: To buy extended warranty or not?

Here is my dilemma. I flip cars a lot if I don’t like them. My friend is a dealer so I use his business to flip them. In the last 12 months these are the cars I bought and sold until I got a 2007 SRT8 (I got kids so I need room):

2002 Tundra for 4 years, finished house remodel so I sold it. New tundra is terrible, Tacoma that got fattened up to the old tundra size is only 6cyl and not as solid as the old one.

Bought a 2005 VW Toureg 4.0. Fast and really nice inside but the trans shifting really annoyed me. Sold it

Bought a new 2010 Merc GL450 for the wife and I don’t like it either. Throttle delay, wallowy ride, ok power. Was thinking of a used M class 63 but those are 40k, half price of new but it looks like a chick car. Used G wagons are cool but expensive.

Bought a 2005 SRT10 RAM Quad Cab. Loved it, better quality than the SRT8 even with 9.6 MPG. Too much a pain to park downtown Austin for business meetings etc. So I sold it too for my 2007 SRT8.

The SRT8 is nice but I think its of dubious quality. I have had it in the dealer for numerous warranty items, nothing major but a history of the car showed transmission work as well. I don’t know if the M class based Jeep of 2011 coming out in spring 2010 is coming SRT8 or not, if so I am thinking of getting a new one. If not I’ll keep my existing jeep and warranty up.

I got 1000 miles (35k on the clock) left to make a decision to drop about 3k on an Chrysler extended warranty (6 / 70) or not and even with it they could decline repairs if they find mods.

I have built / owned 17 classic cars and currently own a 550hp kit car cobra and a 68 cuda convert so I can fix all the minor crap that goes wrong with cars but I need this jeep for work.

I guess I really need to know if there is a 2011 SRT8, if so I’ll skip the warranty. Paying 3k for 10 months of waiting for the 2011 models doesn’t make sense. 3k in repairs goes a long way unless I blow an engine or trans.

What to do....?

Sure and when you sell the car cancell the exstended warranty and chrysler will prorate it and send you back money. I always get the maxie care 7/100,000 0 deductable 1 as who knows you just may want to keep the JEEP.
