When I was at the dealer, they offered the 3 years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance. I was thinking that at 3000 miles, you're getting 12 services @ ~$50 each. ($600) Not bad, but not great.
Then I asked what recommended oil changes were in the SRT8...
Every 6,000 miles? So now take your $600 and drop it to $300 over 3 years.
Consumables like tires, brakes and wiper blades aren't included.

So, does anyone go that long between oil changes?
After hearing that,I was thinking 5,000 miles would be the longest I go.

I would say it depends on how you drive it. granny=5k-6k like you stole it=3k. I do my GC every 3k,My Challenger=3k. my jag is 10k or once a year per manufactuer.

Whoa! You need to rethink your math here. Last oil change I had at the dealership was $92 and it was at 2100 miles from the previous oil change. The GCSRT8 will tell you when to get oil changes through the EVIC based on your driving.

36k miles divided by 3000 mile avg = 12 oil changes x 92 = $1104!

OK, now add in a Transfer Case fluid change or two (the fluid alone is over $100!) and it starts to add up. I'd get something in writing from them on service schedule. Use this info on WKJEEPS.COM (http://wkjeeps.com/wk_maintenance.htm) as a guide.

Unfortunately, it goes by their schedule...Not yours. that is where they screw you.
You're paying $92 for an oil change?

Per this link, which is what "They" will probably base their "Scheduled" maintenance on is what I was going off of.

Only 6 "Scheduled" services between 0 - 36,000 miles.

Won't hurt to ASK for oil changes per the EVIC. It doesn't follow their schedule either :D

And yes, $92! It was $74 on my HEMI Limited. I may have to do my own from now on.

I agree. The transfer case fluid change will help with the figures...But I would definitely want them to agree to the EVIC. If so, then that's a good deal.

WOAH... They will exclude SRT8's I'm betting. When you check the recommended maintenance schedule on these things you will see that oil changes with Mobil 1 are usually $90=100 and unless the dealer contract specifies differently you should be using the schedule for extreme conditions which applies in most parts of the country due to weather changes, etc. More importantly, Differentual lube changes are required at 15k miles @300+ for both, Transfer Case at 15k @ $250, Transmission at 30k, @ $2-300, spark plugs at 30k @$250+, etc. you get the idea. Do your homework before you agree to anything.

I also have the 9 oil change maintenance package. Of course the dealer included it in the purchase price (and I know for a fact the could not take it from anywhere but the holdback).

I normally drive about 12,000 miles a year, which is 4 oil change a year. I will not wait until 6,000 miles. My dealer sent me a coupon for buying as well, so in 3yr I have 10 oil changes to use. I used the first @2,500 miles and I will use them every 4,000 miles thereafter.

On edit: There were many packages available. I just made sure mine included at least 3 oil changes per year. I figured if I do drive 15,000 miles that means more a highway and I could go up to 5,000 between changes.

Hey I was wondering about your spark plug comment... I think according to jeep owners manual the spark plugs are 60k, where did u get 30k from?

i bought the "gold plan plus" for my 2008 WK (diesel engine). They said 10 oil changes are "free", I can use them up whenever I want. So if I felt like getting oil changed every month for 10 months, regardless of mileage, they would do it. Not sure if the dealer quoted you a similar plan to mine or not, just sayin'. :)

I drive mine like I stole it(road courses) and don't change until 5000 plus I get my oil analyzed and they are recommending trying 6000. I can post up my last analysis if anybody wants to read.
Here is the thread. http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31931&highlight=oil

Dealer confirmed:
"An oil change is roughly $95, the EVIC indicator is honored as proof of needing an oil change, we don't do the transfer case fluid change often enough for him to know right awaysince the service interval for that is 30K miles."

So, if this is the case, I would expect the value of the Free Service to be: ~$1,200 based on 4,000 mile intervals and the transfer case fluid change.

Based on dealer pricing for an oil change, yeah. That sounds about right. Not a bad value if you ask me. Better than getting $500 off the price :D
