I have had an issue twice in the past month with my break lights staying on. When I bought the rig this summer, the previous owner had replaced the taillights/break lights with blacked out LEDs. When I brought the car to Westbury Jeep the 1st time, they said it was a broken taillight/break switch under the dash, had no idea what caused it, but let me know I will have a problem making a warranty claim, if I ever need to, b/c the new lights void the warranty for any electrical problems. The new switch was replaced for free (they're really cool like that), and all was good. Fast forward to the next rainy day, and boom, the lights are on again out of nowhere. This time, I caught it too late, my battery was toast and the car wouldn't start. The lights were stuck on again, and its got to be the switch.
Now for my real problem. There was a leak, apparently, b/c I noticed under my brake pedal was a little puddle after the rain. The same thing happened last time, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Turning out that the sunroof leaked, and the water comes down the A pillar and goes to the electrics/fuse panel, etc. under the dash, which is ridiculous. The rain was obviously the culprit with the switch, not the new LEDs.
The service folks, who are always nice, are saying (not definitively) that battery and any other electrical problems the rain caused still may not be covered under the warranty.
I think that Chrysler will still have to pay me on the claim b/c though I understand the aftermarket lights can be a problem, the issue in this case was the leak, clearly. Not sure they'll see it that way. I think its the same thing with an aftermarket exhaust, right? Technically, your warranty is void if you replace your exhaust, as we have each done, but in reality, they can't not pay us on a piston problem, for example, b/c the exhaust would have nothing to do with it. If there is a problem that is directly related to the exhaust being replaced, than fine. But for any unrelated issue, the warranty needs to still be good, right?
What do you guys think? They haven't told me anything yet definitively, but I am just a little nervous and want to run it by you folks.
Thanks, guys!
