HID ballasts? I just got a kit (after sorting through hundreds on the net) and the wiring is very easy, seems truly "plug and play", but I'm not sure of the best place (and manner) to mount the ballasts. For those of you with HID, where did you mount and did you use adhesive backing or the metal brackets??? Any info would be appreciated

I used 3m trim mounting double sided tape and never had a problem with it. Sometimes if the ballast is large i'll also use zip ties. I'm not a big fan of drilling holes.

thanks razor, where in the bay did you mount your ballasts? any places to definitely stay away from when mounting? And lastly, is it a MUST to disconnect the battery when installing these?

I mounted both on the inner front fenders w/ 3m tape and these were pretty large ballasts. There really is no necessary place to stay away from since ballasts are pretty good with heat. I never disconnected the battery when installing hids. A tip is to make sure you connect everything and that it works properly before going ahead and mounting since removing mounted ballasts with the 3m tape can be a pain in the ass. Also working between temps of 60 and 100F is ideal for trim tape to stick properly otherwise if its too cold it might come off when applying.

thanks again. . . guess I'll have to wait until it warms up next week to install :(. . I was looking forward to a brightly illuminated trip to Philly this weekend

Well if you have the time than you can always just use a hair dryer to heat up the inner fender a little before you mount. You just need the inner fender above 60f for about 40 seconds while pressing down w/ the 3m tape. :D

ended up with a purevision 6000k 9006 for the lows, not going to change out any of the others until I know I'm happy with the look and quality of the kit. . .have silverstar ultras in the fog and highs for now. The purevision kit is nicely put together (copied after the phillips design), and I found it fairly cheap on ebay (approx. $150 incl. shipping vs. $200 on the purevisionhid website). . . if the purevision ends up not working the way I'd like, I'll bite the bullet and go with the real Phillips for the extra cash

Sorry for the dirt... It's been REALLY messy around here. :)

I had some brackets fabbed up for mine, and they work great. Something similar for my fogs down below too.

those brackets are slick. Headlight covers will conceal nicely I'm sure.

They do. I have the headlight covers, and the ballast brackets are tucked nicely below.
