: Love the car, now some questions
Vector-SS 04-04-2007, 06:26 PM :) Hello everyone,
My girlfriend is about to purchase this beast and i just have a few questions concerning it. I have researched the forum and came about a lot of valuable information. But i just need some more direct answers...
My main concern is the build quality and reliability. I know every car is prone to some reliability problems, but just in general, how is it?
Also I have come across several threads mentioning cheap build quality and rattles. Like how rattly is the thing? and does it really feel that cheap from the inside????? Thanks
synoil 04-04-2007, 07:20 PM I have had mine 3 months/2K without a rattle or problem of any kind.
I love this car.

Everything you have asked is very subjective! To me, it is typical of american vehicles in quality and interior. Reliability, Iv'e had no major issues. If she likes torque I would keep her around--the girlfriend and the Jeep.:D
I've had mine since August and haven't had any problems or rattles.

Ditto....particularly on the subjectiveness. Yes the plastic appearance is an issue for some. To me, the layout of controls, appearance and fit of the seats, and overall interior is more than acceptable.
Over 27,000 miles now, and 14 months. I have not one rattle, and have not have any issue that to me is a real pita. Did the trans flash, and Dlr replaced front rotors under warranty. Rears are fine.
Tires still have about 25-30% left. For me it works. Good luck on your collective decision.
HoustonSRT-8 04-04-2007, 08:26 PM I've had mine since December with very few minor issues.
MNBob 04-04-2007, 09:02 PM There is quite a bit of feedback on this thead:
SRT8 Problems seem high! (http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3323)
Most of it is very positive including my post (#15).
Driftard 04-05-2007, 02:13 PM First off, thanks for the forums. I got a lot of good information and opinions from it. I’d just like to say that one thing you need to consider when looking at the reliability of “GT” models of standard cars is the driver.
I work for Volvo and VCNA just killed their R models because it’s been costing them money to warranty all the stupid things people do to these cars. The S60/V70R was at the end of its “GT” lifespan with an overrated 300HP engine and Volvo may use their Yamaha V8 down the line to resurrect the line but for now they are dead. They aren’t race cars. They are faster S60’s with sport tuned suspension. When you beat the snot out of any impact absorbing parts or beat the snot out of your tranny it’s going to wear out just as quickly as a standard car. Race cars have pit crews and spare parts. They don’t run 100K without being rebuilt. Some people just don’t seem to fully grasp that.
I am strongly considering buying a GC SRT8 or a TBSS this summer/fall. I’m friends with a guy who owns an SRT8 Charger and he has had zero issues with it so far. He doesn’t baby it; he beats on it but not like an idiot. I like the charger a lot but I’d rather have the Jeep for the looks and the insane launch times. It would be a daily driver and I don’t go to tracks anymore so 0-60 would be a lot more important to me than most other areas of performance. The TBSS is impressive too but they are becoming far too common around here. The LS2 is a phenomenal power plant and the TBSS stickers for lower but if I can scrap together some more money I’d rather blow it on the Jeep than the TBSS just because you don’t see a lot of them in Michigan… unless you drive down Jefferson and see them sitting in the lot (well you really can’t because the factory is hidden by a green belt).
I have a question to those of you who bought your Jeep with a loan. What was your APR (if you don’t mind me asking)? I have excellent credit and I’m planning on putting between 20 and 24K down and depending on what the rate is I should be able to get my payment down to around $400 a month which is $50 more than my Acura was. Of course, the crazy thing is that my insurance would be a LOT cheaper for the SRT8 or the TBSS than it is for my 4banger, 4 door sedan. LOL! Go figure that one out….
Mine has generally been reliable. Aside from two TSB fixes (window seal, transmission software) I've had a blown passenger door speaker and the shifter unit replaced. 12,300 miles of hard driving.
Vector-SS 04-06-2007, 02:35 AM Wow, thanks for all the feedback guys.
Well today i came back from a test drive with my girlfriend, and all i can is this thing hauls. Someone on here told me to just stop the car, and stomp the gas, and so i did..........:D The thing just launched in an unreal way. Other than that, the rider felt great and the thing felt so damn smooth even on our Montreal crappy roads. Really impressed !
Im just waiting now for the final verdict :)
AlexT 04-06-2007, 04:06 AM Happy with mine. Like many here, no issues worth speaking of.

split2112 04-06-2007, 12:16 PM what cars have you had in the past? I had a POS Chevy Tahoe, so, in comparison, the Jeep is perfection in my eyes. If you're coming off a bmw or some high end car, it may seem a little rattly/plasticky/whatever...but its all in how you look at it.
promo718 04-06-2007, 12:30 PM 5.99% on a 3yr loan, nothing down (capital one)
this was in september of last year; prime auto rate may have went up by a tenth or so since then.
oh, and my 07's went 10k miles and had 0 defects.

I have a 2003 Saab 9-3 Vector, but a first year model for the new shape. The actual material quality is definately better on the saab, but trust me, the fit and finish is beyond terrible.
I was very surprised to see how much quieter the jeep was on the roads, despite the plasticky feel. Eventhough it was brand new, hopefully it will hold up as some of you have mentioned
