But it is driving me nuts!!!

Under any type of acceleration I have some sort of "creeking" sound coming from the rear interior of the vehicle. It almost sounds as if the rear seats are not properly locked in place (but they are). It is not a major sound but I hear every time I leave a stop.

Does anyone else have this noise? If so, has anyone located the source, found a fix?

Thanks!

have you taken a good look at the seatbelts, specifically the buckle part...it seems to be a two piece part and i have noticed a rattle eminating from there.

I have looked at all of them, but the issue is not so much a rattle as a a squeek or creeking sound (as if you were sitting on a rocking chair and heard the wood settling). It is more noticeable at slow acceleration (because there is less engine noise) and it is there all of the time. I can also hear it on decceleration as well. I wonder if it is the springs???

Go and push down on the rear bumper a few times. If its the shocks or springs you should be able to hear the noise.

You definatly need someone so sit in the back to pin point the sound while you drive it with the seats folded down, then up,and with everything out of the the cargo area to check interior, might be underneath like a dry bushing.Good Luck!

go on the passenger side rear, with your ear by the taillight assy, open and close the rear door (in a quiet environment) and see if you hear it. Just figured that part out on mine, but I have not brought it in yet.

Thanks folks!

I've been working a bunch of hours this week but will see what I can "hear" in the next day or so.

have someone in the back while u duplicate the sound, do it with the rear seats folded up/down, buckle both rear seatbelts, etc.
I know on alot of the bmw's (where I work in service) it comes from the rear door seals

Turn-up the radio? :D I hear some noises when it gets real cold, no creeking though.

Have someone sit in the back seat and put there hand on the rear compartment cover. I found that my noise stopped............ check it out.
I added a little wD40 to the U shaped saddle that holds the cover.
Hope that helps !!

It could be the parking brake cables rubbing on the sway bar or rear end. Mine happened to be slapping the underside of the floor, then once I fixed that, they started rubbing the sway bar causing a squeeking sound. Now, I have no rattles or squeeks.

If it is the same noise I had, then it is the isolators for the rear suspension springs. There is a TSB on the 06 for this, but you have an 07. Regardless, my Jeep was outside of the suspect range and yet the noise went away when the dealer changed the isolators. So mention that to them if you take it in. Good luck.

This was my exact problem too. Kind of a creaky, almost velcro-like sound on acceleration. I used some double sided 3M tape to dampen it - no more noise!

Now if I could just get the shifter bezel to stop creaking... :)

So I did a little investigating today and also got to ride in the back of my Jeep for the first time (not overly comfortable I must say). The girlfriend was happy cuz she got to drive. In fact, for laughs she "nailed it" once while I was perched over trying to listen  . I almost ended up all the way in the back!

So the sound is coming from the passenger side wheel well. It almost sounds as if it is coming from the interior between the plastic cover and the well itself. This said, I applied a fair amount of downward pressure on the plastic cover to see if I could replicate the noise without any vehicle motion or secure whatever was making the noise while the vehicle was in motion. In both cases, I had no luck. So, I'm off to do some more digging or see if I can see something from underneath the car.

Updates later.

Se7en,

I have the the exact problem and its really getting to me. Like you said, its a creaking noise under light acceleration, usually from a dead stop. I've had my brother sit in the back and try to locate it, lying down on the floor, you name it. He thinks it comes from the seat bolts that connect to chassis, but I'm not sure. if you sit on the rear seat and rock back and forth, you cannot make it creak. its really annoying. any update from your side?

I had my dealer rip the interior apart trying to isolate it. He checked with DCX about it and they have not had enough complaints about the noise. They tightened everything interior and exterior. For the most part the noise is gone. Dealer was Normandin in San Jose, ca.

I'm having the exact same issue and i can't find it for the life of me. I believe it's some bolts either inside or under the rear seat...maybe part of the rear seat. Mine mostly occurs when there is any type of body flex.

CREAK CREAK is the sound...drives me nuts.

I've tried pushing on the body etc...but can't replicate it unless driving.

Any one who figures it out PLEASE let me know.

thx

Hi Stephen-
Steel Blue twins in all things. I have had a similar noise, but I would call it a rattle more than a squeak. I fastened the rear seat belt, thinking the buckle was the culprit; no change. I removed the window shade contraption, and still had it. Reversed and then removed the floor cover; still no change. Then one day it just went away. Don't know why. I only have about 1,000 miles on it so far, so we will see if it returns. Next step would be to have someone ride in the back, but so far no need. Hope you are enjoying your PBM. Everyone who sees it loves the color.--Bob

pstephen,

absolutely impossible to replicate the creaking sound! my next step is maybe to check under the truck around where the rear seats are... will let you know. This sound started a few months ago and there was one time it went away by itself (don't know how) and more recently came back...
