lot of the enjoyment out of driving this car.
rconner 01-13-2010, 02:48 PM This is for a jeep SRT8
It just started the other day. It has been cold here about 20 to 40 degrees. After I leave work, its been sitting for at least 12 hours, I pull out of a parking lot and take a right hand turn and come to a stop light in about 100 feet. Wait about a minute for the light to change then take a left hand turn. As I take off the tranny starts to slip, goes to about 2500 rpms, I let off the gas alittle to stop the slipping and because I am turning, then give it a little more gas, still a little slipping but not as much, shifts into second, third, back to second then back to third then I and off to 30 mph the speed limit. It shifts slow then hard into gear then feels like it is floating trying to find which gear it wants. I have replacated this twice now, but I tried it this morning leaving my house and it did not happen. When I leave my house I am going straight not turning. It only seems to happen when its freezing and when I turn left??? Besides this the tranny dosen't act funny or shift bad. Its been to the dealer and no codes. I'm wondering if it just because of the short first gear in these vehicle, and my feathering of the gas. If it is not slipping it is still searching to find the right gear. It runs much better in autostick.
My dealer told me there is a fix for the exhaust rattle I have. Mine happens when I take a uturn and give it gas to where it dosen't down shift and loads up the motor and drivetrain. They said it is some kind of bolt that is rubbing. Can you enlighten me?
08srt8Calgary 01-13-2010, 02:49 PM It would mean a ton to us cherokee owners if you could really examine the question in post #9. More than 90% of us have it. The techs at the 2 dealers Ive had look at it have no idea what to do- and ask me to road force balance the wheels and charge me 1-1 1/2 hrs shop time to do it. They wont look at the drive shaft in my case and when I tell them it has been road forced balanced - I get a shrug. A very frustrating issue on an otherwise beautiful machine.

tmm403 01-13-2010, 02:55 PM I have an 06 gcsrt and was wondering would it be easy or hard to put in a newer (touchscreen) dvd/nav unit in from a newer year? Thanks just wondering..
srKEY 01-13-2010, 02:58 PM Do you guys have any tricks to keep the brakes from squeeling on a 07 GCSRT8 with 23K miles? I've heard the rotors glaze and there may be some braking techniques to get the glaze off. Any ideas?
Thanks for doing these sessions!!
srKEY 01-13-2010, 02:59 PM Oh and when is the direct iPhone 3GS link scheduled to be released?
BAD ASP 01-13-2010, 02:59 PM hello and thank you for your time. I own an 07 GC srt8 with 48k miles. This winter my trans started slipping only when its cold. I can't check the fluid levels because there is no dipstick. I apologize if this is an already covered topic but I haven't seen it yet. What is my remedy? I am the original owner. Ooops I see in post #11 someone has a similar problem to mine... what gives?
Knuckles 01-13-2010, 03:01 PM Hello guys!
Just wondering how this whole adaptives thing works? Basically I have been told by tuners that if and when you do install a CMR Tune on a Jeep that once the tune is installed that I will have to disconnect the battery and press on the brakes for 30 seconds or so and then connect the battery back up. Next they told me that I would have to drive the Jeep like how I usually drive it and do a few WOT runs as the computer in the Jeep is learning the way I drive my Jeep. Is this true?
rconner 01-13-2010, 03:07 PM Is a predator or cmr "tune" bad for our vehicles.
and
Can a dealer see if you have had a tune on a vehicle. If so how?
srtkilla 01-13-2010, 03:10 PM I have a 2005 jeep grand Cherokee limited that I did an srt conversion on and I have an aftermarket navigation. I recently put the stock navigation back in now is there anyway that I can a mygig into the truck. I think that I have a low signal canbus. I know that they make a lockpick but will it work with my truck. Any information would be awsome. Thank you. Jon.
wvmopar 01-13-2010, 03:17 PM First, thanks for an awesome car!
My question:
I have a 2009 Challenger SRT8 6-speed. When I accelerate out of a corner I feel a shudder and it feels as though the power is down. As soon as I straighten the wheel out it goes away and you can feel the power pick back up. This happens in all three modes of the ESP (on, partial off, and disabled). It can be repeated in a parking lot by doing a circle, not too slow, and then pulling straight out of it.
I took the car to the dealer and took them for a test drive in my car. He felt the shudder in the car. Then we test drove a 2010 SRT8 off of the lot and it did the same thing. The dealer says that it is the computer retarding the power to protect parts. I wouldn't think think the ESP would do anything with it being disabled. Is this something I need to be worried about? Seems as though something isn’t hooking up 100%.
Chris Hull@TTC 01-13-2010, 03:20 PM If I put tires on my Grancherokee srt8 that are 25 inches round opposed to the 29inch stock tires would I have to make any adjustments to my gear ratio in the computer?
Thanks!! Shake n Bake!!
demonbydesign 01-13-2010, 03:21 PM Thanks in advance. I have a few questions I hope you can answer.
First, I realize that the "bean counters" and government regulations had sway in holding you guys from doing everything you would have liked with regards to the SRT8 Challenger.
My question is in regards to the SRT8 automatic...will swapping out the 3:06 for a 3.92 (for example) potentially hurt anything? I realize you may have used the 3:06 to strike a balance between gas mileage/performance. But I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what it may or may not hurt and/or improve as far as performance especially in a straight line drag race type situation. And will doing a swap of 3:06 for 3:92 potentially introduce the wheel hop issues of the 6-speed into the Automactic/NAG1?
With the SRT challenger automatic and straight line drag race, in your experience can you suggest an optimal RPM range you might suggest I launch from to achieve the best 1/4 mile time? And what stock numbers have you experienced guys seen running the SRT Automatic Challengers through the 1/4 and 0-60? Come on, I know they must be better than some automotive reviews! (I'll leave out the names of the guilty).
Thank you VERY much for your time...and for helping in the creation of my favorite car ever now!
AZDEUCE 01-13-2010, 03:22 PM I also have the 70mph shakes, and my jeep 08' isn't a SRT, also it is only a 2 whl drive so nothing up front...
GLHS837 01-13-2010, 03:23 PM Hi guys, still loving my now +80,000 miles charger SRT. Two coworkers were looking over my shoulder at some new supercar on my monitor, and one said "Man, I cant imagine owning a car like that, you would want to be hammering it every day" the other said "Hell, look at Bill, his car is like that". Thanks....
Anyway, my question is if you know if police Chargers get the same trans programming that SRTs do?
Ironside 01-13-2010, 03:28 PM Hey guys, nice to see you back doing another chat!
As you can see by my sig, i'm on my 4th SRT product... as long as you keep making them, i'll be addicted to buying them!
My questions are regarding the Charger SRT-8.
FIRST QUESTION:
I (and i'm sure many other Charger owners) have always wondered why there has been no movement in offering the Charger SRT-8 with the 6-speed manual that comes in the Challenger SRT.
I realize that you are strictly forbidden to discuss FUTURE products (Here's hoping the 2011 redesign finally has a 6-speed *hint*hint*!!) but I was wondering what the thought process has been up to this point for NOT offering it?
Surely someone in SRT must have suggested it at some point, you guys even HAD the 6-speed in a Charger shell when you were testing out the powertrain for the Challenger! There must be some good reason why it has not been offered, after all... the cars are both put together in the same building so how difficult would it REALLY be? Just wanted you guys to know that there are hard core gear heads out there who want to burn rubber with a 6-speed pistol grip shifter in their hand... but who still have kids or other reasons that make a 4-door car a necessity. PLEASE REMEMBER US IN THE FUTURE!!!
(i'm also painfully close to switching my SuperBee for a Challenger but dont want to make the move because I just KNOW that the second I do that, the 2011 Charger will magically get the 6-speed and i'll be kicking myself!!!)
SECOND QUESTION:
In 2009 the Charger SRT8 SuperBee had only 425 vehicles built and there was always a rumour that there would be another 425 possibly offered in a different colour in the second half of the year.
Well, it's no longer 2009 so its safe to assume thats definitely not happening. My question is... was this the case but the financial downturn of the company forced the cancellation of this Bee? Did the Bee's not sell as well as you'd hoped and maybe they were offered in lower numbers because the full 1000 units of previous model years were not sold?
If there WAS another type of Bee that was going to be offered in 2009 but was cancelled, I suppose that would be considered a PAST product that never saw the light of day... if such a thing existed, any idea what colour it might have been?
Bottom line = why the change from 1000/year to 425/year?
Anyway, thanks for your time... i'm a HUGE fan!!! The day SRT closes it's doors is the day I stop buying Chryslers!!!
(Oh, and as a final COMMENT, I certainly hope you guys have the new Camaro, and especially the new 5.0 L Mustang GT on your radar and are getting set to blow them out of the water in the near future. Just sayin...)
MYSRT8U 01-13-2010, 03:33 PM Is there any late word on the SRT8 Jeep surviving in either 2011 or 2012?
suzieque 01-13-2010, 03:34 PM I've noticed throttle lag off the line in my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee compared to my previous 2001 Dodge Durango. This has caused me a couple of panic situations when I step on throttle and wonder if the Jeep will actually "go" in time. The forum posts I've read suggest the drive by wire (DBW) is the culprit and the delay is typical with most manufacturers DBW systems. Some of the recommended fixes are a custom tune or aftermarket part called Sprint Booster. My question is two parts. First, is the DBW delay put in by manufacturers on purpose and if so why? Secondly, will using one of the fixes I posted cause undo strain on a component that was not engineered for instant throttle response?
DMaxNMich 01-13-2010, 03:35 PM Thanks Guys for setting time apart for answering questions.
I own a Caliber SRT4 with stage 1 and AGP waste gate actuator. This past weekend i received 2 codes of over boost and 2 codes for catalyst efficiency. I thought with the S1 pcm these codes would no longer show up. Any help is appreciated.
luvofspeed 01-13-2010, 03:36 PM Hi, I own a 2008 GC SRT8 and it has a bad shaking problem. It began last year abruptly while I was in Miami. I took it to the dealership, they ordered and installed a new transfer case. This cured the shaking problem I was having while driving straight or while stopped at a red light. However, the problem is still very much present during turns and especially rough/violent when making sharp turns (such as into a parking spot). It feels like sprockets are missing they're grooves and falling into and out of place, and it shakes the car a great deal. I've had it in for service now 8 times for the same problem in my home town around Tysons Corner, VA. The viper certified tech agrees that it is a real problem and he has not seen it before. He also states that it's something totally different from the "crow hop" that some SRT8 cherokee's have. The district manager stated that he thought it might have to do with the fact that 1 of my tires had 3,000 more miles on it than the other 3. I told him that was rediculous, the viper certified tech agreed, and other dealerships have driven the car and said there's no way that shaking has anything to do with tire tread depth. I've applied for a buyback since they can't fix it, and haven't heard back in weeks.
1) What do you think the problem could be?
2) From an engineering standpoint do you think my situation warrants a buyback? (by the way, I only had 16k miles on it when this problem started and I only have about 23k on it now)
Thanks in advance for any help/advice
bfreeman 01-13-2010, 03:41 PM Vehicle: 2008 jeep gc srt8 (8000 mi). Mods: bwoody CAI, sway bar links, ss brake lines, predator tuner, R1 drilled/slotted rotors, Hawk ceramo-metallic pads.
Problem: Terrible bake squeal, especially near the end of the stop. Have tried deglazing, reburnishing, even wheel weights on the R rear caliper. Nothing works. Any thoughts?

