: Insurance Question...Any one understand this?
QuickOne 12-02-2009, 06:30 PM So, I called my insurance agent to update them that I would be upgrading my truck to the GCSRT8. The agent was great, and quoted me $10/more per year than my current 5 year old Titan.
Now, how could that be? Insurance is based on the "replacement" cost of the vehicle, isn't it?:confused:
Obviously besides the standard bodily injury items, but those items remain static across most vehicles.
I'm not complaining, since my insurance is only $850/year with full coverages and a low deductible.....I was just hoping someone could explain why my Titan would only be $10 cheaper.:confused::confused:
Harrison@Stage6 12-02-2009, 06:33 PM Most insurance companies also look at the safety of the car and also.... how much damage your car can do to another car. The GC is a safer ride than the Titan for sure.
CentralTexHemi 12-02-2009, 06:35 PM Yeah my insurance actually went down from my 05 Hemi Ram so this is not a shock to me

Thanks Harrison...I never thought of the damage you would do to other vehicles. That would make some sense.
On being a safer ride? I think I'd rather be in the Titan in any collision just due to the sheer size/weight of the vehicle, No? :thinkerg:

Was it a shock to you when you first heard your new rate over the Rams?
pjs1965 12-02-2009, 06:50 PM Insurance generally comes in 2 parts: medical liability and comprehensive collision.
Check your policies and see where the difference lies. I won't be surprised to see that it may be in the rate for collision. See for collision, they factor in the price of the parts to repair specific accidents not just total vehicle replacement costs. So it's possible that your Titan cost more to repair than the Jeep.
supabusa 12-02-2009, 07:02 PM My insurance dropped also. And I swapped a 05 Jeep GC Limited to a 07 SRT8. I've been told it also depends on the milage the average person puts on a particular vehicle per year. Most people don't use SRT's as a daily driver I guess.
eddiefig 12-02-2009, 08:28 PM I'm still on the fact that you pay $850/yr. Lol. I'm up around $1700/yr with Progressive. NJ sucks. My previous insurance co. (Allstate) wanted $7,000/yr for my GCSRT!! And that was with a clean driving record! I told them what they could do with that policy.
KingOfTheRoad09 12-02-2009, 09:06 PM i noticed to insurance on the beast isnt bad, im 20 with on my own policy and im 204 a month. Safety is a big thing so that seems right to me
Tyler 12-02-2009, 09:11 PM The truth behind it is, the insurance company doesn't realize the the SRT8 is a 420hp monster!
When I bought my TBSS, I actually questioned three agents and two supervisors as to how this was correct. I even told on myself by saying, "Sir, you realize the TBSS I am buying has a 400hp Corvette engine in it and is not a standard TB with a V8?" His response was, "No sir I am not aware of that nor is our company and because of that, we have quoted you accurate insurance rates."
I asked the same thing when I got an insurance quote on the SRT a few days ago. A little under 650/yr for 200K/500K/200K coverage and a $500 deduct.
SVT_GT500 12-02-2009, 09:14 PM Insurance also will go by the fact that its an SUV. Interesting enough the GT500 when I was looking for insurance I got quoted less on than a Mustang GT. Because mostly older people (no offense) buy the GT500 as their sunday car and they aren't crazy drivers that isn't much info on accidents or tickets etc. So many young kids have Mustang GT's and crash and get speeding tickets that the statistics show that it is a more dangerous car than the GT500. Since most people who buy a jeep aren't buying it to be fast or as a fun track car there isn't too many tickets or crashes compared to other vehicles.

Crookster777 12-02-2009, 09:49 PM Mine went up 40 per month when I updated my insurance to the SRT8 GC. Then again, I am only 20 so I was expecting that.
ROADRACINGSRT8 12-02-2009, 10:08 PM There are a bunch of factors that go into determing an insurance rate. Most of the major factors have been mentioned.
CentralTexHemi 12-03-2009, 08:57 AM Was it a shock to you when you first heard your new rate over the Rams?
Well its not listed as a sports car, its AWD, had way better safety features so I was a little but not much.
CentralTexHemi 12-03-2009, 08:59 AM Oh I pay roughly $80 a month for my coverage
Harrison@Stage6 12-03-2009, 01:03 PM My wife and I pay about $100.00/month for 100/300/100 for my Jeep and her Honda Van. Both of us are "safe drivers". She scares the hell outta me though.
Quickone.... the Titan is a 4/5 star safety rating where as the Jeeps are 5 star in all catagories. Also, does the Titan have side air bags like the Jeeps? We've all seen the pics of Dave's Jeeps flipping. Think the Titan could have handled that?
Blown-WK 12-03-2009, 01:12 PM Wow some of you guys pay out the ass for insurance. I'm in my early 20s and only pay $68/month. You guys need to do some more shopping around.

Alot of it though Chris has to do with what state they live in and what their limit's are too.:D

The rate has a lot to do where you live too. I moved into town from 10 minutes out of town and my rate went up 15%, even though I drive less and have a garage:confused:. There are more accidents in my current zip code then my old zip code which caused the rate increase. I shopped it around as well. IMO- there is no reason to pay more than $100 no mater your age, unless you have a bad driving record or live where there is more crime/accidents (which means you should move).
I can't wait to move back to the suburbs to save on my car insurance:D

Man, you guys suck. Lol. J/K. New Jersey sucks. I'm moving to Texas or Florida. Lol. I think by myself, I was paying $180/month. Now its $240ish/month for my wife and I. That on top of our car payments is why I work all the ovetime I can. ;)
drewlaws 12-03-2009, 06:46 PM I think mine dropped ~$600/year when I went went to the SRT from my 01 Bullitt.
JohnsonSRT8 12-03-2009, 07:05 PM Im under my parents still since im 18 and they pay $219 per 6 months so $438 per year on the the jeep lol.
JohnsonSRT8 12-03-2009, 08:58 PM LOL.......
I kno!!! i laughed when I asked them how much it was
KingOfTheRoad09 12-03-2009, 09:05 PM You should compare rates with The Farm Bureau. Could save you some coin. I am married and twice your age, but I am paying $279.00 for 100000/300000 full coverage every 6 months. You dont have to own or live on a farm, LOL
thanks buddy i will check it out. I wouldnt mind throwing a cow and maybe a corn crop in my backyard if it meant a better rate like yours:D
DCSpecial 12-03-2009, 09:09 PM I'm in my late 20s, and my Jeep is on my policy as my second vehicle so it gets a 34-65yr old rate and I pay around $53 a month for max coverage, safe driver discount, multi-policy (home and business) discount, etc..).
CentralTexHemi 12-03-2009, 10:28 PM thanks buddy i will check it out. I wouldnt mind throwing a cow and maybe a corn crop in my backyard if it meant a better rate like yours:D
Why not Spencer has some sheep in his backyard:D
bigwil 12-04-2009, 09:00 PM You guys need to keep quiet!
My agent must have no idea what SRT8's are either, and I don't want her to find out.
SHHHHHHH!
DCSpecial 12-04-2009, 09:42 PM My agent knows exactly what a SRT8 is as he's a car guy too. He rode in mine shortly after I got it, and I'm supposed to stop by next week to show him all the mods I've done :D.
Beyond 12-04-2009, 10:11 PM Geez i'm getting raped compared to all of you guys....$239 a month..full coverage/limited tort......but i guess thats not bad considering a speeding ticket and 2 accidents (not at fault)
