Why do some BMW owners think their **** does not stink. I simply posted as someone was looking at a porsche or suitable SUV and I mentioned the jeep and how much I love it. The response I get is ALL BMW drivers don't want american cars...:fight: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=402611&page=2

As if on cue....

Looking at those BMW's, they all look like hood redos. You expect a big puma jumpsuit and oversized sunglasses to get out of them, maybe a Jaegerbomb in hand.

They all just wish they were driving a real German car from Affalterbach that actually has functional air conditioning, of which the BMW is neither. Feature the thought of someone with one of those sedans telling you they're a car snob. :silly:

They weren't that bad....i was thinking...do i have to jump in here and start a battle? LOL

Yea BMW's are smooth but they have lost a lot of prestige....i see 7 series more than i see chrysler 300's now

Everybody has 3 series and 5 series like theres no tomorrow

Nobody looks at them.....no big deal

We know the truth about the Jeep Srt8's

Hey want a faster beamer?....hm.....an M3, M5 and M6 can't beat me in performance....neither will the X5M or X6M....so guess they gotta buy the um....i don't know i think that's it....maybe a $4,000 eismann and a $2,000 chip will do the trick!!!

Hey they ride smooth and have nice interiors atleast! That i won't argue!

90% of Bimmer owners are good people who like a nice euro-luxury car. 10% of Bimmer owners are A-type personalities (a = @$$hole). They give the whole bunch a bad name IMO (see my last post in the Kill thread).

I think everyone is going to be partial to what they own/drive, some more than others. And then you'll always have those few who are so closed-minded that nothing you can say or do will have them think otherwise. Personally, for the amount of performance that the Jeep offers for the price, it will always be in a class of its own.

Speaking of price, did anyone catch that Porsche Cayenne Turbo going for only $27K? Are they really that cheap, or am I missing something here?

There's a few 04's on eBay for low-to-mid $30k range. I think that's a fair price for them. Back in 04, the list price was under $100k. Then again, with the economy in the cr@pper, you can get a 03 911T for $50k too.

THIS.

A guy I work with used to own a 97 Z28 M6 and is now on his 2nd BMW (328i)..he will never own anything but BMW again (which is fine) but he always makes comments about my Camaro 'burning oil' or 'getting close to blowing up'... I always ask him if he has forgetten where he came from. Then I challenge him to a little race...haha.. just for fun of course.

I'm the exact opposite. I had all the American muscle, went to BMW with my 02 540, and then came back to America. I will never own another BMW again. Too damn expensive to maintain and mod, too little power gains.

i look at it from many aspects. at first those bimmers are losers in my opinin whenever they say all good things about their cars and all bad things about american cars. one main reason is that the JEEP beats their all car classes. look at the M3, completly under power for the way it supposed to be.

also, look at where we are now in terms of performance and tuning levels compare to bimmers. we are just few years old in the SRT8 catogory and you can see 5 types of forced indcution, strokers kits, bolt on mods, tuning choices, and many others. so much to do with our cars if someone wants to upgrade them. BUT the bimmer, there are barely one company who does a turbo kit, or so , and if there is such performance prodcuts brand, look at the prices.

Local BMW dealer here was offering a supercharger kit for the new M3, M5, and X5 line of vehicles from G power. the kit cost $27K. oh yeah, tell me about it.
the dealer realized that all new M3 owners in town bought the new M3 and then after few months sold it. mainly because all of the JEEP SRT8 in town have beaten up the M3 & M5 butts. :D

I just love my SRT8.

Bimmers are definitely great cars. It's your general mans sports car when it comes to that sweet upper-middle class spot. They are tuned high for their engine, they are expensive to maintain, and there is a certain amount of emblem clout that comes with them.

i could buy a M3 or a 335cxi (btw - I'd scrap the M3 and just get the lower cost 335.. twin turbo - one mod (chip) = 400hp!) but I don't. I'm not very interested in looking the part - i am much more interested in having room and having the baddest looking SUV on the road. X5 or any other BMW just doesn't do it for me.

They are fine vehicles though - you get what you pay for and upgrade for upgrade I'll stick with the Jeep. I get the room - some of the luxury - and plenty of speed for a much more reasonable price.

Never liked BMWs snobbery, that's why I light them up every time they give me that snobby a$$ look. Some are cool though... even the track suit euro types - they crack me up with their techno and oversized sunglasses.

So - BMW drivers are alright by me generally. Now bike riders in Vancouver, BC - that's a group to really dislike. Flippin' road hoggin', smelling my exhaust and yelling at me that my car stinks motherhumpers!

Meh, that thread was not bad at all IMO. I was expecting some snobby idiots full of superiority to be spewing anything and everything negative about Jeeps. But that didn't happen.

As far as my take on BMW owners, they are about like Vette owners. They have a rep of being complete douchebags, yet the ones I personally know are very cool, down to earth car guys / gals that like vehicles in general.

Hey now, my wife could have gotten any vehicle she wanted when we gave the X6 4.4 to out daughter. She wanted the 135 Vert, and it is one fine little car. Now she wants the X5 M to go with it. Well, we do need an SUV. I had 2 Jeep SRT's. Fun vehicles and a lot for the buck, but I had a ton of problems with one, and the other was T-Boned while I sat at an intersection and was never the same. Had it repaired, and my Son is still driving it hard in SC. There are snobs within every car brand.....go to Italy and look at the Fiat and Smart Car drivers!

I am a 7 day owner of my Cherokee SRT8 and this is my first post.

I've owned a 750iL for almost 4 years. The warranty is about to run out so I had to decide, keep it and extend the warranty or look for something else. I've always liked the drive in the BMW line but thought I would like an SUV. I looked at all the brands as I am very particular, or fussy might be more accurate. I always like to start out with something used with about 40K miles on it. That can tell you what to expect when your new one is used. I drove the Porsche and was least impressed, so little I went around the block and returned to the dealer.

