Does anyone know where I can get a step by step tranny filter and fluid change so I can attempt this myself. Also I did a search and saw a comment that the diablo sport can give me the necessary fluid temp...is this true. By the way this will be for an 07 with 31k miles on it. I know manual recommends changing after 60k by I would like to just keep fluid fresh in the tranny because
I am a hard driver. Thanks for the help!!

Actually, very easy to do if you have two tools (a way of measuring trans temps (I have a Dashhawk), and the specific NAG1 dipstick tool that measures fluid depth. Pulling the pan involves removing 6 torx screws, the gasket is rubber (re-usable), and the filter just pulls out, and the new one pops in. The 6 torx screws tighten down to a 8 n-M spec. There are links on the LX forums that show a graph of fluid depth relative to fluid temp (at operating temp (170 degrees), the depth of the fluid level is I believe 65mm
The dipstick has marks every 10mm.

Searching will give you more details (dipstick tool part#, Mopar fluid filling procedure for NAG1, which includes the temp vs. depth graph for the ATF fluid level)

Simplest way I've seen people do it is to capture all the fluid when removing, and then replace with an equal amount of new fluid. What I read on the LX forums, they captured 4.5 qts, I had a little bit more, but I also pulled the valve body to install BuilderBill's Gen 2 upgrade (extra 0.3 quart).

PM with specific questions

Pieter

Mine has 28k miles, and I was impressed by how much metal the magnet picked up. (It was worth pulling the pan to clean it all up)

I also installed a Mercedes pan instead of the stock Jeep pan, since it has a drain hole/bolt as part of the pan, making future fluid changes a lot easier, and less messy.

Where did you pick the Mercedes pan up? Part # too would be terrific.

Great post to very informative.

I sold it to him along with the Stage II valve body.:)
All my NAG1's come with the Mercedes pans.
PM me if you want one.

This may need to be my next mod, especially if I can do it myself.

Thanks for the info...I think I can tackle this now. How much do the mecedes pans run. I agree seems like a good mod to do for future fluid changes!!! What kind of fluids do you guys recommend and where do you fill the tranny from?