Charlie Pr 01-13-2010, 03:42 PM Need a recipie for a shure fix to eliminate noise on Brembo brakes on 06 GC SRT8.
Is there other tires besides the Goodyear RS/A available for GC SRT8
SpeedKills 01-13-2010, 03:44 PM What are your general thoughts on a rear facing little passenger aftermarket third row seat in the Jeep SRT? Related, is there a certain portion of the rear of these vehicles that is built to crumple to absorb the impact of a rear end collision? Thanks much.
Plumcrazy4srt-99- 01-13-2010, 03:46 PM Thanks from all of us for doin this session!!!
My first question my 07 plumcrzy charger has had a whine from tranny from day one been to shop sevral times for weeks it shudders and shifts erraticly every once inawhile ! Now the last month I drove it November it starting to whines louder please help all they say is no codes !
Next question clunk in front end loud and if I hit a bad spot on road ruff steering wheel will jerk out of my hand they say it's ok but it's not !
I've owend two other srt and never had either problems! also had a 07 plum daytona with none of these problems ! Thanks for your help !!

Hope we kick some major but with the new srt of the future please shoot for mid to low 12s thanks!
Cuda340 01-13-2010, 03:47 PM 1. Is the MOPAR CAI good for 5 rear wheel hp and 7 ft/lbs. of torque on the Challenger
SRT?
2. Is there any advantage to removing the factory radiator airflow diverter from the
lower air box to allow more air to reach the CAI?
gnj152 01-13-2010, 03:48 PM You are doing a great job . Question: what kind of HP will be the 6.4L 2011 Challenger Thank you.
ksrt8 01-13-2010, 03:51 PM Just wondering if there is any word on a build date for the 2011 gc str8. Or will they wait for 2012?
DevssrT 01-13-2010, 03:57 PM First off, thank you for holding these chat sessions.....I have 2 questions
1. What is the recommended mileage number to change diff, tranny, Tcase, and coolant flush for a 2006 Jeep SRT8?
And
2. Any idea why the stock eagle RSA runflats treads seperate with PLeNTY of tread left??
Thanl you for building such a badass truck!!!!
JBC 1963 01-13-2010, 03:59 PM Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that the more I drive my truck, the more I appreciate the time and work you guys have put into creating my Rig. Question, when I shift from park to reverse or drive, I hear a whistling sound coming from underneath my truck. What is the cause of this?
09 BlkGCSRT8..Mopar CAI...Limo Tint
Plumcrazy4srt-99- 01-13-2010, 04:00 PM One more if u got time my 07srt charger dash and head lights have flickird from day one any thoughts !!
Also I snaped a driver side axle should this happen at 20 mph pedal stomp !
Basicly stock !
and03 01-13-2010, 04:00 PM I have a question about the Caliber SRT-4. I recall reading that the engine doesn't have balance shafts to counter vibration. If what I read is accurate, is there anything SRT engineers can do to tackle the vibration issue if it exists?
Cuda340 01-13-2010, 04:01 PM Two weeks ago, I had the "driveability" reflash done to my 2009 Challenger SRT (auto). What improvements can I expect?
Knuckles 01-13-2010, 04:02 PM Last question just curious if you guys have heard anything on the Jeep SRT 8 with clunking when downshifting? Basically I hear it when coming to a stop but if I am in Auto Stick mode and leave it in 2nd gear or so I will not hear it because basiclly its staying in the gear the whole time until I stop. My Jeep has been to the dealer as well and they reflashed my TCM to make the Jeep downshift smoother but the problem is still there so its just a band aid fix from what I see. The tech also mentioned that there was a bad batch of Splines on the output shaft of the tranny I believe and he said that mine had a new part number and that it was fine. So any ideas what it could be?
Crookster777 01-13-2010, 04:03 PM Thank you SRT engineers for providing us the opportunity to chat with you!
I have a couple of questions so here goes:
1.) What made SRT choose the Goodyear RSA runflats for the Jeep? My Jeep is only about a month old and I must say, I am very unhappy with the ride of them. They are too stiff. Are there another set of tires you recommend?
2.) Every once in a while, when I shut the Jeep off, I smell like a burning smell. I have no clue what that is and it does not happen all the time.
3.) Every once in a while when I pick up the Jeep in the morning from my garage, I drive the Jeep out and when I am going up the block, I hear what sounds like (and please excuse how I say this) the Jeep passed gas. It is coming from the rear of the vehicle and I think I could have something wrong with the exhaust. What is that?
demonbydesign 01-13-2010, 04:05 PM Any insight on why they don't offer the classic Vanishing Point white on SRT Challengers? Seems like any white would be on offer as a standard color. Weird. I think it would sell some Challenger SRT's for sure!
DevssrT 01-13-2010, 04:05 PM First off, thank you for holding these chat sessions.....I have 2 questions

Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:07 PM Will the 2004 RAM SRT-10, front caliper's bolt directly up to the 2005 or the 2006
Thank You
The brakes were change in 2005 to improve brake feel under heavy braking....
Yes the calipers from a 2005/2006 will bolt up to the same knuckle with the same rotor, but you will need to change the brake lines as well.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:07 PM We do not talk abou Future products.
Is there any late word on the SRT8 Jeep surviving in either 2011 or 2012?
SRT Service 01-13-2010, 04:10 PM Well well- first time I made one of these!! Tell EA "thanks" for the tour!!
Can't think of a question to ask that does not relate specifically to "future" products.
Keep up the good work- can't wait for the 6.4l !
Ironside 01-13-2010, 04:10 PM BRAKE SQUEEL!!! YES!
HUGE problem... seems to be that way for all of the SRT8's.
Every morning when I back out of my garage down the driveway (slight incline) and apply minor braking all you hear is;
SQWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
I'm tired of waking up my entire neighbourhood with my brakes!!! (that's what my loud exhaust is for!!!)
Any thoughts?

I would like to know this as well:) mine is more prevailant right when coming to a stop I will get a hard/loud clunk/popping noise from what I believe is the rearend, have had 4 different dealerships, 2 SRT Tech, 1 Viper Tech, 1 Master Tech and one guy even flew in from Chrysler and he left scratching his head:( I'd still like it fixed under warranty even though I am no longer in warranty.
Oh and thanks for building an SUV that can run 12's lightly modded and will butt hurt most on track/street:D
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:14 PM wassup SRT!!!!
i have an 08 caliber srt4.
Hey Iceman - Does your car have any mods? Stage 1 or aftermarket? I don't expect that its the throttle sticking or pcm having an issue, but spark plugs could certainly be an issue...perhaps if the gaps are too high or too low...until the cylinder walls build up a little heat the combustion wouldn't be ideal and therefore the car bucks. I'm assuming no codes are being thrown? Let me look into the thread you linked and if anything else comes to mind, I'll reply to your post again.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:15 PM You are doing a great job . Question: what kind of HP will be the 6.4L 2011 Challenger Thank you.
Unfortunately, we can't talk about future product details like that.
Betray 01-13-2010, 04:16 PM Ive had engine problems with my 2008 Jeep srt8 since the beginning of 09 and still going on. Apparently the problems have been heard from SRT engineers in USA. But they have yet to get back to me and have done nothing other then repair part after part on my jeep engine.
Driving above 5300, rpm fire up the check engine light. I'm just wondering if you have heard of this problem? The dealership told me its safe to drive with, i fail to believe this.. any help would be great. Thanks!
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:16 PM Couple quick non cherokee questions, I own a 08 caliber srt4 with the mopar stage 1.
Item 1 - We do not have access to final production numbers.
Item 2 - It’s always difficult to judge severity of a noise over the internet, but this sounds pretty normal. All Drivetrains will have lash in the clutch, trans, differential, and all splines. You tend not to feel it in autos because the torque converter dampens out the transition. Some manual transmission cars try to improve this by limiting how quickly the throttle blade can open. While this does improve the clunk, it’s not so good for throttle response as you can imagine. At SRT we chose to keep the throttle response and let the driver modulate the throttle.
Item 3 - We are always game for road trips, however, all travel must be approved by management. If you continue to buy our cars, our travel budgets will most likely be approved, and you'll see us there.

shorestyle031 01-13-2010, 04:19 PM should the power steering fluid be changed after a road course track day
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:19 PM 1. Is the MOPAR CAI good for 5 rear wheel hp and 7 ft/lbs. of torque on the Challenger
SRT?
2. Is there any advantage to removing the factory radiator airflow diverter from the
lower air box to allow more air to reach the CAI?
While we don't have any numbers specific to your application, the high flow Mopar intake is designed to minimize the intake restriction and increase horsepower. Just follow the installation instructions and enjoy:)
SRT09 01-13-2010, 04:19 PM Hello.
I have a 09 SRT8 6 spd Challenger with a Vortech (6lbs) and Magna flow exhaust. Would replacing the cats with a high flo replacments add much HP? How much?
Thank you for a great car!

I'm sorry you are having problems with your SRT. Can you tell me what engine codes are displayed and what other details the dealer has shared? What parts have beed replaced? I can't say as I have heard of your case specifically, but it doesn't sound like something we see very often. Please advise.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:20 PM First of all I wanted to Thank you guys for taking the time to answer on questions related to the SRT line!
We would recommend that the dealership contact the star support center and have the driveline system balanced using the service procedure. The procedure basically indexs the front and rear prop shafts relative to the t-case and the axles to offset any imbalance due to runout and component balance. Weights are then added to the driveshaft to cancel out any additional imbalance.
2. Today the issue with electrical parts swapping is a lot more complicated. The bus messages are not available in 2008 that are required to get all the "Performance Pages" functionality.

