: tire damage
promo718 03-18-2007, 12:16 PM on the highway today i ran through a lane-wide pothole..only realized it was there after the hit..it was hard to see the damn thing. the sidewall of my front left tire now has a bubble, but the rim looks fine. i called around some tire shops in my area, but it being sunday most were closed. no-one who was open has the technology to reset the tire pressure sensor anyway. so i will try again tomorrow..or may end up going to the dealer..anyone know what the dealer charge is for new rubber & install?
WJ_Jeep 03-18-2007, 01:19 PM Only a dealer with special run-flat equipment can mount a run-flat tire. Around here it is $50-75 to mount a run-flat and only 3 places in Louisville, KY have the equipment to mount it... My local Jeep dealerships do not even have the equipment to mount them...
The front tire on tirerack.com is a Goodyear Eagle RS-A EMT 255/45ZR20 RunFlat, Serv. Desc: 101W, UTQG: 260 A A Price: $287.00 (each)

Are you within the 1 year/2-32 of wear tire warranty? If so it's all free at a Goodyear EMT dealer, new tire + install. Per the tire sensors, no resetting is required.
the dj 03-18-2007, 03:31 PM are you sure, there is a difference between a tire defect & tire damage
let me know

I am 100% positive. Road hazards ARE covered:
"Any new Goodyear Extended Mobility Technology tire removed from service due to a covered warranty condition or rendered not repairable due to a road hazard injury during the first 2/32" of treadwear or 12 months from date of purchase, whichever occurs first, will be replaced at no charge. Mounting and balancing are included. Repairable punctures will also be repaired at no charge during this period. Without proof of purchase date of manufacture will be used to determine age."
promo718 03-18-2007, 05:41 PM that is good info rs. where are you quoting from?
promo718 03-18-2007, 05:54 PM nevermind, found it in goodyear emt tire booklet. i was looking at the wrong one before (standard goodyear tire warranty)
promo718 03-19-2007, 01:46 PM took the truck to the nearest authorized goodyear tire shop (runflat certified). as rs said, everything was done under warranty, less a $20 service charge. also, after the tire came off, a small dent in the rim was visible - that cost $50 to fix. it was not 100% mandatory per the technician, but i wanted to be on the safe side.
i'm now considering getting some kind of extended wheel warranty to fall back on after the goodyear one expires in 6 months (1 year from date of vehicle purchase).

Service charge????? That's a load of BS!!!!! There is not supposed to be a service charge. Any repair is free of charge, PERIOD. I would suggest getting your $20 back. And if they refuse, let them know you are calling Goodyear.
And rim damage????? First off, it's TIRE repair shop. How the heck are they supposed to repair the wheel. Sounds to me like they took you to the wood shed.
promo718 03-19-2007, 02:01 PM i saw the rim before & after they straightened out the bump. they did a good job with it.
as for the $20 service charge, you may be right..but it would cost me more in gas to drive back there. rip-off huh?

Well, if they really did fix the rim, then great. But, yes, the service charge is a rip off. All repairs are fully covered. I had one of my shoes repaired several months ago, and no service charge here.
EDIT - Heck, just call them and tell them to mail the check.
promo718 03-19-2007, 02:12 PM another thing is that, per the warranty, the tire had to have lost less than 2/32 of an inch of tread. i'm not sure how much tread i had left, exactly, but i've driven 10,000 miles now..so i didn't want to get up in arms over $20 when it might have possibly led me to shell out $400 on a new tire / install. know what i mean?

It may only be $20, but it's the principle of the matter. Definitely call the Goodyear EMT 800 number and complain that you were charged a service fee for a warranty repair and let them take it from there.

$50-$75!!!! What!?!?!? My local goodyear place re-mounted one of my run flats when I changed the rim and it only costed $12!!! Actually I dont even know if they knew it was a run flat. Was there a special procedure that had to be done that for mounting a run-flat?
