Interesting, but isn't he a corporate raider? If so, that would bode ill for Chrysler's future as a major automaker.

The real interesting part is he offered $20 billion back when MB purchased it for $36 billion.

Now he is offering $4.5 billion. What does that tell you about DCX and the shape it is currently in, huh?:(

either way we will be screwed. I doubt there will be any more jeep srt8's...especially since alot of chrysler cars have mb parts in them...like the trans.

How would this be terrible for us? Chrysler would just research and design it's own transmissions, as it's done for many years. Or continue to use MB parts, just as an outsourced part.

Sounds to me like this would be good for the company, he is obviously very interested.

Yeah but the offer is really low ball and I don't think MB will even listen. I think MB paid like $38 Billion. They won't sell for $4.5 Billion. It's all about the F'ing money in just about every situation

That may be true. But the market dictates the price, not what was paid in the past. It's CURRENT value. Thus, these low prices. The company is in financial straits...they are all the mercy of the buyers.

Won't argue Mango but I don't think MB is going for the Bargain basement prices, otherwise why wait for other buyers offers. I think they are looking and thats it. Plus the Japanese could probably afford to pay more as GM or Ford have no money. Nows not the time to sell and why they bought in the first place is still the ?. I also read that turning Chrysler around is not to big of a deal, now Ford? they have a real problem.

Chrysler will do just fine, the germans just want to blow it off because they made a big time mistake by building a truck heavy company while the so-called war in Iraq was going on and gas prices soared.

Chrysler is small compared to other companies, therfore it can rebound from bad sales better than Ford or GM, the main problem is the japanese cars being bought in this country while american cars carry a heavy tariff in Japan just about making them un-affordable, and the fact that the japanese are very loyal to their native companies whereas Americans have no loyalty at all to the big 3.

I completely agree on the loyalty thing Stage!!!

I used to be of the same mindset, that the Japanese make a better vehicle, that's rubbish as the Brits would say. I do like the luxury brands that they put out much better than Cady and Lincoln though (i.e. Acura, Lexus, etc)

I believe u are right Stage, Chrysler will end up fine, unless for some reason MB sells to someone who parts out the company. Someone who wants to be in the AUTO business needs to be the new owner not someone who wants to make a quick buck. There is no reason that MB can't keep and make money w/Chrysler. What I don't get is why Kerkorian only offered $4.1 Billion for it. There's no way MB takes that offer and I'm sure he/they know this, so what's he up to?

KK makes a low ball offer, knowing DCX does not want to sell to him. He is hoping they pay him off to go away and not make a run.Chrysler is hurting bad, not doubt about that. That is why they do not want to provide any service after sale, or do it in a 1/2 assed attempt. Wait, maybe that is the reason that Chrysler is in the shape they are in. A lot of it goes back to the union contracts, GM, Ford and Chrysler. Anyone can make a bid. The best case would be Carlisle, Cyrbaris or some other large group. They know how to buy, what to pay, what management needs to be replaced, what needs to be cut, and how to turn it around in order to regain profitability, and to take them public at the right time.

DCX will take the best offer if it saves them money in the long run. There is a number out there (and DCX knows what it is). The negotiating process will go back and forth until a satisfactory deal is offered. If no such offer is made?? That would be interesting. A key element of an earnest bid being made is some assurance from organized labor that they will make major concessions with whomever the new owner is.
