: Is condensation in a fog light a problem?

I noticed some condensation in my driver's side fog light the day after washing my cherokee.

I'm not clear if this is something I should have the dealer look at or is condensation after washing a pretty normal occurence? I haven't taken a fog light apart before, so I'm guessing they are not sealed units.

They are supposed to be sealed, you have a leak somewhere in the housing. It could burn out the bulb and eventually it will peel the reflectiveness off the instide of the housing.

darn, thanks guys. I'm getting tired of trips to the dealer, seems I'm there every week, parts/labour are covered but I have to take time to go there and get the work done.

I'm off to the dealer on Friday, when I called to explain the problem and book the appointment, the service advisor told me this may not be covered by my warranty (new vehicle purchased in March this year with the Gold Plus Plan extended warranty), I didn't want to argue with him, but I would expect it to be covered, he told me its a $200 item if its not covered.

Hey SuzyQ.....Screw the dealer, they are worthless to deal with!

I just bought 2 fog lights off ebay with bulbs and brackets for like 60 bucks. You can install them yourself in 20 min. They have 2 screws behind the light.

Very easy and quick install

BUT.......If they DO decide to replace it under warranty.... take em:)

Same here leaked on my '06 and my '08 and I even purchased a second set on my '08 and they fogged up. I could not believe it! I am not driving in hurricanes either...

So I drilled a 1/16" hole maybe smaller at the very bottom center of the front of the lens and it never fogged up again. Did that a year ago and not one problem driving in rain and I even have had HID's put in over 9 months ago.

thanks guys, I think my dealer is getting as tired of me as I'm tired of them.

I'm going to take it in and confirm its covered under warranty. The problem is that they have to order every part and that takes a couple days so I literally have to go in once a week with issues.

I also wanted my radio amplifier reprogrammed as part of tsb 08-025-08, since it loses all volume periodically. My fear is they will bugger it up further, and result in another trip to the dealer. :(

fog light replaced today, under warranty, though they said they could not see any condensation, I now wonder if they really replaced it and instead just told me they replaced it, any other times I've been in for service they wouldn't have any parts in stock, strange how they had a fog light in stock, hmmm, guess I will watch for condensation to appear again.

did the tsb too, all seems good for now.
