Hi There,
I was going to wait until the 2008 SRT8 model came out to get the darker slate interior, HID lights, and MyGig Nav, and interior quality improvements.
HOWEVER, after visiting a couple dealers, I have heard mixed information on the 2008's.
1) they will be limited production to Canada so tough on negotiating.
2) they will be subject to 4,000 gas guzzler tax.
I found a dealership that has a 2007 black SRT8 in transit which has everything I would get if I did order a 2007.
They are willing to negotiate whatever the hell that means (I am supposed to go in tomorrow and talk to them).
My question to you Americans and Canadians is this:
1) What have you guys in Canada negotiated on these trucks from MSRP ? I need some leverage with the sales guy.
2) Is it worth it to go to the 2007 to save money on this tax and have the possibility of not geetting one?
3) These interior quality improvements - how dramatic will they really be on the 2008's ?
4) Can this Champion Jeep dealership be of assistance to people in Canada ? The list price on a 2007 GC SRT8 in Canada fully loades is 58,395 Canadian Dollars. I heard if I land one from the states Chrysler Canada will not warranty it.
Thanks for your help. Cheers.

Sorry to hear about your predicament. I thought mine was bad trying to decide between 2008 and 2009 (6.4l). Personally, 2007 was never part of my equation since 2008 model is right around the corner with fairly signficant upgrades - named above. I guess if saving money is your priority, I'd go with used 2006/2007. If you are buying new, I'd go with 2008.

Hopefully this will be of some help.
I bought mine through one of the dealerships we do business with and ordered in October 2006. The truck came in right before Christmas when most of the 2007's were just starting to arrive. Since I have seen a few here and there at some of the biggest dealers in Toronto and yesterday I saw a new black 2007 in the showroom at Scarborotown Chrysler. I was shocked to see one in stock anywhere, but when I asked, it had been in the showroom for 2 hours. This makes more sense. Looked great in there though. (no SRT door sills)
The $4,000 gas tax is a big deterrent and you could do many of your own improvements with this money so I would not hesistate to go with 2007. The nav works great and while touchscreen would be my choice, its no big deal really. HID headlights can be obtained for somewhere between $200 and $500 depending on the brand, so this is no big deal. You cannot get projector headlights yet for our trucks, but everyone is saying that the reflector headlight assemblies that our trucks come with accept an HID conversion very well.
I bought mine through one of the dealers we do business with - Ontario Chrysler, and dealt with the GM directly. I got $2,000 off list. You might be able to do a bit better now that the 2007's are out, but I doubt much more than $1,000 one way or another. Most dealers know they will sell these and since only about 160 come to Canada each model year, there is not a lot of incentive for a dealer to discount them.
Once you own the truck, you will not think about $1,000 one way or another because you will just be glad you have it. Especially since this is a near $60,000 Cdn vehicle and not a Chevy Cavalier or something for under $20,000. $1,000 either side becomes much less relevant.
Hope this helps and if you want black, call Scarborotown - 416-298-7600 and ask them for a price. Good luck.

has to do with the manufacture date. As long as the truck was built before the legislation, should be ok.

Sorry Guys,
The gas tax is in effect NOW. Any vehicle recieved into the dealer from now on is subject to the tax. They're not sure how they will deal with it though, because the manufacturer has to pay the tax and they will probably roll it into the cost and pass it onto us.
I know of a dealer in the west end that has accepted delivery and is preparing to put the truck out. I was just there on Friday. Let me know and I will get you in touch with the salesperson. I get prefered treatment there and If the truck is there, I can get it for you. None of this wait and see who bids on it. They are, however, asking full list for it. It's loaded with rear seat DVD.

...they will be limited production to Canada so tough on negotiating.
Typical salesman BS story...
The levy applied to new vehicles delivered by manufacturers to dealers after March 19, 2007, so if a dealer received the vehicle before that then the tax does not apply. If the vehicle you mentioned is "in transit" then the tax is going to apply. I would WAIT for the 2008 model and GET WHAT YOU WANT.
