My wife and I love the GCSRT8. I have owned a TBSS, and hated it; not for the performance or noise but it's a poorly designed truck. I sold it and now that my wife and I are expecting our first child in about 5 months we are looking an SUV again.

We have decided on a SRT8 for two reasons: 1) It's got the room of an SUV 2) It's got the power of her Lexus, plus some, and plenty of power for daddy to enjoy.

The problem is: I am starting to have concerns of weather or not the SRT8 is going to be a practical mommy mobile for my wife. I have a company car that I drive every day, so the Jeep will be for her and the baby. We will be using the company car for trips and stuff like that so we're not concerned with long trips.

So, from your experience, and please be 100% open and honest, is the SRT8 practical for a mommy mobile and comfortable and safe to carry an infant around in 5 days a week?

TYIA for your help!

Its a little on the small side when it comes to an SUV but I think it is actually a great mommy mobile. It has the rear entertainment to keep the kids happy when they get a little older and I think its really safe. Recently one guy got hit by a drunk driver and rolled 4-5 times and everyone walked away fine.

It may not get the best gas mileage and I haven't had a winter in it yet but I think you will be happy with your decision.

You may want to PM hawkman996 on the saftey of the jeep. I feel also that faster cars can get you out of situations easier like merging on the highway or trying to get over in traffic.

If ppl can drive regular JGC for daily drivers, so can your gorgeous wife. Just as long as she can handle the power and drive safely with her and the baby. Goodluck!

Well the jeep is what my wife drives the most, more the me :o and we have had our son in it since he was born which is 13 months now and we have not had a problem yet, and we have on of the biggest car seats known to man LOL.

And its still a GREAT even with the mods in my Sig, she says we will never sell the jeep, she loves it that much.

Good luck

Only thing I would suggest is get ride of the Stock runflats and I recommend Nitto 420's. The stock tires are hard and expensive. The ride is night and day, your wife will not like the stock ride over bumps.

the beast is one of the safest rides made, get the tv in the back for the kids, and it will put a smile on your face everytime you drive it on your time away from work. Your wife will be extra pleased with you because you will be happily volunteering to run errands at anytime:D

My wife and I could not sit comfortably with the car seat behind the seat. I moved it to the center, which some people do not like, and it was ok. We still use her Saturn Vue for long trips because my exhaust can get on her nerves sometimes but its aftermarket. Also keep in mind that this is an SRT8 and some might try to challenge her on the highway by tailgating and being an a-hole. Of course they don't know any better but it might freak her out. My wife gets challenged all the time and stopped at gas stations for a Q&A on the Jeep SRT which she knows NOTHING about. Lol. Other than that, she really enjoys the ride and loves the power for when she needs it.

Thank you all for your responses! I'm glad to hear a few people actually use the SRT8 as a daily baby carrier. The really wards off some of the second guessing.

Any other comments or oppinions on the matter??

The best way is to have the wife test drive one. Where are you located?

The best way is to have the wife test drive one. Where are you located?

We are located in Charlotte, NC. We test drove an 07 at a dealership last weekend and she loved it. She loved the power, similar to her IS350, and loved all the features (remote start mostly).

Since we have been talking it over and this is our first child, we're not sure what to really expect in that area. Knowing the SRT is a "small SUV", we started to question weather is was really practical to have this as her daily driver mommy mobile with an infant or if we were just fooling our selfs because we both wanted the power.

My fiance was scared of the car because of how loud it sounded and frankly, the eibach's. She drove it the other day for the first time and has been trying to steal the keys ever since.

Reason #1: Look, frankly you owe it to your son (if it is a boy).
Reason #2: You really want to drive a minivan for "the space"?

Things to consider....

It is not a 7-series or a uber-luxury suv, but it is very nice
I highly recommend staying with the stock suspension.... eibach's = baby puke
As stated, faster car = safer car... if that makes any sense.
This truck may actually Apreciate!

It's practical just tell her to be careful not to curb the rims and don't part close to curb stops amd rip the bumper off

The Jeep SRT-8 is a great family car - looks good, performs well, and when you feel like you want to drive a sports car/truck, you have the opportunity to do so in these rigs.

If you modify the Jeep, i.e. aftermarket exhaust, etc. - it might be a bit too loud for the wife and baby. Keep it stock or get a CAI.

Go get one!

I have a 3.5 month old boy. I sold my wifes car when she was at the hospital (ml320) so the Jeep was the baby car for a few months. I didnt mind it, but I found the ride a little rough in the back for the baby. Granted, I have wonderful NY roads to deal with. So if the roads are nice then you wont have an issue.

If you go with a 2010, there is no factory standard rear DVD system.
Easily fixed, but not direct from factory.

I'll be hauling a 4 year old and a 2 year hold, car seats and all other required parafunalia. :)
Will let you know in about a month how it all "fits".

I guess I'm going to be the only one that disagrees with using the SRT Jeep as a mommy mobile. To me, the key point that was asked is "...is it practical?" Come on guys, the Jeep is hardly a practical choice. It may be the most fun, the best looking, safe, etc., but a 11mpg, premium required, smallish, stiff riding beast is hardly practical. Can you use it as a daily driver and haul the kids around? Sure, as many of you have testified. But when I asked my wife if she thought the Jeep was practical, she just laughed.

