: Wider tires?
ekool 02-21-2006, 12:47 PM One thing I've always liked to do to my vehicles is put wider tires on.. on an AWD car, its not so much as an issue but it does help traction and visual appearance as well IMHO.
So, I've been thinking about what the widest tire we might be able to squeeze in without significant modification... anyone have any ideas?
We have a good photo in the gallery thanks to idealrides uploading a good picture:

It just doesnt look like there is much clearance... anyone look at this in more detail yet?

ekool 02-21-2006, 09:35 PM Mike,
Just double check to be sure that the overall diameter of the tire is EXACTLY the same or you'll start burnin up center diffs!
4DRHTRD 02-21-2006, 10:50 PM Been doing them for years on Impala's...

idealrides 02-21-2006, 11:22 PM I ordered Toyo S/T 265 front and 295 rear, although they're just 1 cm wider, the big difference is they are 1.3 inches taller, and they're not runflat, so I expect the ride to be much smoother. And aesthetically wise that fender gap should be much more acceptable.
I will be shaving down that bolt you see in the picture, even though according to my measurements it will still clear, just for safety I think it's a good idea.
They should be here next week. :)

gcdcsteve 02-22-2006, 07:27 PM anyone put 22's on yet
idealrides 02-23-2006, 09:19 AM I just had my SRT undercoated and when it was up on the lift I really checked out under the car.
The bad news is that the rear swaybar endlinks are VERY close to the sidewall on the rear tires. Basically there's no way to fit significantly wider tires without installing wheel spacers or getting new rims with a more aggressive offset.

Toyo's would be my first choice as well. They offer superior ride and traction in wet and dry. :D

Did you get your Toyo's installed yet, if so please provide pics. These rides could definately use some taller tires to fill the fender wells.

Just curious, will you be carrying anytype of tire repair kit or spare? I debating what to do, leave stock or go bigger forged wheel.
idealrides 03-30-2006, 05:08 PM just got the toyo's installed today, i'll post a new thread with some pictures.
After seeing how big these things are when they're not on the car, I have no immediate plans to carry a spare, it would take up a lot of room in the trunk. I think I'll just get a can of fix-a-flat and hope for the best.
