Actually a friend restored an old link with a bunch of my Trans Am sound system pics. The car was an IASCA SQ competition car and the project was a full tear down/ground up (even all of the glass was removed).
This car was done when I wasn't making much money at all, throwing every extra dime I had into it, working on it in the evenings when I got off work and on weekends. It was also my primary car and I was without wheels (bumming rides) for more than 6 months. I also had a lot of help from a shop in Encino called Traffic Jamz who also worked on the car during their after hours.
In any event it is something that I was and still am proud of and wanted to share.

Thanks! There were some issues though. The vacuum tubes would heat the interior up to 105 degrees in no time at all and I would estimate that I added almost 600lbs even though we did try to put most of the weight directly over rear axle.
There was some pretty trick stuff going on for its time. We retained full steering wheel controls using a remote IR sending unit, the front mid drivers (5/14) were custom built prototypes with a "front pole mounted magnet structure" allowing a 1.5" mounting depth, the phase controllers in the airbag were all hardwired from the back of the car, the interior was essentially rebuilt.

The car did very well in competition (I was competing 600+ amatuer class, not "pro") the car only took one 2nd place (without tuning) and took 1st at every other show we attended. I eventually ran out of money and needed to stop competing. It was very expensive to stay on top of.

AMAZING! That setup would still be considered top rate today man. Incredible.
Did you sell the car with the system? Or part it out? I'd imagine parting it out would yeild a greater return on your investment.

Mango,
I ended up selling the car a couple of years later to a close friend who wanted to "bring it back". My job had moved me to Vancouver BC for a few years so the car sat in storage.
When I got back to LA the car needed a very thorough run through, tires, brakes, shocks, batteries, etc,etc, etc. Also, a close friend needed a car very badly at the time so I let the whole thing go for $2500. My thinking was whatever the actual value of that car (not including system) minus the $$ required to get it back on the road and it was better than the car just sitting there.
Parting it out may have gotten me a little more money but the real "costs" were in the installation, not the equipment.

Aint that the truth...And in the time spent....I have more time invested in thinking of the designs than in the actual building of the stuff....I have plenty of times where I can get it done quickly...But I have OCD about getting a design where I will have the best of all worlds..
EDIT:::::: VERY NICE!!

I've always been too nervous to put much of a system in my vehicles due to the chance of theft. Looks great though.
