: i wanna lower my jeep? (Moved)
SrtGuy 12-15-2009, 11:35 AM wats the best lowering kit out there for the jeeps... i saw one on <filtered site removed> that was a 2" front 2.5" rear... is that the only one that gets it that low?? and what else r the "must haves " when lowering our jeeps
A.V.GCSRT8 12-15-2009, 11:47 AM there is a group buy going on around here for fully adjustable coil overs. Id get those. I think its a $500 deposit and then like $800 before they ship. about $1300 total. If you have the money they are way better than just changing the springs.
DCSpecial 12-15-2009, 12:36 PM I don't see being able to properly drop it 2" front and 2.5" rear myself.
I'm interested to see how the coilovers perform as I know 3 local guys are getting them.
I have the Eibachs and am very pleased with them...but they are a 1" front and 1.1" rear drop.
I've driven a few Jeeps with the Bwoody's and IMO they are too soft for the Jeep and make it easier to bottom out the rear. They are 1" front and 1.7" rear drops.

DITTO! I totally agree Dan. I thought about the coilovers as well but I don't see myself adjusting them that often, plus it will throw off our alignment anytime change the height. What I do like about the coilovers is the stiffness if the shock will be adjustable. So it will be interesting to see them on a Jeep. So far the Eibachs are working out for me and I am happy with them! I do wish the Eibachs were a little bit lower on the back but I would rather have the Eibachs vs. the Bwoodys cuz of how soft the rears are.
oman srt8 12-15-2009, 01:12 PM bwoody all the way to go ;)
bcm0018 12-15-2009, 01:40 PM I recently ordered eibachs. You can find good deals and eibach is offering an additional 10% mail in rebate. I highly recommend bwoody links too! Some do swaybars but I dont think a lot of people have much to say when it comes to seeing improvement with the swaybars.
rconner 12-15-2009, 04:28 PM If you want to wait a month or so I am working on a new spring set up that will drop the front 1" and the rear 1.4" and will have a better progression. Just need to get some time off and do some r and d.

That's quite a drop, I would think that the ride quality would suffer tremendously. I just had eibach's and end links put on and it handles very well and is comfortable (for me at least) as a daily driver. I've had the Jeep loaded with people and my 100lb.labrador in the back for a road trip and it drove fine. I have not noticed any bottoming out yet. I will be driving to FL from CT next week, that should be a good test. Oh yeah imo it looks awesome too. There are quite a few threads on lowering springs that are worth checking out.

So if i wanted to leave it that low i wouldnt have to mes with the allignment...and the coilover are better to get than just the springs right?...what im getting at is that i dont wanna do all that work and bearly notice a difference...if im gunna lower it i wanna be able to tell, i want people to say (hey that jeep looks sweet lowered)

Does this kit bottom out on anything and is there any modification to the jeep or anything with this kit. should it be a unistall factory stuff and instaall aftermarket?

Well it this new coil over kit should just be a swap btween the factory parts and the new coil over kit. I would hope the kit does not bottom out once installed. Like Dan said 3 members out here in Chicago have purchased them and we will not know how they perform until they install and drive with them on.
SrtGuy 12-16-2009, 08:43 AM ok i guess ill just wait to see if the kit is any good
Knuckles 12-16-2009, 09:03 AM Trust me anyone who looks at your Jeep will be able to tell that its dropped especially in the front with the Eibachs. Also like I said before if you set you coil overs to a certain height and then take it to get aligned. Then you will have to make sure that you always have at that height so that you do not get uneven tire wear on you front tires.
Here is a picture of mine dropped with the Eibachs

Here is the Jeep with no drop:

SrtGuy 12-16-2009, 09:17 AM i notice a difference in the back more than anything..but it may look better in person...so dropping it with the Eibachs u get a 1" FRONT AND 1.1" REAR?
SrtGuy 12-16-2009, 09:53 AM what about drop shocks? do they make them for our jeeps, and if they do would we get a bit more drop??
Knuckles 12-16-2009, 10:06 AM i notice a difference in the back more than anything..but it may look better in person...so dropping it with the Eibachs u get a 1" FRONT AND 1.1" REAR?
Yeah that is correct man! I agree that its better see them in person then in a picture as well. Do you have anyone close by that can show you there Jeep dropped? As far as shocks I am not aware of there being any to drop our Jeeps.
DCSpecial 12-16-2009, 10:38 AM In person you can definitely tell a difference between a stock Jeep and one with the Eibachs or Bwoodys.
Drop shocks aren't really needed as it's not an issue of bottoming out the shocks......its an issue of only have so much room before the rear axle is going to hit the bumpstop. Of course you may smack your exhaust with the diff housing depending on what exhaust you have before or as the bumpstop hits.
Of course with something as soft as the Bwoody rear springs an adjustable shock may help ride quality if you were able to firm it up enough to slow down the compression of the springs.
In the front, a shorter strut would get you more travel but then you get into issues (IMO) of the angle of the upper ball joint and the amount of adjustability that is present to properly align it back within specs.
Of course if you ran more negative camber you can go lower to a point, not sure at what height other suspension and steering components are going to start running into issues due to the height.
