took my first road trip last week with the gc, hartford CT to Myrtle beach SC, 822 mi, in less than 11 hrs, thats with 4 pit stops each way for food and fuel(14mpg avarage)anyway, on the way back, some jerk off from nyc though he was gonna take over the road in his CL amg, not with me behind the wheel he aint! medium traffic on the jersey pike up the north end and we were both weaving through it no problems untill her decided to get cute and try to cut me off, well he must have **** his pants when he couldnt pass me:) so he drops back and waits for an oppertunity, finnally the right lane opens up for about 200 yards and I see him take the lane, well I laid the hammer down and he couldnt even get a fender in front let alone a cars lenght. I was as surprised as he was cuz I know this thing isnt the highway beast I hoped, but it was more than enough to keep him where he belongs!1644 mi round trip, and not a single car passed me once...gotta love it

AMG bites some dust. Good story, I think we're a highway beast for 90% of the cars out there.

The 2001 and 2002 CL55 AMG's have a n/a 5.4 V8 with "only" 354hp and 391 lbs-ft of torque in a car that weighs about 4,100 lbs. The 2003-2006 CL55 AMG's have a 493hp and 516 lbs-ft of torque in a car that weighs 4,255 lbs. You can usually spot the difference by the "V-8 Kompressor" badges on the fenders ...or the quad exhaust tips on the 2003-2006 models. The one published road test I ever saw for the 2003-2006 CL55 put it at 0-60 mph in 4.27 and 1/4 mile of 12.39 @ 114.5 mph. I don't mean to diminish your kill...but I highly doubt you ran across the supercharged version. Those cars live for the highway roll-ons. The 2001-2002 CL55 is still an impressive kill given it is a low 5 sec car to 60 mph and a high 13 second car in the 1/4 mile.

I agree with you. The Supercharged 55 AMG's from a roll will not have any problem pulling on, or readily passing a Jeep SRT. I have the E55, and had 2 Jeep SRT's. From a roll, the CSRT will be slightly more competetive. But the Jeep will always take the AMG in the rain!

i know my amg's being an owner of one, and this was def. the kompressor, remember, he was behind me, and did pull a bit, but not enough to pass!

Do you have any modficiations to your GC? I don't doubt your story....but a CL55K going all out from the get go should be able to pass pretty easily given the highway scenario. Personally, I think he must have underestimated you and gave 3/4 throttle and found out too late that he had to use WOT from the start. That happened to me one night when I thought I needed 3/4 to dispatch what I thought was a Porsche Boxster (or Boxster S at most) coming up on me...only to find out it was a new Carrera S.
