: WK Brake Noise Update
Team SRT 04-03-2007, 10:45 AM As a follow-up to the web chat questions and the numerous posting on this website and several others, here’s an update regarding the rear brake noise concern that several of you have noticed on your WK SRT8’s. We are currently working with Brembo to have a TSB available for the WK rear brakes by the end of May. At that time we will have new rear brake pads with the latest noise countermeasures available through Mopar. We would encourage anyone with this concern to wait for the TSB to be issued to ensure that you get the latest noise countermeasures installed on your vehicle.
bruso 04-03-2007, 10:46 AM Amen to that!
jlandbl 04-03-2007, 10:54 AM You rock! Thanks so much for the update! We appreciate the effort you are making and the time to update us! Can't wait!
Dr.Steve 04-03-2007, 11:34 AM quick question if it can be answered by the team: will the TSB also cover rotors that have become scored due to these pads or the pads alone?

You guys (and gals) rock! Thanks. I hope you can extend the mileage of this TSB over the one for the LX platform. I'm over 12,000 miles already and that would exclude me from getting the TSB.
mattedmunds 04-03-2007, 01:22 PM This is really great news. It means a lot to have engineers so involved in the vehicles they've designed. We SRT owners are definitely a lucky bunch!
I am having no issues with the back brakes, but my fronts are the ones that are extremely noisy and have scoring showing up on both rotors. Will this upcoming TSB cover all four corners of the vehicle or only the rears?
Thank you,
Matt

Oh nuts! If that's going to apply to us I'm out. I just hit 12K. I hope it will be available.

x2, if i had known it was coming i would've kept it under 12,000
Eh2BRUTEh 04-03-2007, 01:51 PM None too soon. I'll be doing a countdown to end of May. The constant brake squeeking is driving me crazy! Nice to see someone other than the members are noticing these things.
AT'sGCSRT8 04-03-2007, 02:18 PM Is this only for rear brakes? My doesn't make noise but my fronts are grooved quite a bit.
whipple1 04-03-2007, 02:35 PM Sounds good to me,I guess they will change the pads to a slightly softer compound to stop the squeal, hopeing brake performance will be just as good and no premature brake wear,if there dealing with Brembo Im sure it will all be good(hopefully).
Rick G 04-03-2007, 03:02 PM Thanks TEAM SRT8, my brake noise is also coming from the front though.
JNK328 04-03-2007, 07:26 PM Sorry for the duplicate thread.
FYI
Just got a call from my dealer and he is replacing all 4 rotors & pads on my 07 GC SRT8. I dropped it off this morning for grooved rotors and an anoying squeal. I have the truck 3 weeks with 3400 miles. I also complained of a banging noise in the rear, cold weather related, bad shock. Two new ones being replaced tomorrow. So far Buhler in Hazlet NJ got my vote
OurZoo 04-03-2007, 10:32 PM I think you guys rock too, but tons of us are having issues with the fronts as well as grooved rotors. This was done for the LX platform vehicles and should be addressed for us as well.
HawaiianGroove 04-04-2007, 12:13 AM I had all 4 of my rotors and pads replaced by the dealer a week ago. Wow, nothings changed...I can hear the squeeking brakes over my radio! What gives

That's why the SRT Team said in the first post of this thread to wait for the TSB to come out in May.
OurZoo 04-04-2007, 08:58 AM That's exactly why I hadn't taken mine in yet. Just a waste of time.
JNK328 04-04-2007, 10:26 AM I brought it in the day of the TEAM post. They already did the swap. Oh well, let's see if they still squeal. I pick it up this afternoon
dukie748 04-04-2007, 07:42 PM Bought my car on Saturday, brakes are squealing already - less than 300 miles on it.
Rick G 04-05-2007, 04:55 AM My fronts were squealing at 40 miles and are still squealing at 2500.
I also find it a little strange that there is no mention of bedding the brakes in the owners manual, so I didn't........don't want to void the warranty.:D

How would they know you did the bedding process?
projectmp 04-07-2007, 11:52 AM I just spent over $1700 to replace the OEM pads and rotors on all 4 corners of my Jeep SRT8! The vehicle just turned 20,500 mile when this service was done. I couldn't believe that they wore down so fast. So you would think that front and rear brake noise would not resurface...but it did. Can't wait to see how they deal with this :)

Did you know if they are replacing your brake setup with the same pads,or did they replace with a new type of pad?Im not sure if they have the full fix yet to stop the squeal and grooves, but its good that they are replacing everything for now,Good luck
2MCHPSI 04-08-2007, 01:50 PM I have just over 15K and the squealing just now reared its ugly head. It seems mine is coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle... if a TSB IS released, would they even cover it with my 15K+?
06srt8satx 04-08-2007, 06:54 PM Had the Jeep almost a year and just hit 6,000. No noise at all from either front or rear.

