: dilemma , your opinions
brianm 12-07-2009, 11:04 AM hi guys , susan kinda dropped a bombshell tonight , she says she is REALLY struggling to get our disabled daughter leigh in and out of the rig when i am not there:(
so heres the dilemma , do i trade in the rig , something i though id NEVER hear myself saying,
OR do i have her lowered with one of paulies lowering kits , how much of a difference would it make ??
KingOfTheRoad09 12-07-2009, 11:57 AM hopefully one of Paulies kits will help out. Any other SUV/Truck has got to be just as difficult right?. Keep the Beast!!! Of course family is always the most important thing but there has to be an alternative to trading it in. Possibly getting an inexpensive car or something?
Vinnysrt8 12-07-2009, 11:59 AM Brian any other suv will be higher so its harder i would lower it and hopefully it will be good.
CentralTexHemi 12-07-2009, 11:59 AM Yeah if you need an SUV or Truck the SRT8 Jeep already comes lower than the rest and the Bwoody, Eibach or K1 drop will make it even lower and yes the drop does help. I cant think of any other SUV or Truck that sits lower then ours
I'd go with the coilovers as well, or with a trade-in for a Maggie SRT8, and lower her too:eek:
brianm 12-07-2009, 12:18 PM how much lower than stock does the bwoody give ??
SVT_GT500 12-07-2009, 12:39 PM The jeep is safe, lower it and keep it. Probably better than trading in on a smaller less safer rig.
LonghornSpencer 12-07-2009, 12:41 PM If it's tough getting her in and out now can't imagine that maybe 2" is going to make that much of a difference.
Can tell you that getting my kids in and out of the Jeep was WAY easier than getting them in and out of my Magnum
BOYCHIKS 12-07-2009, 05:04 PM Brian, I hope you can figure a way to keep the jeep. If you have to get another SUV, well, you won't find one that fits the needs for her and is as safe as the jeep.
Hope all is well

Brian,
Since I have only tried a couple times getting in and out of the rear of a GC..I noticed the wheel well is cumbersome to deal with. If I were you, I ask her what is giving her difficulty and address it that way. This way, if height is the issue, then you can lower. If it's something else, then I'd rather spend that money on something with wider access at the doors. Mini van comes to mind, but I can't bear to drive one, let alone buy one. I also don't have extenuating circumstances.
Again, Ask her what is her difficulty and address that issue. It may be something easy to fix.
Brian

Do you share the SRT with Susan ? or can she trade her whip in for a minivan?
Matt McKenzie 12-07-2009, 09:18 PM Brian, I do not think a 1-2 inch drop will matter that much and make it easier for Susan to get Leigh into the Jeep. I would say to try to get a cheaper car, one that she could get into a lot easier, that way Susan could use that when you aren't there...but I also know that finances are tight, so you might have to trade it in. Anyways, all that to say family first brother!!!
bigwil 12-07-2009, 09:43 PM What, exactly, is her disability, and how big is she?
My 11-year old daughter has Cerebral Palsy and is quadriplegic. Granted, she is the size of a 5 year old, she is very spastic and difficult to manipulate. My wife nor I have any real problems getting her in or out of the Jeep or the Magnum. I have always refused to get a Minivan, but the Magnum has less intrusion from the wheelwell, so it is a bit more accessible.
Is your wife's problem height or space?