On a whim I pulled into the Dodge dealer. Told him I was looking for a smaller SUV than my wife's Suburban XL but larger than an MDX. He showed me the Jeep commander and the Cherokee. We drove them and I definitely liked them. On the way out I spotted a Cherokee SRT8 tucked under the roof. I asked about that. The salesman smiled. Before this day I knew nothing of the SRT8 Cherokee.

I asked for the keys and the moment I pulled out of the dealership I was grinning like an idiot. My 3 teenage kids were in the back seat giggling like little girls.

We went to the BMW dealer to check out the X5 that I had previously looked at alone. The kids dug the gadgetry. Be aware that I buy everything as fully loaded as I can possibly find.

We made some trips and errands with the family. I spent the next hour discussing the two cars with my wife and hitting the internet on my iPhone researching the SRT8, taxes, tires, warranties, etc. In SC we have to pay property tax on cars. On the BMW it's high, about $1600 a year. Taking into account property tax, insurance, tires, fuel and some other smaller facts the SRT8 cost of ownership is $250 - $300 less per month than if I kept the BMW. If I had decided to buy the X5 the difference would have been way larger.

As we pulled out of Costco I pondered the facts to myself. Out of no where one of the kids pipped up, we should go back and get the Jeep.....We'll that was all I needed. I slid into the other lane, went to the dealer and walked out a happy man. I've been grinning like an idiot ever since.

I have and have had fast cars, BMWs, Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, etc. Nothing has ever made me smile the Jeep! Every day the car impresses me more.

I ended up paying $37K for an 08 with 4K miles. I'm assuming all the 08s are From doing some snooping on the internet that seemed somewhere between fare and a good deal. Either way I am completely pleased.

Goes to show you, not all BMW people are snobs. Nor are they only interested in a status symbol. The BMW was a nice ride but the Jeep is a much better fit for my life and lifestyle. I'm not a street racer, I don't plan on drag racing. I appreciate a quality built vehicle with enough power to pass when I want to and that I am confident when I pull out into traffic. I'd rather know the power and control is there and not need it than to need it and not have it. I'd just hate being crushed by a semi truck when merging into traffic from an on ramp because I had a vehicle with "adequate" power!

I guess this is off topic but I need to share. We'll guess most of this is off topic except the part about BMW dealers being snobs. I've had one race, with a Suburban.......You gotta be kidding me.....What was the dude thinking!!! I did nothing to provoke it. More on that on a different thread.

One parting thought. When I had my BMW people would say, wow nice car. They kinda looked at you like you were someone special. Now that I've had the Jeep, I've been provoked to race, cut off and basically screwed with at least once a day. What is up with that???!!! And not even fast cars, pieces of crap, pickup trucks, teenage boys in mommy and daddy's sedan. So back to the start of this paragraph. Maybe the BMW owners feel like their better than everyone else because that's how people treat them. When I would get a compliment about my BMW I felt as if the person thought I was cool for having a BMW and that sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I would jokingly say...."Thanks, bought it myself". I certainly never felt I was special, was owed anything nor was I a snob to anyone and certainly not about the car I drove. There are snobs and wealthy housewives who feel privileged or special but not all BMW owners are snobs.

Wow, that was a lot more than I expected to type!

^+1. I have had many cars as well and been on many forums. Amongst the cars I own now include the GCSRT8 and a 335i coupe. I have the BMW because the connection between the driver and the road is amazing, especially for under 50K. It's actually not that expensive if you own it under warranty or lease it. Interestingly though, I've had more problems with BMWs than all other Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep I've owned (over 30). So they are not perfect cars by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm not defending either brand or car or driver. However, objectively, there were more insulting and stereotypical comments on this thread than on the bimmerfest thread. In addition, I have personally witnessed some members on this forum make some very ignorant and immature comments. There is much more Bernie intervention here than administrator intervention on bimmerfest because of member getting out of line. So contrary to some previous sentiments in this thread, I see more immaturity here than on bimmerfest. Demographically, I'm sure the age, education level, and income of the members on bimmerfest is higher than here. Again, I'm not defending either. In fact, I'm actually a far bigger fan of SRT/Dodge/Jeep. Just pointing out what I see. Cars are a reflection of their owners, but A**holes are everywhere.

There are 3 types of BMW owners: 1) Those who are enthusiasts and truly drive it for its driving feel. 2)BMW "Fanboys" who think BMWs are the most perfect things in the word. 3) Badge whores. On Bimmerfest, #1 and #2 are the most popular and I'd say #1 is actually more popular in terms of total people but the #2 people post disproportionately higher.

There are 3 types of SRT8 owners: 1) Those who appreciate the car for what it is and recognize it as the best bang for the buck on the planet. 2) Mopar Fanboys who think anything Mopar is the best stuff in the world. 3) The immature, unrefined, annoying crowd that is attention seeking and ignorantly bash other due to a lack of sophistication or education. I think #1 is more popular on this forum, but we also have our share of #3 people who occasionally post like crazy on this forum. For those of us that fall under #1, I think we all recognize #3 and refrain our comments.

So bottom line, you have some really nice and helpful people that drive both makes/cars. I've met those people on both forums. And you have idiots that drive both makes/cars and are on their respective forums. There is no hope for them! Unfortunately, we cannot make sweeping generalizations about either makes/cars as we will always find exceptions to those stereotypes.

I've been a German car snob ever since I got my first Beetle. I climbed the ladder from air-cooled classics to water cooled Vw's to brand new Audis. I would have never touched a Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler. I matured. I still won't touch a Chevy or Ford, but I have two SRT8's now, and I ain't never looked back.

btw.. their German heritage made the switch easier....
