Im going to buy a used rig from one of our members. The question is:he doesnt have title in hand, I need to give him a deposit, to hold it for me till I can fly to where he is, the wifes nerveous to let cash go with out some sort of security on our cash.I feel safe but you never know.dont want to get hosed. then second part of question: when I get there with the cashiers check, how can I be sure I'll actually get the note paid and I'll get the title.I am pretty trustfull, however I'm married to a women who is not, and I would like to stay married,as odd as that sounds. any advice or opinions are welcome ,except suggestions about the wife,please dont. she is a good women. lol, thanks

Bill of sale, signed by both of you. 2 copies of it. Will the check be made out to him or his bank? as for the deposit, im not really sure, i guess i have never worried that much about it.

Go directly to the Bank with the owner and give the cashier's check to the bank. The bank (person that has the title) will then issue the title over to you and if there is any difference the bank will cut the owner a reimbursement check.

If a deposit is needed (a receipt of your plane ticket would do for me) and you both want to be safe, just do PayPal

Just like Spencer said go directly to the bank.. If its one of those banks that don't keep the titles on hand, just get a bill of sale NOTORIZED with both signatures.. And also take his plates with you until you get the title in the mail and mail them back.. That's what I've always done..

Send the deposit through Paypal with a credit card. If something goes wrong and you can't get Paypal to refund the money, your CC company can reverse the charge.

All good advice here, take your choice of any. Whichever way you go, your ass is covered ;)
