Has any one had a problem with the sunroof breaking in the vent position?

I went close my sunroof tonight from the vent position and it would go down to almost close then would open up again, kind of like somthing was in the track. I felt arount inside the track and noticed a deflector piece out of place I was able to move itout of the way and the snrf closed but with some clicking noises and a piece of plastic fell in the seat.

Could this have been caused by moving at a high rate of speed such as 150 to 165 mph with the vent open?

I had a similar problem on my old M3. I had to take the emergency sunroof tool and open it all the way, then I double-checked the track to be sure it was clear and then hand cranked it closed all the way. Give it a try as the clicking is probably some gear stripping which I imagine would be a PITA repair.

On my E36 M3 when this happened I had to get a complete new sunroof cartridge (under warranty) as the attempted repairs never lasted more then a few open/close cycles. Both my E36 cars had this problem under warranty.

My vent works fine.

However, in a fully open position on the highway at 70, that thing is LOUD. Really the first time I've driven it in the open position since I bought it.

Try cracking the rear windows a little. The sound should decrease.

That did the trick.

Thanks!
