: Which Corvettes Can The Jeep SRT8 Beat?

Help me out... I have a couple of co-workers with Corvettes who are insisting that they will destroy my SRT8. One is a 2004 Convertible not a Z06, the other is a 2006 Corvette, not a Z06. Both of these have air intakes and Borla exhaust. Can I beat them?

The 06 will take you after about 80-100 if he can drive. He will be playing catch up. The convertible will be yours. I have taken a 03 non z06 from a 30 roll and kept pulling.

Remember you want a race from a dig. Any person you race will be in such shock of how you launched, they may not even get off the line!!!!

So I need to launch, and be sure the traction control is on?

Have the traction control in limited mode. Brake torque it at about 1000 rpm. You will leave the line like a bullet.

How do you place traction into limited mode?

Push the button:p

There is no full off on our traction control just a % decrease.

You wont win in the 1/4 mile with a decent vette driver, but you will kill them from a dig. Light to light you win hands down, 1/8 of the track its a drivers race. But either way that smirk they have before the race wont be there after the race, that I guarantee. Click the link and see.

Nice video... That Z06 owner was had to be crapping his pants worrying that you were going to beat him. Nice race you had his ass!

So let me ask you this. If I am racing these 2 guys what so I do for shifting? Launch using the manual stick, or launch using the auto stift mode?

I realize this doesn't help with your question but I was just in miami and I rented a Z06 and let me tell you that thing is just balls to the wall unbelieveable on the highway. I also rented a porsche turbo and it doesn't even compare, although the porsche had a better feeling like it was glued to the road, the Corvette's V8 is just silly. here's some pics...

Both of those vettes are capable of a 12 second pass, if you are not running for money just line 'em up and have some fun, and stay away from the highway, they will kill you from a roll.

Ditto on that that...remember the Jeep is "aerodynamically challenged" at higher speeds, any sports car over 100 m.p.h with 350 h.p+ will be a problem for the GC. Stay the course, stop light to stop light recognition, or the guys that won't go over 90 m.p.h to race!

So I need to launch, and be sure the traction control is on?

I found my best times are with TC off and in auto stick.... not "D". I have a '06 and the best launches were not power braking either, just stomp and go. The last time I ran there was noticeable differences between "D".
I have not had any TSB's for shifting so that might make a difference. I do notice issues with it kicking down, but never really felt it bouncing off the rev' limiter.

My best time so far is a 13.213 totally stock.

I can't beat the black 06 Corvette convertible that raced me on Saturday morning in four different locations on the way into Toronto. First spotted him at a four way stop sign leaving my house. He followed me onto a south bound road headed to 407 toll highway. He roared by me when someone made a right into a plaza in front of me and then he pulled in front revving his motor several times. Car did not sound stock at all - very loud and had a custom exhaust that was shaped like two opposing triangles - never seen anything like it. I was behind him at last stop light leading to 407 when he rolls down his window (soft top was up) and flicks his half lit cigarette backward and bounces it off the hood of my GCSRT8.
What the **ck?
Light turns green and he takes off tires smoking onto the 407 on ramp. I'm dissatisfied with the manner of his challenge and also happen to be headed onto the 407 and am close behind - I can only guess he is shocked I am anywhere nearby let alone in his rear view mirror still. Highway is free and clear and we are in the left lane of four lanes going like stink except for a black Mercury Marauder ahead which he takes for a stealth cop car and slams on the binders and pulls one lane to the right. I take the opportunity to pull up beside him at speed and laugh at him. His side windows are too dark to see anything however and I tromp on it right by the Mercury which is in lane 3 from the left. The vet sees me roar by the Marauder and realizes his error but he is way back now and I'm getting off the highway to head down the 404 going south figuring the fun is over. The turn off for the 407 to the 404 is fifth lane over from the left and I'm well into when I see this vette out of the corner of my eye. He sweeps across all four lanes and just makes it in front of me before he runs out of highway ( I let up quite frankly because I thought he sure is cutting this close). I follow on his tale onto the 404 south and we hit it hard onto the entry ramp. At the merge point he suddenly sweeps across all five lanes and onto to the HOV lane (you need two passengers in your car). I let him go as I am by myself and know the cops patrol for offenders.
About 3 miles down the road I run across him again as he is now just cruising along I pull up on his right and look over and the window rolls down. Out pops the head of what looks like a twelve year old girl who gives me the thumbs up as Dad floors it again and disappears again into the distance.
Hope they make it to her high school graduation and I bet no one tells Mom.

Ya that will have to do for now. My neighbor has a silver 2005 Z06 as well. I will wait until I get the turbo installed (and I don't plan to tell him) before I talk trash. There is also an 06 M5 down the street that is modded that has been making menacing sounds. It too will require a bigger stick than my stock (Mopar CAI with K&N filter) jeep can currently deliver.

Let them put two Tri bikes on their roof the way I do though!:D

yes, the rental company was originally based out of Boston, I think they were in Newton. I suppose the owner didn't feel like paying sales tax again!

Actually it sounds like you're not the experienced in racing this thing, many members have posted better times by leaving from idle with the tranny in Autostick (after the TSB flash, of course) and the traction control off. Brake torquing the drivetrain has created slower times.

I saw another black Marauder at Kennedy and 407 off ramp yesterday afternoon. Had a great sound system in it. You? I had my wife and Mom in the Jeep coming back from the theatre so no foolishness allowed. I also saw that Vette again on Kennedy Road so he lives around here. It sounds real nasty.
