ok, so this is BY FAR the nicest head unit I have had, and I have had a lot! This head unit, for the price, can not be beat. If you are looking for full on screen iPod control, this is it. It works fast, and the on screen touchscreen buttons resemble that of your iPod. Also, you have full iPod Video control :) . I will post pics up tomorrow, BUT I DO NEED HELP!!!

Ok, if anyone has installed an aftermarket head unit in their SRT8, I need help. The CAN BUS system has to be overridden by an interface made by Peripheral Electronics called a CHYAH05. I have this and my question is, is there a trick to installing it to make it stay on. I have a feeling I have a faulty product, but sometimes it doesnt engage the CAN BUS system, and the radio won't turn on. Does anyone have advice? If not, I am installing another one on thursday to see if that solves the problem!

I have installed many a Peripheral Electronics piece in my day and 2 out of ten line level converters had problems. Not saying there could not be something else wrong but the % of failure is there. Recheck all your connections and make sure you used the correct ignitions sources. Also check your voltage make sure there is not a drop or a bad ground.

I am not familiar with this unit but, it looks like there are a few power options and for sure more than one ground pin. Make sure you did not ground to the lights or any other wire that might show a ground while off.

Otherwise replace and pray.

Good Luck!!

Do you need the CHYAH05 if you don't plan on using the factory amp or speakers? I was just planning on replacing the factory HU with the Pioneer Avic-Z2 and use aftermarket amps and speakers. I was going to use this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-iOYni0POc7u/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=118900&I=127SWIPS To retain the factory steering wheel remote. Will this not work? I am not familiar with what the CAN BUS system does.

i think that if you are replacing everything from the factory amps and up, you should be able to do so without the CAN BUS interface, because your audio will solely be contained within itself.

Also, why the Z2? Check out the D3 because its like $1000 dollars cheaper and I don't see much of a difference between the two. It's up to you though!

The main reason for the Z2 is the 7" screen. It should fit perfectly into the stock Nav area.

I have the AVIC D2 and I can attest these are fine units - minus few bugs like inability to show time and mp3 track name etc. I am sure D3 is much better. Except, I believe it only comes with one CD/DVD - so you have to remove your navigation disc to play CDs???

i may sell the stock nav, but i am probably going to keep it to replace when I sell this vehicle.

The Z2 does have a 7" screen, but it didnt seem to be worth the extra $$$ to me. The D3 fits perfect, as Metra has a dash kit for our truck that is actually very clean and OEM looking despite some of there other kits.

I am installing the piece to make the steering wheel controls work tomorrow, but they do make the adapter for it.

As far as U CONNECT, I heard they are designing an adapter to make it work, but I don't know. As of now, I dont think it works.

It does have one CD slot, but without the DISC the maps work, and I believe the home feature. If not, you only need to put the disc in to load the destination, then it can be removed.

Does the unit have a color option? That is can the display color be green instead of blue so that it blends in better with all the rest of the instrument colors which are mainly green.

Thanks!

Yes. Green/Red/Blue are your options (that I know of)

I'm putting one of these in my GTI! Can't wait.

Oh btw, for the GPS, does this thing do auto-routing and route correction? Cause if not, it's worthless from a GPS standpoint.

Yes it does. Just about ALL GPS units (even the $300 portable ones) do that now-a-days...
