: Full Day of running at the BIC
NitroCrzy 03-24-2007, 11:42 AM Well, I sure had fun tearing up my SRT. I spent all day on the Grand Prix track at Bahrain's International Circuit.
In the afternoon session another SRT came in for a run.... :)

NitroCrzy 03-24-2007, 11:49 AM I played a bit too hard though.... after all said and done... I think I should replace the tires and I totally burned off the brake pads.
It was on the squeakers when I finished the day.
These things drive like race cars but coming off the straight and trying to make turn 1... well, its still a heavy beast that is hard to get stopped. Several times I misjudged and slid right off the track. Brakes never failed and that was the one complaint the instructors all said over and over again. People don't realize how hard the track is on brakes... some get the fun of hitting the brakes and nothing. I never worried about my brakes the whole day but did find if I ran hard and parked... the oil or whatever would boil and I'd have to pump em a few times to get the brakes back. Once on the track... never did worry about the brakes.
The drag racing the night before got postponed so they held it the same day as the track... :)

NitroCrzy 03-24-2007, 11:55 AM My SRT ran 13.2's all night.
The only runs higher were when I forgot to turn traction control off or didn't do the auto stick.
13.213 @ 103 mph was my best time but I also got
13.266 @ 102 mph
13.246 @ 102.96 mph
13.297 @ 102 mph
Street WK 03-24-2007, 12:02 PM looks like someone had a blast!!!
NitroCrzy 03-24-2007, 12:15 PM That's for sure!

NitroCrzy 03-25-2007, 12:26 PM Grant J.... hooked me up with some vid of the track....
Thanks Grant.... hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did. Just got to get someone to hold a vid cam instead of a cell phone...

HoustonSRT-8 03-26-2007, 09:47 AM Looks like fun! Beautiful track.
NitroCrzy 03-26-2007, 11:18 AM My buddies at BDRC (Bahrain Drag Racing Club) hooked me up with a couple vid's from the drag racing that night!
The first vid, I beat a 10 sec car.... on the second run, you can see he broke at the end beating me the second time around
Be beating a 10 sec car.... (http://thebukers.net/tmp/nitrocrazy.wmv)
In the second vid.... I get totally killed by a 9 second Corvette

(in case you don't already know) You're going to want to flush your brake fluid, if this is something you plan to do get a high temp fluid. At the very least you need to bleed your brakes!
Anyhow sounds like fun. I'm going to have to talk my brother into letting me throw his jeep around some curves :D

Nice consistent runs!
That Vette is sick!

NitroCrzy 04-02-2007, 10:58 AM Some more footage of my day at the track.... thanks to my buddies at the BDRC.

3ajeeeb what do u have to do to get the track to urself like that?
NitroCrzy 04-17-2007, 01:15 AM BIC is setup very well. They break up everyone into groups and give each group 20 mins to do the course every hour. Only problem is they refuse to allow transponders despite what the website says. :D
so are there special days that the track is open? transponders?

National race days are the days to go....
Keep an eye out on Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) (http://www.bahraingp.com.bh/)
You will need a class "D" license which can be obtained at BMF (http://www.bmf.com.bh/) for around 20BD. They also have their own calendar of events.
You need to make sure your tires are appropriate and have a racing helmet.
Open track days are the only ones where you can do the full BIC formula track. During the CRC events, you use the inner track which is a little easier on the brakes and always timed.
Their site is CRC (Championship Racing Club) (http://forums.crcbahrain.com/)
Dareu 04-18-2007, 01:29 PM that's some good legal racing like that
NitroCrzy 04-26-2007, 04:24 AM I'm a little disappointed in last nights times... I was really hoping to get into the 12's. I consistantly ran 13.3's all night. The middle scan is one of the runs with the new 2008 Porshe Cayenne
still can't believe the Porshe got me.....

Nitro,
Do you use a 170 thermostat?
Any CAI?
We need for you to smoke the Porshe!
Are you hooking up ok?....I drop the psi to 26psi rear for better traction.
Bill
NitroCrzy 04-26-2007, 05:21 PM Nope... no 170*.... apparently Saudi and surrounding countries have no need for a low temp thermostat. I'm having to wait until I make a trip back to the states. Another problem is I don't hook up very well. The export edition wheels are 8" all the way around... Pirelli PZero Scorpion run flats.... mine are almost bald....
The dude with the 2008 Cayenne was driving a BMW tonight.... Ran a 12.5. Tomorrow is the actual drag championships.... I seem to have my own class....
NitroCrzy 06-03-2007, 02:50 AM Well I finally replaced my stock Pirelli PZero Scorpion runflats. They were completely trashed and one even started to buldge..
The tires on the Jeep are now Goodyear F1 Supercar 245/45ZR/20's. These are the non runflat version of the Goodyears. The track didn't have any qualms about these tires like they did the Pirelli's.
The weather was a scorching 98*F with extremely high humidity. Saudi was 109*. Amazing the difference Bahrain has in temps on the same day.
First practice I did 9 laps until I boiled my brakes and lost them. 2nd practice I was leary because I didn't want to lose my brakes again and only did 3 laps. I managed to overheat the motor though. I noticed my coolant is very cloudy and I suspect not flushed on my last service.... Going to watch temps very closely from here on in.
Overall, I like the ride of the Pirelli's a lot better. They felt better on the track too. The Goodyears are showing the wear just as quickly, if not a little quicker. These are going to be my track tires and wheels now due to the damage on the rims from having the tires replaced plus curb rashes. When I go back to the states I'll pick up new wheels US spec'd.
In the end of the CRC event I took 2nd place..... 2nd to a Z06 Corvette with racing slicks and crew.... not too bad considering I'm in a truck. It's the end of the season and a bit too hot these days so that is probably my last track event until later in the year.
I also hit the drag strip. I was really hoping to pull better times after having the shifting TSB applied. It feels strong to me and the tires are lighter than the Pirelli's. I managed a very disappointing 13.6 all night with my best time a 13.533 @ 100mph... Probably the heat :(
in order:
13.641 @ 101mph
13.686 @ 101mph
13.661 @ 101mph
13.744 @ 100mph forgot to auto stick.. left in "D"
13.533 @ 101mph Tried power braking... maybe TSB?
13.656 @ 100mph also power braking so ????
awdrocks 06-03-2007, 11:31 AM Yeah thats some HOT weather to be racing in. Your computer prob nudged back some timing. Spray some meth/water... I bet it does you wonders. I don't like the idea of relocating the IAT sensor to trick the computer that the air is colder than it really is... Just doesn't sound like a right combo to trick your computer to advance timing when in reality the air is hot!!! Sounds like a ****tail for degnation to me. I think you could also benefit from the cooler t-stat.
I would throw on the smallest light drag wheels that your brakes will allow and a tall sideway on some street/strip slicks. Much lighter and better traction.
I think if you do the above mods you will nudge 12's.
Good luck.
