Got my R1 rotors and brakes and im trying to get front right rotor off but it wont budge. Do i have to take the center nut off to get it off?

Thanks,

No need to take the nut off. It is just stuck to the hub with rust. Hit it a good whack with a heavy hammer. I had trouble gertting one of mine off too.

sweet finally got it!!! now i just cant get the old pads out of the caliper. DO i need a caliper spreader? I dont know how to get the retaining clip off either? maybe because the pads are compressed?

Did you take off those rubber o-rings that were on the stock rotors? That may have been what was making it hard to get off. To remove the retaining clip you need a small dowel or punch that will fit into the hole where the pins sit, using a hammer just tap them out (top and bottom) then the clip comes right off. You dont need a caliper spreader use a C CLamp and using your OLD brake pads us the C CLamp/old Pads to pull the calipers back be careful to protect the outside of your caliper also try using your fingers to pull the caliper pistons back. When putting the pins back in to hold the backing clip put some of the brake anti squeel lube on them.

In the pictures you will see him punching out the pins just make sure whatever you use is smaller than the hole I use an old allen wrench that was long. Basically after you remove the top and bottom pins that backing plate comes right off, pull out the pads, lube up the new set if equipped with metal shims put some anti-sieze on the back of the plate that is facing towards the pistons and use the ulta brake disc quiet lube on the pads themselves, before putting them in use either your finger or a C Clamp with the old pads to pull the pistons back flush, install new pads, backing plate, pins your done.

I bought a C clamp thinking I needed it and never used it. I just use my big fingers to get in there and push the 2 small pistons back. This is probably the easiest Brake job I have ever done on a vehicle. All it takes is a lil common sense and the pads are out. The only caliper that gave me a lil problem was the right rear because the pin did not want to come out and kept hitting the brake line. So I bent the brake line ever so slightly and just enogh to get the pin out. Don't know what the engineers were thinking when they designed it since they would not be the ones working on the Jeep.

Yeah it takes longer to remove all the lug nuts/wheel then it does to remove the old pads