Still haven't reached 6K miles yet, but I did have to replace my brakes. Not because they were noisy. I just burned them off. I wonder if the smaller tires is causing them to wear out faster. Tires are totally shaved down too.... now to just find a place to order from .... grrr... :D
WKSRT 04-12-2007, 01:59 PM Thanks for the update!
propedderkustoms 04-18-2007, 04:53 PM Bump! Mine just started to squeek too!!! Grrr
projectmp 04-27-2007, 09:55 AM Let's just hope this is resolved with some sort of slotted rotor/new pad replacement.
tommyg 04-27-2007, 10:22 AM Nitrocrzy:
wooaaa, 6,000 miles with new brakes and bald tires!
I've got 20,000 with new pads, and looks light I might see at least 30,000 with the original rubber
tommyg 04-27-2007, 10:27 AM My neighbor with a Z-06 just replaced all his rubber with only 4,000 miles. I figured out he spends more on rubber than he does for gas!
He tends to leave black stripes in the asphalt everywhere he goes, but I think the supertire rubber is a lot softer than ours. You really have to drive the Jeep hard to only get 6,000 miles.
Good for you!
MNBob 04-27-2007, 11:59 AM Bought the GC last July and just hit 8,000.
I have had no noise at all from either front or rear brakes. And the tire wear has been a lot slower than my previous sport SUV.

Not to worry you, but I had no noise until about 8500 miles. Now I have a squeal on the right rear.
jlandbl 05-03-2007, 08:02 PM Spoke to the Service Director at my dealer tonight when I dropped the rig off for the sunroof problem. Asked if he heard about the brake TSB coming out. He said no. But he confirmed all prior brake TSB's for DCX cars usually have a 1 year or 12k mile cap on them. He was pissed that I knew something might be coming before he knew.

Its coming out this month, I spoke with a mike fairo from DCX and him and my dealer have made contact about my break noise. I have around 14k on the car but noted it to dc earlier before i hit 12k and they have it on file. As soon as the TSB comes out than it'll be taken care of. They shouldnt keep it on a 12k cap - we all had this problem for a while , no reason why we should take the hit for DC being slow about it.

Hey, I've got 11,970 on it right now and have had the squeaking brakes since around 10,000 miles. I am going to stop off at the dealer first thing in the morning to let them know about the problem. Will having them put it on file suffice, or should I have them contact DCX while I am there?

BANG!!!!!
Good stuff Bro!!
I've had the squeel since the 1st day too. My Ram SRT 10 had a similar squeel but had no issues with grooves or wear. I thought it was normal on the SRT lines due to the performance "big brakes". The difference between the GC and the Ram is when I hit the brakes with the Ram and they squeel, I can tap a second time and they become silent. With the GC it doesn't seem to make a difference on the secod tap, they still squeel.
I will check for wear and grooves tomm morning.
jlandbl 05-09-2007, 06:03 AM Is it the end of May yet? Come on!!!!!!!!!
A quick pad change solved everything for me. I have 18k on it now and have been complaining about my brakes for probably 15k miles. Dealers response "noise is normal for high performance brakes" yeah sure it its.
Nearing 14k now. Im going to be ****ing pissed if im not eligible. DCX has known about this problem since day 1 and has sat on their haunches while those of us who own 06s drove past 12k.

As long as you brought it to your dealers attention before you hit 12K, you'll be fine. However, if you did nothing, I think you're gonna be SOL. The TSB is covered under the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty.
equake 05-24-2007, 07:26 AM Just hit 10k miles and dealer tells me I need new rotors/pads on the rear.....unfortunately i took delivery on 1/17/06 and am over the 12 months.....are there any angles to get these replaced under warranty or am I in for a big bill?
2MCHPSI 05-24-2007, 09:22 PM I have 17K on the car and made my appointment for next wednesday. They are covering everything under the TSB for free.

Finally changed my tires. Bought Goodyear F1 Supercar tires the same size as the Pirelli's. After I bought them, I discovered one of the Pirelli's started to develop a buldge. The goodyears are run flats and of course no returns or refunds. I had them mounted and will see how they do maybe this weekend on the track

Try taking care of the service manager!!