Iceman - I just read through the thread on caliberforums and nothing is really coming to mind at the moment....it appears that it occurs with both ms1 and stock and one guy commented on iridium plugs. 400hpsrt4 claims to have a wideband that shows the fueling is going lean-rich-lean-rich when this occurs...do you think by chance he has a data capture or file that I could look at? Its been quite awhile since I've driven an SRT4, but in all the miles calibrating the stock cal and ms1 I don't recall this. I'll get into an SRT4 while its cold here in Michigan and if nothing else, I'll have a reply for you at the next webchat....cool?
nxtcsrt8 01-13-2010, 04:22 PM My 300CSRT8 has a oil pressure reading of 99PSI in the evic even when the engine not running. I have checked for codes and there are none. The car is a 06 300c srt8 with 16,000 miles. Just changed the oil myself with Mobil 1 0 40w.HELP PLEASE.
Viperam2 01-13-2010, 04:23 PM The brakes were change in 2005 to improve brake feel under heavy braking....
Yes the calipers from a 2005/2006 will bolt up to the same knuckle with the same rotor, but you will need to change the brake lines as well.
Thank You
With your answer in mind (minus the feel), is one better than the other performance wise?
Thanks
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:24 PM Do you guys have any tricks to keep the brakes from squeeling on a 07 GCSRT8 with 23K miles? I've heard the rotors glaze and there may be some braking techniques to get the glaze off. Any ideas?
Thanks for doing these sessions!!
With temperatures as cold as they are you want get your brakes hot to minimize brake noise... The harder you brake the less noise you will get.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:26 PM asking this for many of my csrt owning peers....
do u recomend using a catch can on the csrt???
some of us who have had them installed say they catch a fair amount of blow by while others say its very lil.
what is your guys' proffessional opinion on using them or not and why?
Vehicle and engine durability is done with NO catch can. There is no problem with using one provided it is properly installed in the PCV system. Depending on your drive cycle you will find varying levels of oil in the catch can. There will be no measureable performance improvement with the catch can.
Whatever is caught in the catch can SHOULD NOT be poured back into the engine, regardless of what videos may have been posted on the forums.
SRTst 01-13-2010, 04:27 PM Ciao, <---- I'm sure you guys had to brush up on your Italian :P
Glad we still have you around!!!!
Question #1:
Question is about Caliber SRT-4.
- What is the brake line fitting thread/size (metric or standard) where the rubber line attaches to the hard line at the firewall and what size/thread is the banjo bolt to the stock calipers. I'm sure I can figure it out by removing the line but it would eliminate the guessing.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:27 PM I have a question about the Caliber SRT-4. I recall reading that the engine doesn't have balance shafts to counter vibration. If what I read is accurate, is there anything SRT engineers can do to tackle the vibration issue if it exists?
The 2.4L T/C SRT4 engine does in fact have balance shafts to mitigate engine vibration. Any abnormal vibration should be diagnosed and serviced by a trained technician at your Dodge dealer.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:29 PM What would make my oil pressure in the EVIC read 99lbs. even with the engine shut off.
That is bizarre! Does it read 99psi all the time? Sounds like something in the oil pressure transducer, sending unit, or wiring might be messed up.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:30 PM I have a 2005 jeep grand Cherokee limited that I did an srt conversion on and I have an aftermarket navigation. I recently put the stock navigation back in now is there anyway that I can a mygig into the truck. I think that I have a low signal canbus. I know that they make a lockpick but will it work with my truck. Any information would be awsome. Thank you. Jon.
I think your question is a bit more complicated than we can answer in a post....
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:31 PM I have an 06 gcsrt and was wondering would it be easy or hard to put in a newer (touchscreen) dvd/nav unit in from a newer year? Thanks just wondering..
Sorry, the latest generation touchscreens won't work in the 2006. We love changing electrical stuff.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:32 PM I also have the 70mph shakes, and my jeep 08' isn't a SRT, also it is only a 2 whl drive so nothing up front...
Refer to post #61
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:32 PM Thanks Guys for setting time apart for answering questions.
I own a Caliber SRT4 with stage 1 and AGP waste gate actuator. This past weekend i received 2 codes of over boost and 2 codes for catalyst efficiency. I thought with the S1 pcm these codes would no longer show up. Any help is appreciated.
The overboost diagnostic is still active in MS1. The diagnostic allows a calibratable amount over desired boost. Since the MS1 boost is higher the overboost limit is higher but the diagnostic is still active. What were the specific catalyst codes you set.

i do have mopar's stage 1 kit and i do not throw a code. im beggining to think that it could be the spark plugs. ill try to see if 400hpsrt4 can get some info i can send.
geeez i love these guys!!!! thanks for the help SRT!!
shorestyle031 01-13-2010, 04:34 PM When i maneuver my car in reverse it makes a very loud knock i took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. When i got it back it still made the noise it also does it under hard maneuvering. it feels like something is shifting in the suspension i put it on a lift and couldn't find anything do you have any idea what this could be.
nxtcsrt8 01-13-2010, 04:34 PM That is bizarre! Does it read 99psi all the time? Sounds like something in the oil pressure transducer, sending unit, or wiring might be messed up.
Yes it reads 99psi all the time at idle or doing 100mph. Thanks.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:35 PM Hello guys!
Your vehicle adaptives are constantly learning...some more than others. By that I mean as you accumulate miles on your car, some adaptives will "re-learn" more quickly than others if you change your driving style. If you put any tune in your vehicle, your info is correct and you should start with a fresh adaptive learn to maximize the potential of the tune. Again they are correct and drive the car around like you normally do, perform a few WOT pulls when its warmed up and you should be good to go. I've never heard of the brake press after a battery pull to drain the adaptives...normally you can pull the batt negative connector and turn the key like your starting the car for a few seconds and that will drain the capacitors in the module and give you a fresh adaptive start. Hope this helps...
Cuda340 01-13-2010, 04:35 PM Thanks for answering my first question about the MOPAR CAI in my Challenger SRT, but you guys did not answer my second question, namely:
Is there any advantage to removing the factory radiator airflow diverter from the
lower air box to allow more air to reach the CAI?
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:35 PM What are your general thoughts on a rear facing little passenger aftermarket third row seat in the Jeep SRT? Related, is there a certain portion of the rear of these vehicles that is built to crumple to absorb the impact of a rear end collision? Thanks much.
How bad is YOUR CHILD that you want to put him/her in the CARGO AREA?!?
The truth is that all crash/impact work is done with passengers properly belted into the factory seats. We cannot and will not comment on the impact performance of the vehicle otherwise. If you want a visual, check out NHTSA or IIHS rear impact testing videos.
shift_SR20DET 01-13-2010, 04:36 PM Just want to know if you plan on another plum crazy Challenger in SE and RT trims? -- My dad had one and I am wanting to get one. I have owned an 07 Charger R/T and know that they can get pretty good mileage in with MDS. I really like dodge products and also wonder if you are going to do any thing like the charger rebates any time soon as well?
on a sidenote to icemans post. I know it is a different engine but still I have had the best experience with my 400whp sr20det motor with bkr7es no iridiums straight coppers the IRs can get blow out from time to time and I noticed it would cut out on the top end. The good news is you can change plugs like every three or four oil changes and they run like new.
thanks
Joe Las Vegas 01-13-2010, 04:36 PM GC SRT8 question:
Any plans on having the option to upgrade the open rear end of the Grand Cherokee SRT8 with an LSD unit?
Quaife (http://estore.websitepros.com/802805/-strse-859/Quaife-LSD-%28Limited-Slip/Detail.bok) did it for the LX cars, why didn't they do the same for the GCSRT8? is it because an aftermarket LSD wouldn't be able to take the torque? any company even tried or thought about doing it?

