: the longer i own it......
esq76 03-16-2007, 08:52 PM I haved had many cars in my day...from mitsubishi to mercedes and alot in between.
The longer I own this truck the more of a piece of crap i think it is. Between all of the complaints on this forum plus my own complaints....there is certainly alot of bad press about this truck. Between the brake squeal, the tire monitor, the paint, the transmission, the wierd sound when you shut the engine down (see other posts)....it just pisses me off that we have to deal with this. I say this because this actually the first auto I have ever purchased (usaually lease) I puchased this auto because I really loved the look, the drive and most of all the price. Despite the price I must say, we as drivers are foced to swallow a lot of **** to jstify the price. xi do not want to mention the customer service (or lack thereof) when I mention these "little issues". All in all, I am a dissatisfied customer and regret not leasing this truck. In fact I am willing to sell.....

Sorry to hear about your issues, I have had no problems, and the more I drive mine the more I love it. This is my 3rd Chrysler vehicle and my family's
6th and I have been lucky since they have all been great vehicles.
SilverSRT-8 03-16-2007, 09:20 PM I must agree to some extent. I love the beast but if you are looking for service from Chrysler....it is pretty bad. I must say this is my biggest reason for wanting to sell. I have already placed an order for an 08 import from a local dealer.
I have brought my jeep into a Lexus dealership for service! They know service!
JeepSRT 03-16-2007, 09:34 PM There are problem's with every brand, A friend of mine runs a Toyota dealership and they sold a brand new Tundra, after 500 miles it was returned to the dealer with a blown engine. I'm not saying these Jeeps are perfect but every brand has issues, go to any forum and you will find exactly the same topics about Lexus, BMW and all others.

EXACTLY, In fact all the HI Performance vehicles i have owned I have participated in forms to go with them. And i will say this has the least amount of complaints From FORD to VW. I have had many cars and all have had issues. The fact that the SRT engineers get on the board and discuss problems and work to fix or complaints i.e. TRANS Shift says a lot for the SRT brand. Dealers are all independent and in most cases SUCK. I know i used to work for one, Toyota actually. Trust me we saw our share of factory recalls, crappy interior pieces, ect. It's in every make, model and manufacture of vehicles/boats/trains/planes.....yada yada.
When ever you buy a Performance vehicle there are bound to be problems now in our case we purchase these vehicles in the first two years of production. Lots of kinks to be worked out. I expect some issues.
FORD 6.0 Diesel for example The motor lasted 4 long years before they had to make a new one because of all the problems.
There is no way around having problems with anything that is mass produced
MY 10 cents
DRIHEAT 03-16-2007, 11:10 PM I am very sorry to hear of your troubles with your '07. I had a 911 S Targa melt its engine. I had a Mercedes (S 500) bought back as a lemon. I have had 38 new cars, sh!t sometimes happens. That's what warranties & Lemon Laws are for.
As my 4th Grand Cherokee, and close to a year driving it, this is one of the best vehicles (and dealer) that I have had. Still can't get the stoooopid grin off my face when I drive it.
Beltfed 03-16-2007, 11:12 PM I agree, all cars have issues....especially high performance models.

You are not forced to do anything. Quit playing the victim.
StageFright 03-16-2007, 11:49 PM They are just machines and machines break, although some more than others.
But the whole customer service thing is another issue, if you are having problems with any dealer make sure you report your problems to Chrysler customer service at the world HQ in Auburn Hills,MI.

So sell it then. Don't complain to us. These are all very small things in the grand scheme of what it takes to build a performance automobile.

