: Need help w/ infant seat in the SRT8GC please
sy1616 11-15-2009, 09:39 AM My wife is due in March and today while cleaning her SRT8 GC I noticed there is not LATCH set up (not tether strap) in the center seat, only on the two outside positions. Did I overlook something? I want my child in the center and won't compromise on that. What do/did you guys with kids do? Owners manual states all three seats have the LATCH system but then shows a drawing showing only the two outside seats (confirming reality).
Help please!
Thank you!
Newfiebullet 11-15-2009, 10:04 AM Whats latch are you talking about? is it for the teather strap? if so thats for forward facing not rear, you just use the seat belt for rear facing. We have had our son rear facing since he was born with no problems passing RCMP baby seat checks.

sorry i am talking about the two anchors at the bottom (into frame of truck).
Newfiebullet 11-15-2009, 10:39 AM Do you know what type of car seat you are buying? most are just held down with just the seat belt, no teather straps for rear facing its aganist the law in Canada.

WS6TA 11-15-2009, 01:20 PM Congrats on the addition to your family. I often tell people the Jeep is the fastest vehicle you can put a car seat in.:D
Depending on what infant seat you buy you will be using the seat belt to hold it down. We had one that the base stays in the car and the actual seat part comes out. We always had this in the middle and used the seat belt to attach. It was very tight and would not budge. The base in the car is much easier to use, just buy a base for each car and the seat snaps right in. I have not tried in the Jeep, but normally the seat belt will lock in place once you pull it all the way out and feed it back in slowly.
Also, once your new child gets old enough for an actual car seat, you will not want it in the middle anymore. My wife actually made me put it on the passenger side, because my son was too heavy to put it in the middle. He is/was only in the 50th percentile for weight and 90 percentile for height, so he is not a "fat" baby.
The car seats for older (i.e. 1yr+) are held down by these metal brackets as the seat belts would not do a good job to hold the car seat down.
Hope this helped.
mrkrabs318 11-15-2009, 01:21 PM there is no teather strap for rear facing seats. they are only for foward facing seats behind the passenger and drivers sides. rear facing seats are held in by the center seatbelt only.
sy1616 11-15-2009, 03:26 PM thanks guys, I now know what to do :)
LonghornSpencer 11-15-2009, 04:00 PM I used the inside latch from each seat to get it done...until our 2nd arrived
congrats on the addition!
1BAMFR 11-15-2009, 04:43 PM He will be an infant...So he will be in a rear facing seat with a carseat that snaps into a base. Anchor down the base with the 2 straps and you can use the seatbelt for added safety.
When he's ready to face forward...Use the same 2 anchors and also anchor the seat down using the anchor system on the trunk area. (behind the rear seats)
Joe Las Vegas 11-19-2009, 01:17 PM Just don't step on it too hard or you'll break his neck.

This is not true as I have had my son's car seat in my 10. :D

Unless your 10 has some serious work (and street slicks), I am pretty sure the Jeep will be faster.:D The beauty of AWD:bigthumb:
I have always loved the crew cab SRT10, except living where it snows makes it not practical to own.

eh, actually this is a terrible idea, common, but still terrible and unsafe. Most peeps would think added restraint equals added safety. This is not the case in seat belts.
Seatbelt are designed to "give" a certain percent, something like 20% as to help absorb the impact in the straps, not on the occupant.
Any carseat safety adviser will tell you ONLY use one type of restraint or the other, thus allowing the single restraint to do the job properly.
