: When Traction Control is Off!!
ineedspots 04-06-2007, 02:28 PM When i turn off my traction control... i get a really loud humming from the back, sounds like something with the diff back there. Anyone know why this could be, I can turn it on and the sounds away immeditaly, but i turn the traction off and let the humming begin!!!

My understanding is that the electronic clutches in the transfer case operate differently when in different modes of traction control. Changing the mode causes the clutches to take up differently.
HoustonSRT-8 04-08-2007, 09:16 PM I have the same thing and I hate it. :(

If I can learn to ignore the sound I'm sure you can too...just be assured you are not alone...there have been so many people talking about this including me
Sorry to bump a dead thread but I figured it beat making a new one ...
I can some the "hum" while Traction controll off as a normality ? I understand many people have the same complaint but I never really found out if it was an issue to be concerned with
thanks :)
SRTravis 10-11-2011, 04:49 PM mine had that when i bought it aswell, never really seemed to effect the performance and i drove all winter with it TC off most of the time. i changed my transfer case oil about 2 weeks ago and its practically gone, only reason i still think i here/feel it a little bit is because i knew it was there before but its virtually gone. change your tcase fluid i would suggest. about 80 bucks in fluid, a hand pump is suggested and 0 dollars in labor if you do it yourself. good luck
SRTravis 10-11-2011, 04:50 PM and but the tcase fluid online, its like 50 or 60 dollars a quart if you buy it from a dealership. we have carbon fiber clutches in our transfer case. pretty saaweeeet
ktm5555 10-11-2011, 04:53 PM Same thing here, and like he said above when I changed my TC fluid the noise and "grinding" feeling went away.
Just look how nasty its gets, the new TC fluid next to the old
If this doesnt make you want to change it nothing will lol

Perfect ! Thanks for the quick reply gents. Looks like I'll be changing some fluids this weekend
With winter fats approaching, I wanted to get this taken care of sooner than later
SRTravis 10-11-2011, 07:46 PM ya i wanted to get mine done before winter to! good luck man, if you have the money you could do the diffs to. i did both axels my transfercase, motor oil, and got my tranny flushed just for a peace of mind not knowing how it was taken care of before i bought it.