That's funny, because I happen to be saving my pennies for one - you know if the price was right, i could just take that right off your hands :)
AlexT 03-17-2007, 08:36 AM I think if you know what you're buying, these minor issues are just compromises that you factor in to ownership.
But bottom line is there are too many cars to choose from to stick with one that you're unhappy with. Move on, and maybe do a bit more research before your next one. Good luck!
Alex
Don't like it, dump it, sh** happens. Sorry for your experience. For me its been great both vehicle and dealer wise.
Post # 2, and 4-14 reflect the feelings of many of us, I do believe.
We've all had problems with some vehicle we've owned. For me, the worst were a buy-back from Mercedes for electrical issues, and a Porsche that ate a valve and was tied up for 16 weeks for parts. Go figure. Does not mean I would not buy either brand again though. Good luck with your difficulties.
Did notice also, that you havn't owned the car for two months yet. Might want to try and get everything fixed to your satisfaction before you dump it and take a major hit.
SilverSRT-8 03-17-2007, 11:27 AM I am not saying I don't like the BEAST. I love the GC SRT-8 but I will say I HATE the service at Chrystler.
Inferno SRT8 03-17-2007, 11:34 AM Jeep 5 star dealerships = worst service possible
After going thru 5 dealerships who were all 5 star, I found a NON 5 star dealer who does great work, the 5 star means squat.
BMW, Mercedes all make lemons I have friends who wouldnt buy either anymore and they have money to burn so all car makers make lemons it happens.
whipple1 03-17-2007, 11:46 AM I also agree to what everyone is saying about other auto companys haveing problems,I bought quite a few brand new cars and they all had some sort of problem but my worst was a 99 Lexus GS400 I brought it back to the dealer 28 times in 2 years dont ask me why I kept it so long but I did.Lexus is supposed to be one of the best cars out there, after that I went back to american cars and had great success. The Jeep has been great for me so far no problems, just a little brake squeal but the best brakes I ever had,and the transmission kickdown gear a little sluggish no biggie, for a high performance vehicle and everyday driver I think this suv is great,Thats just my opinion.
kman999 03-17-2007, 12:24 PM one thing to keep in mind is the wide spectrum of people on any kind of forum. When I visit any kind of forum, I take every comment with a grain of salt because its purely individual and does not represent a consensus.
everyone has different needs and expectations, you just have to educate yourself when buying any kind of high performance product. you wanna play, then you gotta pay...

Oh please. If you don't like the truck, then please do us ALL a favor and sell it. As if coming on here to whine is going to solve ANYTHING. Everyone will have good and bad experiences with any vehicle. People come to online forums when they have problems, thus, if you spend all day on them it can look like a vehicle is plagued. My truck had an issue with the shifter module, guess what, my dealer fixed it. If you're recieving bad service, GO TO ANOTHER DEALER.
Street WK 03-17-2007, 01:22 PM Also, most people come on forums to find answers to the problems, so a lot of posts you will read will be "problem" posts.

MOTV8D 03-18-2007, 01:59 AM WOW
I guess it is not OK to dislike the SRT on this forum!
I also have a SRT8 that has been a piece of junk. I currently own 5 vehicles and I have had well over 20 new vehicles (almost all Ford products-F150s', Explorers', Mustangs', SVT vehicles, Volvos', Toyotas' and a couple of GM Products). I understand the fierce loyalty toward the SRT, and I will admit this is my first Jeep/DCX vehicle, but I have never dealt w/the number of issues the Jeep has presented. My 68' Chevelle w/ a blown 350, that I drag race, is not in the shop as much as my Jeep.
Maybe I just got a Monday or Friday car, but it seems that since there are only 2800 (2006) SRT8 Jeeps in the USA--A lot of us are fighting problems.
Please feel free to correct me, but it appears that 25-30% of the SRT8s out there have multiple issues, multiple times.
My feeling is we can discuss these issues or we can flame someone who does not run around smiling all the time. Many of us are having real issues and are frustrated.
I am always open to new ideas, but cursing someone because they are voicing their concerns or their frustration does not help anyone.
Offer ideas, suggestions, assistance, and maybe a little sympathy. I have had a lemon before (97' Chevy PU w/ Vortec 350), and it truly sucks time, energy, and money.
That's my take.

Discussing the pro's and the con's is what forums are all about, and both sides are very much welcome as far as I and many others are concerned. BUT, the way that the "negatives" are presented can make all the difference in the world as far as what responses to expect. If esq76 has chosen his words more carefully he probably would have received more "professional" and positive advice. I do understand his frustrations, unfortunately that's the way the cards fall sometimes.
For most owners I think the positives of owning and driving this vehicle far outweigh the negatives. You have to just take each issue one at a time and work on getting it solved. A good dealer makes all the difference in the world. As many have mentioned, there is not a vehicle on the planet that is problem free.