So if you want to get a fun ride that you'll love to drive everyday get the SRT. Just don't try to tell your friends that you got it because it was a practical choice for a mommy mobile.

I have a 4 year old and a one year old. It works, but if you're relatively tall, their isn't much room for the backwards faacing car seats. Once they spin around and face forward, it's better, but I still cannot use the auto-exit seat feature because there isn't enough room to go back that far. Also, once you put a regular sized stroller in the cargo compartment, that's it... Nothing else of consequence is going to fit. I wouldn't be happy if it was the only vehicle we had. Fortunately, we also have a minivan, which is great for baby hauling duties. Also, on trips, the minivan is wonderful - the electric doors and hatch are invaluable at times. That said, I LOVE my Jeep SRT8. It's awesome!

I agree with flats3. As you guys said, It can easily be done, but it is deffinatley not the most practical. It comes down to where you want to compromise. If you want to compromise plushness for power and speed.
Maybe you wouldnt be happy with say a Lexus GX for example because the harsh power isnt there, and it wouldnt be as fun to drive. But for comforot for the baby it would deffinatley be better.

My girlfriend loves driving the jeep but she deffinatley would not want it as her only vehicle to cart a baby around.

Practical is a relative question.

For some, practical means Mini Van.

For some, practical is a Hummer H2.

An SRT is not practical when considering features for purely baby benefits.
So there has to be compromise...Mommy and Daddy want power, all wheel drive as well as storage capabilities.
The Jeep has those.
But so do plenty of other SUV's.
The priority of those needs over what you want to give up for baby, is where you determine if the Jeep will work for you.
I will say, the baby will not complain about any vehicle you have. They don't know and don't care. They want food, sleep and a clean diaper.
Good luck and Congratulations on the new addition. To me, it was the best thing I have had happen to me in my whole life.

Put it this way....you can 'make' it work if you really want the Jeep. The only drawback to me on our Jeeps is that the back seats are a tight fit for adults. I have a 2 y/o and another baby on the way in March and the Jeep will suit us just fine. The cargo area is adequate, but another thing to keep in mind is that the Jeep is not equipped with a spare tire. I keep a compact air compressor in there at all times tho. If you and your wife love the Jeep I say just go for it!

I know of several guys on here 2 car seats in the back and have no issues (one having a 426 under the hood). The jeep is only a beast when you want it to be, keep your foot out of the pedal and it drives normal. The good thing is and to me its a key safety point the power is there when you do need it, merging, avoiding accidents, excellent brembo braking and good downshifting. Like said before look at hawkmans jeep after it rolled many times very convincing that its a safe SUV

The Jeep in my sig is actually my wifes. She has no idea what it is or that it has mods. She just knows that it's better than her H2 at getting ahead of traffic when merging from the on-ramp. I have 3 kids ages 5 months, 3 yeras, and 6 years old. The baby seat is in the the middle rear as others have suggested. I also took off the run craps and put on the Nitto NTS's. It was like buying a whole new car. She loves using it as a daily due to the remote start and heated seats. She now has her eye on the ML63 AMG. We'll get a used 09 next year and the Jeep will be mine to do heads cam and super charger.

My Jeep is the 'family car' (2 kids, 6 &5) so it's perfect for us. The rear DVD/TV option is worth it's weight in gold IMO. We had a Limited HEMI before this and we used baby seats and car seats in it without issues. Currently my SRT8 has 2 booster seats in the back and the kids love it.

It's classified as a standard SUV (vs small or large). Same size as an RX350, ML350 me thinks.

Cons:
Poor Gas Mileage
Stiffer ride (compared to other standard SUVs)
Rugged/Safe
Daddy will love to steal it

Pros:
Great performance
Great styling
Good Value
Infotainment (pre-2010)
It's made in the USA (well, for some, that's important)
Same price as a comparably options Lexus or MB.

A more practical Jeep choice is a WK Limited HEMI (5.7L) which can also be modded for some extra performance.

The rear DVD is the best

the wifey is almost 8mo pregnant and We upgraded from a 06 Mustang to the GCSRT8. My other son is already 15 yrs old 6ft 200 lbs and fits comphy in the back seat of the GCSRT8. So with my oldest and the new born the GC SRT8 is a perfect vehicle for the 4 us. i don't mind the extra horse power it comes with too...Way better then the Tahoe i was thinking about getting..LOL.:D

The Tahoe is much more "comfy", but with minivan like power. I am 6ft and 195 lbs, and you could not pay me to ride in the backseat of the Jeep. Maybe the next generation Jeep will actually have some leg room back there.

I must have the passenger seat forward about half way just to get the diaper bag in and out. I put a 5 gallon can of paint there today and had to have the front seat almost touching the dash. If there is one flaw with the WK it is rear leg room.

I would not trade my Jeep for any other vehicle right now. It is a sports car for parents. For many years I wanted a 911 since it had a back seat, now that would not be "practical". Put a Vortech on the Jeep and you can almost run Turbo 911 numbers.
I can't wait to see the 2012 JGC SRT8.
