I'm in the process of replacing my front Isolators as one is broken. Has anyone replaced these or even inspected them to see if they are broken?

I'm not sure what isolators are, but I have some strange clanking up front leading me to believe somethings wrong.

muellege and jeep trick have posted about this too......

there are 3 isolators on the front diff. its rather difficult install so best to replace all 3 if you need one......

george also posted how he saw this. but I think it required jeep on lift

I'm sending one to a company here in Florida to make an upgraded isolator so we do not have to keep replacing them every 6 months. I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem.

Thanks Ted I guess missed that thread. For modded Jeeps just replacing these will not do as they will continue to fail. I should have the new ones back within a month or so.

I crawled under the Jeep last night and confirmed that the upper bushing is toast. The bottom two are still pristine, but I might as well change them all out together. :(

I'll take a photo with the wife's Christmas present next time I'm under the Jeep.

Keep us posted. That is awesome you are looking into a "better" isolator.

Thanks

in other thread, suggested to fill gaps with windshield adhesive, which cures to perfect consistency, may be one way to beef them up some. A solid piece might be another way to beef up the one that keeps failing.

Not from me. I am still trying to locate retail windshield adhesive (not by the half gallon tube) to squirt into the gaps. May just get the 3M stuff via interneten. It cures hard as hell and should firm it up some. I wonder if a pure solid will just move the "break" down the driveline, or just move the power down the line.

i beleive you want the 3M Window Weld, they have a caulk tube size its about 15-20 at NAPA, if you have those near you......

We've got a warehouse hub and storefront about 10 minutes away. Will give them a look. They usually have the hard to find things, like odd sized belts, etc.

Tks for suggestion.

I bought a tube of it the other day but I can't figure out how too apply the stuff without taking the Jeep apart.

I just got a quote to have all three isolators replaced. I wasn't very happy to hear $708. :( I guess I'll have to find a way to do it myself.

My mechanic only charged me I believe $200 for install and the two bushings are like $25.00 a piece from the dealer. So $250.00 for the rear and passenger side bushing. The front center is different than the other two, I think it can be replaced by just unbolting it. It looked fine and also was on national backorder.

Also I had him install them in a 12 & 6 o'clock position instead of the 9 & 3 o'clock that it came with from the factory. Seems like it would have more travel in the 9 & 3 with any axle twist that might occur.

Is Rainbow CDJ in Covington really expensive?

FWIW, you'll need a press to get them out, and the labor tends to revolve around remove and reinstalling the front diff from the car to access the press with the diff, so have some good ramps or access to a lift, with some jackstands. Hard to get around the time. Just had it done. Warranty helps, but DIY with a good press ought to work.

For squirting the stuff in there, just get under the car and look for the grooves and fill them up. Some have suggested that you tape up one side to keep fill from moving out of opening.

Jeep, that's a good deal. They are mounted in a "bracket" that bolts, but they can get stubborn.

thought about using the unused billet spacer from my eibachs as stock to make a solid one. Could probably get 2 out of it if you had a stock bushing to model.

I think they are, but you'll need to check with dealer on that.
Here's an interesting little write up on it.
Dealer retail is now around $32.00, but a google search by part number will turn up some on the net for about half that.

I wonder if these PNs are used on all the Dana axle housings.... if so, the Jeep Speed guys may be interested in using a more robust design.

Chris this is a common problem on high HP jeeps. Mine was broken in 2007, was replaced by HemiTuner before it was sold.
