Is it possible to enable the camera even if your car is not in reverse?

What for? The rearview mirror gives a better perspective of the traffic behind you.

I could see why, sometimes it seems like cars are inches away from your bumper, in that case they deserve you know what finger. But in reality, sometimes it just appears that way and they are actually a few feet away. It would be fun I think.

I had that ability with my Pioneer AVIC-Z1. You could drive around town with the video of the rear 24/7. It was designed so you could see how the load you were towing was doing. I just used it as a toy. Nothing wrong with that. Not too mention the video quality was 2x as good as our cameras.

Yeah, no kidding! I want to read what he has to say. Oh wait, I blocked his posts after the last fiasco. :p

Most RV's I've been in have the full time back up camera screen. I don't see why you shouldn't get it hooked up.

IIRC, the camera is turned on by the CANBUS feeds from the transmission. You might be able to reprogram it, but I dont think you can do this without some serious StarScan hacking.....

I suppose it makes some sense for monitoring trailers etc, but the perspective afforded for parking is not good for useful traffic monitoring as per the rearview mirror. That said, if it were to capture the blind spots.....that would be a great tool.

there isn't a relay that is triggerd when the vehicle is put in reverse? if there is then it would be a simple fix; i work on electronics for a living, if anyone knows for sure let me know and i'll try it out. i don't want to hack up my car for nothing:D

Uh oh...stay away from talk about hacking. Earlier posts were shut down by the administrators of this site for fear of endorsing infringements of DCX software ownership rights and alienating DCX...a vital supporter of this site.