POWERDEE 01-13-2010, 04:36 PM I'm sure everyone on the forum wants to know what can we do about the horrible squeel from the rear brakes. Sometimes when I romp on the gas I get a rotten egg smell. It comes in through the vents I think.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:37 PM Need a recipie for a shure fix to eliminate noise on Brembo brakes on 06 GC SRT8.
Is there other tires besides the Goodyear RS/A available for GC SRT8
There was a TSB address rear brake noise on the 2006MY SRT8... if you have already had the done. We would suggested trying to change your braking habits to be slightly more aggressive (doesn't have to be a big change). The hotter the brakes are the quieter they will be.
The Goodyear RSA EMT is only tire for the Grand Cherokee SRT8.
and03 01-13-2010, 04:37 PM The 2.4L T/C SRT4 engine does in fact have balance shafts to mitigate engine vibration. Any abnormal vibration should be diagnosed and serviced by a trained technician at your Dodge dealer.
In that case, has anyone at Chrysler thought of offering this engine as a crate engine? I'm thinking that there may be Chrysler fans who could install such an engine in, say, a British roadster.
budoboy 01-13-2010, 04:38 PM A couple questions:
1) Do you recommend catch cans?
2) When are 6.4L motor and SRT10 Challenger coming out?
3) I hear a squealing noise coming from my backtires whenever I fully apply the accelerator. What could that be????
I'm just messing around:p. I have no questions. You guys are awesome. Keep up the good work!!
I'm enjoying the heck out of my Charger SRT8.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:39 PM Thanks for answering my first question about the MOPAR CAI in my Challenger SRT, but you guys did not answer my second question, namely:
Is there any advantage to removing the factory radiator airflow diverter from the
lower air box to allow more air to reach the CAI?
Sure we did. Just follow the instructions and enjoy.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:39 PM First off, I’m an owner of two SRT vehicles, and I love both cars (Caliber and Challenger).
Powerhop is, unfortunatly, an unavoidable hazard in making big power with a manual transmission. From a design stand point, lowering the clamp load on the clutch would smooth that out, but the trade off is smoking the clutch after just a few launches. My recommendation is to keep working on your driving technique. It sounds like you have the handle of it in 1st. Remember, if you are power hopping the rear end you are not getting the best launch you can. And you're beating the crap out of the rear end. Could have something to do with the whine you are starting to hear. I would not worry about the axle gear wearing out, but if the pattern moved even slightly from the inital postion set in the factory it will get noisey. If it's really driving you nuts you might consider taking it in, but if it's only there for a small speed range it's not an indication of wearout or pending doom like a constant growl noise would be.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:40 PM If I put tires on my Grancherokee srt8 that are 25 inches round opposed to the 29inch stock tires would I have to make any adjustments to my gear ratio in the computer?
Thanks!! Shake n Bake!!
You would definitely need to get the ratio modified or your speedo will be way off as well as other issues. See your dealer to verify they can select your size tire to set the correct ratio.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:41 PM Would a larger throttle body help my car? 09 SRT8 6 spd Challenger with a Vortech
Generally speaking, increases in throttle body diameter yield modest gains. An a supercharged application like you describe, I would expect any power increases to be minimal to none at all.
Joe Las Vegas 01-13-2010, 04:41 PM Your vehicle adaptives are constantly learning...some more than others. By that I mean as you accumulate miles on your car, some adaptives will "re-learn" more quickly than others if you change your driving style. You can pull fuse # 11 for 30 secs on the 5.7 Hemi to reset the PCM, is there any fuse that can be pulled on the 6.1 to accomplish the same? (GC SRT8)
jpaine 01-13-2010, 04:41 PM I am a new member with a new 2010 GCSRT8, this would be my first visit to the SRT Engineers Chat Session and would like to "Thank You" for taking time away from your own personal life to do this. My question involves trying to determine the best way to have a take along spare when I travel more than 50 miles from home. According to my dealer,Jeep(Chrysler) offers no help with this issue. I'm considering purchasing a "replica wheel" 20x(9") and a 255/45-20 and throw it in the cargo bay when I take a long trip.(I have a 245/45-20)
that my dealer has donated to my cause but I'm not sure it is close enough in height and rev per mile to use.It is 28.7" rather than 28.1" like the OEM front tire. I'm also concerned how the 9" rim and tire would work on the rear as far as clearing calipers etc. Any help or ideas will be much appreciated by most of the GC SRT8 owners. Thankyou Again, jpaine
alfran 01-13-2010, 04:44 PM Would be great to get a "real" answer on the 70mph vibration in the gcsrt8? Thanks.
Omicron 01-13-2010, 04:44 PM Just want to say I really appreciate the SRT engineers participation in the forums. This is my 3rd SRT chat session (altho first on this site) and I always really appreciate them!
I have a couple of questions so here goes:
1) I know you cannot discuss future models, but all of us want to know if the SRT Grand Cherokee will continue on in 2012. Can you tell us if the sales numbers make it enough of a success for the corporation that it's at least likely it'll be continued? My current 2003 GC will be ready for replacement by then and I'd love to see a 2012 GC in the future.
2) With all the focus on the new CAFE standard, is it likely the coming 6.4 L hemi will make it into an SRT8 Grand Cherokee at some point, either the current generation or next gen?
3) Finally, while not a problem with SRT8 Grand Cherokees, wheel hop is a huge problem for Challengers like mine and other LX platform cars. Are the SRT engineers aware of the problem, and working on (or can suggest) a solution?
Again, many thanks for doing this for the SRT community! :bigthumb:
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:44 PM Two weeks ago, I had the "driveability" reflash done to my 2009 Challenger SRT (auto). What improvements can I expect?
This reflash was to address some low speed driveability concerns. You should expect smoother transitions at lower speeds when your on and off the pedal (i.e. fuel on - to - fuel shutoff transitions).
mcopare 01-13-2010, 04:44 PM Hi. I have a 2010 Jeep SRT8 and am experiencing a power steering issue. After going WOT for 10-15 seconds and let off the throttle to make a turn, it feels like the steering is binding or lack of power steering all together. This only occurs in Auto Stick mode. At rest, the Power steering fluid is at normal levels. Please help.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:45 PM Great question, but you will have to wait and see!! Thanks!
Do you have any plans to take the Viper ACR-X to Nurburgring?
krash1 01-13-2010, 04:46 PM So first, thanx for a fast, luxury vehicle! '2008 Jeep SRT8'
I have a few questions:
1. Will future Jeep SRT8 be equipped with tires that aren't complete crap?
1a. Can you suggest an alternative tire to replace these expensive boat dock bumpers?
2. When I am driving and let off the accelerator I can feel what I can only decribe as something in the driveline either not fully engaged or disengaged, like teeth not fully meshing? It is subtle, but my dealer thinks I am crazy, I can defnitely feel it though.
3. My headlights seem to be cold natured, I have to drive at least 20 minutes before they will "look-up" at the road. This is a dangerous "feature". Is there a TSB to fix this?
4. My radio will occasionly lockup, and I have to unplug the IOD fuses to reset it. Does the TSB fix this?
5. Will future Jeep SRT8's have a 6-speed trans i.e. better gas milage? I love driving this thing, but I get tired of going to the gas station twice a week!
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:46 PM Hi guys, still loving my now +80,000 miles charger SRT.
No. they are different.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:47 PM First off, thank you for holding these chat sessions.....I have 2 questions
1) Refer to your owners manual, the interval for changing these fluids is based on your drive habits.... Schedule A vs. Schedule B.
2) We can't really comment on the Goodyear tires since they have their own warranty policy. We comment you contact your local Goodyear dealer if you have a concern.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:47 PM In that case, has anyone at Chrysler thought of offering this engine as a crate engine? I'm thinking that there may be Chrysler fans who could install such an engine in, say, a British roadster.
Actually, we did consider offering it as a crate motor for just such applications. We weren't sure there was a demand. Since it's out of production now, it doesn't look good.
Knuckles 01-13-2010, 04:47 PM We would recommend that the dealership contact the star support center and have the driveline system balanced using the service procedure.
Thanks guys will have the dealership do that!!
POWERDEE 01-13-2010, 04:48 PM There was a TSB address rear brake noise on the 2006MY SRT8... if you have already had the done. We would suggested trying to change your braking habits to be slightly more aggressive (doesn't have to be a big change). The hotter the brakes are the quieter they will be.
The Goodyear RSA EMT is only tire for the Grand Cherokee SRT8.
The brakes squeal even at slower speeds, even with little pressure.sometimes it seem worse.
shift_SR20DET 01-13-2010, 04:50 PM Actually, we did consider offering it as a crate motor for just such applications. We weren't sure there was a demand. Since it's out of production now, it doesn't look good.
there is a huge demand for out of car motors especially those in foreign markets. The 2.4 liter motor is NICE just should have been made for AWD or RWD applications.
I have owned an 07 Charger R/T and do you know if you plan any of similar incentives that you offer for them?
SRT09 01-13-2010, 04:50 PM Would replacing the cats with a high flo replacments add much HP? How much?
Generally speaking, increases in throttle body diameter yield modest gains. An a supercharged application like you describe, I would expect any power increases to be minimal to none at all.
turbobuckeye 01-13-2010, 04:51 PM Just wanted to say thank you for holding these chat sessions and keep the great SRT products coming!!! :D
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:51 PM My 300CSRT8 has a oil pressure reading of 99PSI in the evic even when the engine not running. I have checked for codes and there are none. The car is a 06 300c srt8 with 16,000 miles. Just changed the oil myself with Mobil 1 0 40w.HELP PLEASE.
I believe I just answered this...but just in case, I'll do it again. 99psi is the upper limit that the EVIC will display. So it could be one of 2 things.
1 - The oil pressure transducer, sending unit, or wiring is messed up causing the 99psi reading.
OR
2 - Something in the EVIC is messed up causing it to read that.
Has the car been to a dealership for and EVIC flash or anything lately? I'd suggest you take the car to a dealer and have them plug in with a Starscan. They can read the oil pressure CAN message with the car running. If the Starscan is reading oil pressure correctly, then its the EVIC. If the Starscan also reads 99psi, then its something with the transducer.
Hope this helps....
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:52 PM Vehicle: 2008 jeep gc srt8 (8000 mi). Mods: bwoody CAI, sway bar links, ss brake lines, predator tuner, R1 drilled/slotted rotors, Hawk ceramo-metallic pads.
Problem: Terrible bake squeal, especially near the end of the stop. Have tried deglazing, reburnishing, even wheel weights on the R rear caliper. Nothing works. Any thoughts?
bf
A lot of time and effort goes into developing brake pad and rotor combinations that balance outright performance with minimal customer issues. Unfortunate side effects of high performance components are noise and brake dust. Your BooYah rotors and pads most likely do not have the noise countermeasures of the SRT components. If you are really committed to your aftermarket components, you could always try to chamfer the leading edge of the pads or add an aftermarket silencer shim between the pad and the caliper.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:53 PM First I want to thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on these forums.
I think you will find powerhop is not only a complaint on the 6 speed Challenger, but any of it's competitors in the class. In fact the Challenger is considerably better than it's rivals on this. My best recommendation is to practice smooth launches modulating both the clutch and gas pedals. No, It's not easy. Yes, it takes practice. But that's half the fun of a manual transmission in my opinion. Most of all keep in mind that power hopping is not the fastest way to launch the car. Ease off and you will go faster.
blackmariah 01-13-2010, 04:53 PM Just joined the chat session . . .was there a TSB for brake squeal for the 07 SRT8 or only the 06?
Really appreciate you guys still doing these sessions even though times are tight financially!
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:54 PM One more if u got time my 07srt charger dash and head lights have flickird from day one any thoughts !!
Clean and tighten the connections at the battery posts as well as the ground connections to the body.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:55 PM Would replacing the cats with a high flo replacments add much HP? How much?
It is possible that lower restriction cats could increase power but I have no way to estimate how much. Bear in mind that the HEMI engine actually responds better to a bit of backpressure than most people think. Very low backpressure exhaust systems regularly make LESS power on opposed-valve HEMI engines, particularly the SRT's.
Knuckles 01-13-2010, 04:57 PM Your vehicle adaptives are constantly learning...some more than others.
Thanks again guys!
2007srt8 01-13-2010, 04:57 PM Is Rod knock common issue with the 6.1? I have knock during cold starts and my dealer said it was the rods.
the knock goes away when it warms up...should I replace the short block?
my GC has 25,000km
thanks
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 04:58 PM There was a TSB written for 06 only.
Thanks!

