: SRT Track Experience...worth it or not?

I am one of three family members that enjoy stuff like this. Last year, I attended the MB Experience at O'reilly raceway park in Indy as a guest since my father took the plunge for an AMG. This year since I bought the SRT-8 I have the opportunity to take him and my brother at my cost as a driver thru the SRT track experience at O'reilly park. I think this would be a hoot as a "father/son" thing, and kinda of a payback for last year. Anyone want to chime in on their experience at the track with the Richard Petty crowd.
Thanks.

I did it on Feb 24 at Texas Motor Speedway. It was a blast!. I put a write up about it along with some photos, etc on my website below.

I just got back from Atlanta Motor Speedway and the SRT Experience. All I can say is WOW! Any question I had about how the Jeep stacks up with the other srt's is now put to rest. All the instructors talked about was how "bad ass" the jeep was. On the drag strip portion the jeep killed everything else, period.

Good deal...thanks for the responses. I am looking forward to having a great day at the track with my Dad and brother in September. It's funny how MB and the SRT team have multiple vehicles to demo at these events. Where is GM, anyone?! And I say that as a three time corvette owner!

What can I say, looking forward to a fun day at the track!

Cheers!

That is good to hear, I signed myself and my wife up for June 2nd in Vegas and while I'm excited, I'm not looking forward to being in a Viper in Vegas when it's 115 degrees.

I went to Texas Motor Speedway on Feb 25 and had an GREAT time! The only part for me that wasn't as cool as I thought it should be was the Drifting module with the Vipers. It was basically a figure 8 layout on a wet parking lot, and the idea was to get the back end sliding around one end of the course, then flick it sideways in the other direction through the middle of the 8 and around the other end. The Viper has so much grip, but they seem to lack progressiveness in traction breakaway in the dry, and it's worse in the wet. A car with a bit less grip and a somewhat softer suspension setup would have made that module a whole lot more fun.

The Performance Drive module was awesome. For this module they used the 300C SRT8, Magnum SRT8, Charger SRT8, and the Crossfire SRT6. Everyone got to drive each of the cars for several laps behind a pro driver on a fairly fast little road course that was probably just over a mile in length, and the pro drivers in the lead cars tended to keep going faster and faster, if you could keep up with them. One of them even got out during a driver swap to come shake my hand for hanging so closely to him. I guess all that old road racing experience paid off!!!

The Full Throttle Challenge module was a very short (100') drag strip, and used 2 of each of the same cars as the Performance Drive module, but with a pair of GC SRT8s as well. They ran each of the cars in matched pairs to see who the best drivers were. Even though I wasn't the best at drag racing launches, I was never beat in the GC SRT8!!! It was cool that the GC SRT8 was the quickest of all, but it was amazing that it was a full HALF SECOND quicker than the Crossfire SRT6!!! I'd rate this module as merely interesting, but it was really satisfying to see the faces of all the folks that had never driven a GC SRT8 when they got out. They were VERY surprised!

My favorite module was the Autocross. They had each of us go out in a Crossfire SRT6 three times in succession without having to get out of the car. Our group's pro driver provided a lot of positive feed back and constructive crticism between each run. The little Crossfire really came into it's own on the tight little course, especially since you could leave in first gear to keep the revs (and turbo boost) up. The Richard Petty Racing Experience (RPRE) said that if anyone could get through the course in the mid 30 second range, they were really doing good.

I started to wonder how well I would really do when a guy that regularly races his own Z-06 Corvette ripped off a 30.4 on his third run. When my time came I was stunned when my first run was a 30.9! The pro driver said that he felt I had the rythm and smoothness down fairly well right off the bat, and that I should really attack it on the second run. That approach netted three cones (a 6 second penalty) and a total time of right at 36 seconds. The pro driver was really cool as he talked me through combining the good parts of each run and sent me out for my final run. That on netted a 29.7. I ended up getting a free Ride Along ticket at PRRE as my reward for setting the fastest time.

It was after all that the the real fun began. They pulled out a GC SRT8 and had us all line up. We were to drive the course one at a time for one lap each with the first driver starting in the timing start box, then stopping in a specified stop box between the start and stop timing boxes for a driver swap. Each driver continued to stop in this box to swap drivers as the clock ran. The last driver (they chose me because of my fastest time in the Crossfire) ran the course and had to hit the stop timing box. It was such fun, especially when we learned that our group, out of four total, had the fastest overall group average time by several seconds! The other groups weren't even close. We all got a cool SRT banner that is just over 9 feet long. I'll have to unroll that sucker and post a pic of it!

I would not hesitate to go again if were free, and I think I might even pay to go again! If you have anyone that is even mildly interested in going, make them go! They, and you, will not regret it!!!!

In contrast, I went to the Chevrolet Rev It Up event, and it sucked. It had all the charm and panache of a parking lot carnival. A lot of the workers had poor attitudes and I never really got to really drive any of the SSs all that hard. They had a ride along in a new Z-06, but those guys really weren't allowed to push the cars that hard. Overall, it was a faily disappointing experience. I feel bad for GM that they can't seem to put on a show nearly as well done as the SRT Track Experience.

As far as DC, SRT, and the RPRE organizations go, they are truly class acts that understand the driving enthusiast. It makes me proud to own my GC SRT8.

I bought my SRT Jeep a few weeks ago, no mention of the SRT Experience from the dealer. Now I see it listed on the window sticker, is the day included in the cost of the vehicle? How do you sign up?

Go to www.drivesrt.com and click on srt track experience and fill out the info. It checks the last 8 # of your vin to see if you qualify.

I probably rivaled the best as far as going in horrible weather - it was mid 30's, raining all day and very windy. I would do it al lover again in the same weather. I had a great time. Like some of the other people stated, you really get to see how the SRT vehicles stack up to each other. I made a post and commented on how much respect the Jeep got from everyone, especially the engineers when other ownders tried to downplay the jeeps ability. Although I didn't get to do some of the things others did on dry pavement, I did get a good understanding of how these vehicles perform in nasty, wet conditions. I was more than very impressed. I would've never taken my jeep to the extremes we did that day therefore I would've never known how amazing these things are. And last, the jeep is on an entirely different level when the asphalt is wet, NO COMPARISON!

Cool...I am signed up for the 9/07 SRT experince @ O'reilly raceway in September. Looks like my father, brother, and I are in for a treat. I keep telling them how impressed I am with the Jeep, but they keep saying it looks good, but...?! I am glad I can take them to the challenge and let them see what this SUV can do, especially since it isn't mine! Hell have fury, as we plan to have a great time.

BTW-I registered them as drivers...it's a surprise. From reading the previous posts I am sure they will have an "unexpected" great time!:)

Cheers!

I was to lazy to finish the rest; but since you asked, it has 28 but leap year it has 29. I was trying to figure out which month has 39. I didn't come up with any.