I bought mine from westbury and I get loaners there, but that cant fill air in a tire correctly so ill never use or buy anotehr car from them. I think they give the loaner knowing there going to screw your car up worse then when you brought it in. Star wont give you a loaner you can try though. For great service ill bypass the loaner.
Also I beleive that ALOT of the issues people are having is die to VERY POOR service on the dealerships side, DCX needs to come down hard on half ass dealerships who do half ass work, there ruining YOUR PRODUCT DCX!!!!!
FireStRT8r 03-18-2007, 11:00 AM Whiners.
What do you think you are getting by spending $40k on a vehicle that is providing $100K in value? Seriously, why do you think it is such a bargain? Why do you think there is nothing in it's class to compete against?
Your brakes make some noise? My M3's passenger door won't close.
Your engine makes a funky sound when it shuts down? My CL500 has smelly AC.
Your transmission doesn't shift perfectly from 1-2? SRT8E will fix it and my FX45 still has poor throttle response.
Your dashboard is plastic? My 911 C4's engine shuts down if I make a 90 degree turn when the ambient temperature is above 90 degrees. It sat in my garage for two weeks while the hotfix was developed by FP.
Guess what...go watch the scene from Glen Garry Glen Ross with Alec Baldwin. That's how most of us are going to react to your nonsense.

"It's brutish", "it jerks you around", "it pulls you all over the road", "it's so loud", "I was afraid to push the gas", and so on. I looked right at her and said, "I know, don't ya just love it!". We all make certain sacrifices to grab this tiger by the tail, and if you can't, this isn't the car for you.

This is well said.
It doesn't sound that esq has a lemon. What he is upset about are some of the things that make this Jeep not perfect. All of his concerns were the idiosyncrasies we have all pointed out and talked about on the Jeep. It just sounds like those bother him more than they bother the majority of the rest of us and for that reason, he may chose to sell his truck and the person who buys it may be a very happy new owner. However, any of these things could have been known prior to purchasing since they have all been discussed on this board many times. Its the things that you can't research, that leave you stranded with no ride that warrant crying foul. There are some that have been in to the dealership many times within weeks of ownership with mechanical issues, and we read about one owner on this forum that actually had the dealership replace his '06 with a new '07 due to an array of problems. These point to poor quality as opposed to squealing brembos and a non-german paint finish.
Everyone has the right to say whatever they want, but if someone new came on this site and was reading posts, they may get the wrong opinion about the quality and reliability of this truck when reading alarming sounding comments like transmission problems and strange noises. I just think people should be careful how they phrase their feelings so they are not misunderstood.
I have yet to come across the perfect vehicle for the perfect price. (free would be the perfect price by the way)
gbusy1906 03-18-2007, 09:52 PM I have owned many vehicles from vettes to e-class mercedes, models that had been out for a while that gave my minor problems. As long as they didn't leave me stranded, I was find. This jeep has been out for 2yrs. It is still new. I have had one minor problem with mine-trans leak that was repaired by the dealer the same day. No problems since then other than wreaking havoc on unsuspected victims at the track-13.15 at 102.50. This was after taking a trip to Disney World in the "Bruiser". I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
saywhat 03-18-2007, 10:10 PM When I drive down the hwy. bugs hit the window and stick!!! It makes me want to sell the car!! NOT!!!! Stop complaining!!!! The Jeep is a gift compared to the problems I have with the MBZ and Ranger Rover Sport I have, And they cost a few more $$$. :D
Quite simply: driving the SRT is like getting an "E ticket" ride for the street; with room for 5!:D
gerry_miranda 03-19-2007, 07:23 AM If you have all these issues coming out when the car is newly bought, how will ths jeeps reliability bode out in the future? Will it just be an annoynce the first few thousand miles and will be a bucket of falling bolts at 30000 miles?
No one knows I guess...OTOH 96 GC had electrical issues in the beginning, but no wierd noises and mech problems. Once it was fixed, now at 130,000 miles all is still well.
My other 2 BMW had no problems to 50k miles.