demonbydesign 01-13-2010, 04:59 PM Any answers, advice, or insights to post #22?
SoonToBeSRT 01-13-2010, 04:59 PM What's a better value, a Jeep SRT8 or a Porsche Cayenne Turbo or even say a Mercedes Benz ML63AMG? I'm talking general value here, bang for your buck.
Like if you broke down each aspect of a a vehicle, where does the Jeep SRT8 lack in comparison, and is it significant compared to what the other models listed go for?
Thanks - love that you guys are doing this. For record, I have my own opinions on this, but I want to hear an answer from someone who although biased, has extreme level of intelligence in this area. Not every day you can talk to car geniuses.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:00 PM Thank you SRT engineers for providing us the opportunity to chat with you!
1) There were several reasons we chose to use a runflat tire for the Grand Cherokee, most notably is the improved lateral stablity and customer convenience. We can not recommend any other tires that would perform the same as the RSA's.
2) Can't really tell you want the smell is since we are not there, but more than likely it is the barcode labels on the exhaust....
3) Once again its hard to tell you want it is without being there... but if it goes away it could just be the something that happens as the exhaust system is warming up..... Be easy on the Loud Peddle to avoid it...
navyavi469 01-13-2010, 05:01 PM I understand how you can't comment on future products. I am now without an SRT8. I thought it was a truely unique and wonderful experience. My build (single turbo forged 6.1) was a consistent low 11-second performer, and it helped pave the way for a lot of the aftermarket fanfare that now keeps the SRT breed alive. I Want to say thanks for a great product.
However, I would like to comment to you, the SRT engineering team, that I really want another Jeep in 2011/2012. I'll be the first one to raise my paw in the air and tell you that I'm ready to buy one as soon as you can roll one off the line. I would also ask that you not "reinvent the wheel" when you're engineering this truck. You're not going to make that many of them, so the beancounter profit margin from your Italian bosses shouldn't put that much of an overtone on your choices. There are so many tried-and-true, wonderful parts out there to choose from, from the Dana-60 to the Ford 9", the NP205 and 392 Mopar crate, the powertrain options are plentiful. Give us new sheet metal, give us new capability, give us an interior that will put a Mercedes Benz SLR to shame, but please don't .. PLEASE don't throw me in the Briar Patch! (haha.. jk) No seriously, please give us something simple, that will hold up, that is modular. No more Frankenstein parts please, the front half of a NV146D and the back half of a Quadra-drive II is not something thats going to fun, easy, or even possible to get decent reliability with, especially since the EE's in the next-cube-over are going to have more can-bus wires coming out of the thing than the Apple II-e from Weird Science
I will come to Detroit, stand up on the conference table, and do the "Truffle-Shuffle" for Dan Knott if you guys will just build us a reliable, well-made platform to achieve greatness with.
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:f3wE71fuXZFw7M%3Ahttp://media.ebaumsworld.com/picture/ANATHEMAxBANE/TheTruffleShuffle.png
C'mon guys, think about it. The toyota Supra is a legend car, a dream car, a car that kids put up on their wall. What was so great about it... NOTHING, in factory form it was a dead egg. BUT... BUT.... it had potential. It was simple, it was strong, it was easy to transform into whatever you wanted it to be. I want the Jeep to be that way, and for the off-road guys... IT IS! You can turn a WJ into the most insane device ever to crumple cars or crawl rocks. But the SRT??? The Jeep SRT... its an oddball, its lerpy, nobody makes parts for it becuase the parts you put on it were all one-off wildcats.
I want the new Jeep SRT's to be the same way, I want it to go down in history as one of the fastest, most feared, most different, most cool vehicles ever to ooze from the primordial factories of Michigan. You have the power to do it, and I only have the will to inspire you.
Ok, I'll get to my question now. How come the 545RFE is still in production with its horrible second prime?
p.s... I'm not kidding about the truffle shuffle thing with Knott.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:01 PM Ciao, <---- I'm sure you guys had to brush up on your Italian :P
The thread size for the banjo bolt is M12 x 1.75
I'm guessing the other connection is at the frame rail (not firewall) and the thread is metric, but I do not know the size.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:01 PM This is for a jeep SRT8
This does not sound normal. Did the dealer check the fluid level? Could be low on fluid then expands as it heats up.
blown454nova 01-13-2010, 05:02 PM A lot of time and effort goes into developing brake pad and rotor combinations that balance outright performance with minimal customer issues. i got away from the stock SRT8 brake setup because the squeal was unbearable, and i know several of the GCSRT owners have done the same thing. after i ditched the stockers, i have used two different brand rotors, and three brands of pads.
I do not think heat, or lack of heat is the problem, and i do not think brake pressure is the problem.
my brakes will squeal when i pull out of my garage in the morning and stop at the end of my street.
my brakes squeal when i hit a stop sign at the end of an offramp after a two hour drive on the highway.
my brakes squeal when i have been driving around boston in stop and go traffic for 45 minutes straight.
my brakes squeal when i come to a red line with normal brake pressure.
my brakes squeal when i pull to a stop sign using minimal brake pressure.
my brakes squeal when i jack on the brakes because i almost blew a red light.
i have been to three different dealers with this problem, they take my car for two days and when i get back in my car to leave the dealer i pull up to the stop sign and my brakes squeal!!!!!!!
got anything?
Thank you in advance for your time.
Matt.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:04 PM Is Rod knock common issue with the 6.1? I have knock during cold starts and my dealer said it was the rods.

