: Cracked front rim

Over the past few days I've had a slow leak develop in my RF wheel. It drops about 8Lbs over night, although it never goes below 28... Figured it was a nail/bad stem or something along those lines. Took it to my local Goodyear and they diagnosed the problem as a cracked rim  It seems the rim cracked in the middle and does not appear to be caused by a pothole or anything similar, IE. the wheel is still straight...

My Jeep is an 06' with a tad over 36k on the clock (although 3yr warranty was up in April 09). I picked up the extended 'Maximum Care' warranty when purchased. Turns out the wheel is considered a wear item and is not covered. After getting forwarded to Jeeps Customer Assistance Center my case is being considered for good will coverage. This is pending the crack is considered a defect... Good news I guess...

ANYWAY. Can you repair these wheels?? If not, why?

Anybody have a spare they are looking to sell, I'm not looking to break the bank by any means. Am I missing any options out there to remedy the situation?

Thanks for reading,
Ryan

In order to crack a one piece forged aluminum wheel you would of had to hit something HARD if not it's a defective wheel especially if its cracking from where you say it is. I'm not sure how it can be fixed nor would I want a knock off these wheels are expensive but nice and are light.

I can honestly say that I have not hit a pothole since I've owned the Jeep. Roads are fairly decent around my area... (Odd in PA!!!)

They know its a defect I'm sure if you had actually hit something that hard to crack that rim your tire would of been toast.

I'm hoping the dealer will reach this conclusion as well! A new rim is over $1500!!!!!!

I'm going to pick the Jeep up at Goodyear in a little bit so they'll be able to explain in a bit more detail what they found. Goes into the dealership tomorrow...

The new ones will not match your 06 I think the finish is different and have that aloca forged stamp on them ( i think-could be wrong) find some on ebay.

In January I had a similar issue. I was losing air slowly and when I went to get the flat fixed it turned out my left front rim was cracked. Never hit a pothole and it appeared to be a defect in the wheel. I got the wheel tig welded and it's been fine. I bought a spare wheel from a member just in case the wheel did not hold up. I got it for $350.00 so I'm sure you can get a good deal on here.

I don't see why can you get it repaired, there are plenty of places that fixes rims now a days. I had two rims on my subaru cracked and got them fixed for $150 each. Just search on google for local wheel repair places. Most of them you can just bring your wheel with tire and they will fix it and mount the tire back up.

dont know if this might help

i had a crack in both front wheels and when the dealership contacted chrysler ie warranty they said they would not cover them

i called them direct and kicked off saying i wanted one of their inspectors to go to the dealership and take a look at them

this he did and then agreed to replace both of them under warranty

i am in UK an this was under original warranty and not extended

hope this helps

Where are you located? Some places you find will even let you ship the rim to them. Thats if you can spare the Jeep for a few days.

Thanks for the lead on Ebay... Unfortunately it seems that the wheel has a bit more curb rash than I'm willing to accept. I do want to remedy the situation the correct way. Anybody else selling a front wheel that is in great condition??

I used this outfit up near Allentown to fix a bent RF rim (good old PA pothole) on my 06. Nice work, easy and fast http://www.wheelcollision.com/index.html worth a try.