I am not aware of any issues with rod knock in the 6.1. Your dealer should be able to diagnose this issue, or possibly they could place a call to the Chrysler Star Center to help you with the problem. I hope this helps!
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:08 PM should the power steering fluid be changed after a road course track day
If your only going once in a great while, you shouldn't need to change the fluild. If you're going on a regular basis, you should change change the fluid... be sure to use MS10838.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:08 PM hello and thank you for your time. I own an 07 GC srt8 with 48k miles. This winter my trans started slipping only when its cold. I can't check the fluid levels because there is no dipstick. I apologize if this is an already covered topic but I haven't seen it yet. What is my remedy? I am the original owner. Ooops I see in post #11 someone has a similar problem to mine... what gives?
Trans fluid level is a good place to start. Your dealer has a service tool (dip stick) to check it.
Neloho 01-13-2010, 05:08 PM 06 GC SRT8. At 33 miles there was a loud, screeching sound from the
rear end. Immediately returned to the dealer. The noise went away
while they had the vehicle. The explanation was a that part was not
fully seated. A howl in the rear end developed that kept getting
louder. Numerous trips to the dealer about this and binding in the
drive train with no real solution other than changing fluids and
reflashing the tranny.
Just out of warranty a U-joint failed. Chrysler stepped up to the pump
and paid for it. That was part of the noise.
A couple thousand more miles and the carrier bearings in the rear end
finally failed. Another part of the howl found. We had to pay for it.
A couple more thousand miles and the howl is getting louder again. I
have been told the bearings at the outside of rear axle need to be
replaced.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the vehicle, the dealer has done
the best they can and I sincerely appreciate Chrysler's participation
in this thread. Is there anything Chrysler can do to see that the
problems that started under warranty at only 33 miles can and will
finally be addressed properly?

We believe that the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is by far the best bang for the buck offering the highest level of performance in powertrain, ride, handling and braking capability for the money. Each vehicle mentioned has it's own area of prowess which fills their niche in the marketplace. :)

Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:14 PM I am a new member with a new 2010 GCSRT8, this would be my first visit to the SRT Engineers Chat Session and would like to "Thank You" for taking time away from your own personal life to do this.
If the wheel fits on the front, it will fit on the rear. Be careful checking though.... you should be able to use the 245/45R20, but only as a short term spare.
icemanthrilla 01-13-2010, 05:16 PM how do i get a job at SRT????

how do i get a job at SRT????
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:17 PM So first, thanx for a fast, luxury vehicle!
Item 1 - The Goodyear run-flat tire is the optimal tire for the GC SRT8. The suspension, driveline, and stability control were all developed around that tire. If you insist on replacing them with an aftermarket solution with less sidewall stiffness, then ship's ahoy!
Item 2 - Is the noise you hear immediately after hard accelerations or does it occur any time that you lift off the accelerator. Do you notice a difference when you let off quickly or slowly? Please read the note above on driveline lash, this often manifests itself as you described, but depends on load on the driveline.
Item 3 - Check with your dealer on the headlight item. If you are from one of the cold weather states (like us) your dealer should be able to replicate the issue after an overnight soak.
Item 4 - Is this stereo a MyGig? Check with the dealer on this, there is a reflash to address such issues.
Item 5 - We cannot address questions regarding future products.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:18 PM Answer is coming!!!

Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:18 PM You can pull fuse # 11 for 30 secs on the 5.7 Hemi to reset the PCM, is there any fuse that can be pulled on the 6.1 to accomplish the same? (GC SRT8)
Same for the 6.1L - same vehicle.

I bought it used and when I got it home I noticed it has Corsa on the exhaust tips and canisters right behind them. Other forum members said that it meant it has an aftermarket exhaust.
I honestly don't know if this is the Mopar/Corsa or just Corsa. But I was wondering if this exhaust has enough back pressure that the HEMI demands?

Seems our friends to the north have a great vendor of SRT and Chrysler stuff, Maybe we could get jackets, caps, shirts available from the official store ! Thanks for making the greatest cars around. Please stay ahead of the game in regards to Camaro, Mustang, and especially mercedes !
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:22 PM Thanks in advance.
Wheel hop won't likely be an issue with the change in axle ratio since the torque converter smooths out the torque apply, but you do have a few hurtles to overcome. First, the trans needs to know what the axle ratio is to shift properly. I may have heard about some aftermarket products that allow you to program this, but I of course cannot recommend such actions. Going to 3.91 is a big step, and getting it to hook-up with all that ratio could be difficult and then you end up pedaling the launch and giving away all that you've gained. I'd look at the 3.73 or lower. Another option would be to go with the 175k torque converter offered by Mopar. This will give you a bunch more torque multipication on launch and not require trans settings adjustments or effect your highway cruise rpm.
and03 01-13-2010, 05:22 PM Since you can't mention anything about future products, may I perhaps offer a product suggestion instead?
In the February 2010 issue of Motor Trend Magazine, Ralph Gilles has stated that the new Viper will remain powered by its V-10, but he hasn't ruled out the building of a new V-8 car that will use some of the new Viper's hardware. According to Gilles this car would have a different snake-themed nameplate.
What if Dodge could have such a car that is powered by a 6.1 or the upcoming 6.4 Hemi V-8? This car could be a hardtop or convertible, perhaps built alongside the Viper at Conner Avenue Assembly.
1233user 01-13-2010, 05:23 PM I think you will find powerhop is not only a complaint on the 6 speed Challenger, but any of it's competitors in the class.
Sometimes its not about going faster, its about entertaining the crowd leaving a cruise night, or putting a smile on the face of a passenger by lighting up the tires, or just the satisfaction of looking in the rear view mirror and seeing the 2 long black patches that you just left in the road. It leaves me with a very uneasy feeling when the tires are spinning and the car feels like it is violently tearing itself apart, or having a passenger say something like “what the hell was that” with a distressed look on his face after I light the tires up from a 10MPH roll and the car wheel hops down the road.
Can I assume from your response that you guys are not working on any kind of fix for the wheel hop problem??????

Moisture and oil do not mix well. The catch can collects the oil and any water vapor it was mixed with. When they settle out, you get the nasty sludge in the pictures.

Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:23 PM Again, about the Ring... you will have to wait to find out..and won't it be exciting to see if the acr-x does against porsche, I know I am excited about it!!!!!
Nothin on my question? Any plans to take the viper acr-x to nurburgring?
Any idea how the acr-x will match up against porsche cup cars?
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:24 PM I just recently got my Jeep GC SRT8 after pining for one since 06 :D
Thank you, thank you, thank you. :D :D :D
Sounds like you have a Corsa system. The Mopar system is very similar but the tips should have the Mopar logo.
Chris Hull@TTC 01-13-2010, 05:26 PM Why does the exhaust come out only on the drivers side of the car? 07 srt8 Jeep??

DCX Depot-Eric G 01-13-2010, 05:27 PM Hello team SRT!
I have 45k on my 300 now, she's been an awesome car :)
I had my front brake calipers replaced under warranty because the pistons were corroding badly, probably a year and a half ago now. Since then I have read of several other people having the same problem and luckily getting warranty replacements too. No one has ever had a problem with the rears.
Have any of the warranty parts warehouses or dealers sent you guys a bad set to look at? Seriously - it's real and brembo should know about it.
Keep up the great work! I SO want a SRT8 Challenger.
You may like this, my basically stock SRT :

SpudRacer 01-13-2010, 05:28 PM First, many thanks for hosting these get togethers, giving us enthusiasts a chance to learn from the experts.
1. Several of us Dodge Ram SRT10 owners have found faulty oil temperature gauges over the last year. I would guess at least five have gone bad, all end up being the gauge, not the sensor or wiring. Any chance of a recall or a different gauge we can replace it with that may be more reliable?
2. I just installed 325/50-22 tires on the back of my Ram SRT10, and have BF Goodrich 305/40-22 tires on the front. The rear tires are a good 3" taller than the front tires. The truck is undergoing several mods at this time, and it may be some time before I drive it. Should I be anticipating a problem with the anti-lock system, and if so, what are the potential solutions? Would pulling the fuse help without getting a fault light on the dash? I'm afraid of getting onto the brakes and finding no rear brakes...
Thanks for your time guys, great work with these trucks!!
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:29 PM First, thanks for an awesome car!
The ESP was my first guess, but you said it sill happens when disabled. So after that, I'd guess the tires are slipping. Can you have someone watch from outside the car when you do it.
demonbydesign 01-13-2010, 05:31 PM Another option would be to go with the 175k torque converter offered by Mopar. This will give you a bunch more torque multipication on launch and not require trans settings adjustments or effect your highway cruise rpm.
Thank you very much for the reply. Sorry about hounding you on a response. My first chat session and I apologize. But I have a follow up to your response if I may? This torque converter...can you describe what it will do for the performance compared to stock in regards to launching from a stop? Will I gain time or am just looking at burning more rubber at WOT? And will it affect teh warranty? Thank you so much again it's an honor to talk to you guys at SRT!!!! :rocker:
blown454nova 01-13-2010, 05:31 PM anything for post 123, or the other people who posted about the brake squeal, or are we just going to have to settle for another person telling us its "normal" for our cars to sound like a freight train.
Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:32 PM Why does the exhaust come out only on the drivers side of the car? 07 srt8 Jeep??
Both pipes are routed through a common center muffler. The left side pipe has a slightly straighter path through that muffler and this may contribute to you seeing more vapor coming out of that pipe. Have no fear, there is definitely exhaust coming out of both pipes.
Also, I'm told if you drive the Jeep in Australia, more exhaust comes out of the passenger side pipe.
Grip Grip 01-13-2010, 05:32 PM How many miles are the stock spark plugs good for, realistically? I mean, at what mileage would you change them if it were your 6.1?

On any stock SRT Hemi, I would look for a plugs at about 100k per the service interval. As modifications increase, plug life can be expected to decrease somewhat. For bolt-on improvements, I would gap at .040 - .045". It's a little tougher on supercharged engines but start with a plug one heat range colder and gap about .035 -.040". As for change intervals with modifications, I can't really say.
hemituner 01-13-2010, 05:39 PM Here is one... What is the stradegy of the FDCM,, DOes it send out torque reduction requests independent of the transmission controller?? Also as we are finding out in High HP applications the motor knows no limits......It just keeps applying the fork harder and harder until it snaps. Is using Rolls Mode a safer way to prevent the actuator motor from just blowing the internals to pieces??
Thanks

Thanks team SRT! Would I destroy my JGC SRT if I bolted on a turbo system? If not, can you recommend one? What about an intercooler? I saw Stacy David set this up in a challenger... It was night and day (before and after)...

Team SRT 01-13-2010, 05:44 PM anything for post 123, or the other people who posted about the brake squeal, or are we just going to have to settle for another person telling us its "normal" for our cars to sound like a freight train.
Performance brake systems are more likely to have brake noise due to the aggressive content of the brake pads and the stiffer construction of the calipers..... When it is cold or very humidity brake noise is more likely to occur. Another factor is amount of brake pressure you apply, the harder you brake, the hotter the brakes are, the less noise you will get....
rconner 01-13-2010, 05:45 PM This does not sound normal. Did the dealer check the fluid level? Could be low on fluid then expands as it heats up.
Yes it was 1/2 quart low about 40mm. I don't believe they checked it when it was delivered. It still does it after fluid top off?
Sorry I forgot to put that in here.

Yup "CMN1" has said the same thing to me and he takes his Jeep to the track a few times a year. I have found that by installing the 2006 Cadillac CTS-V Akebono pads in the REAR the noise has gone away. I have no brake squeal at all.

The FDCM does not request engine torque reductions. I'm guessing you are asking next about the T-case clutch apply motor. It is a position based control logic so yes it will keep going till it gets to the position that is being requested. I can't say that I've ever tried it, but it was stong enough to break the fork? Wow, that's pretty cool. I'm assuming you had taking it a part and were attempting to "rewire it to add more power".
MYSRT8U 01-13-2010, 05:57 PM While road racing my 2007 SRT8 Jeep the light for ESP came on about halfway thru my 30 minute run and stayed on until the car cooled down and was restarted. What happened? I did NOT turn off ESP while on the track.

I have 2 Broken cases. It appears that as the front wheels slip it continues to push harder and harder on the case until the fork breaks. We are putting some serious power down and this is now sticking its head out. I figured locking her in Rolls mode at the track will just leave it in a constant position making the failure less likely.
Thanks for the reply
