: Found my new 08

After being discouraged by the Chicago area prices ($31-35K for an 07, $36-40K for an 08), I managed to find a good deal. I decided to do a search again this morning and found a red rock 08 at a dealership in Iowa. It has 6300 miles, loaded, currently driven by the owner as a demo. I guess there isn't much demand in IA for SRTs, so they dropped the price to $29900. It's never been titled so I think it will have the full 3yr warranty. I called and put down a CC deposit, have a flight reserved for Wed and hopefully if all goes well I'll have a nice 5 1/2 hr road trip driving it back that afternoon. I'll post pics later.

A big THANKS to WS6TA who suggested extending my search, and the countless others on this forum whose helpful posts I've read the past few weeks.

Hopefully I haven't jinxed the deal by posting before I actually have it.;)

Wow you got a smoking deal bro!! Your story sounds just like mine! I bought mine in Iowa too and it was driven by an Executive from Jeep and it was never titled. I too bought it with 6100 miles and it came with a Corsa and Mopar CAI! I also paid at the time 34K for mine just about 2 months ago. Have fun driving it back!! Also welcome to the board!

Nice! :) I'm jealous and I hate you.

Make sure you have it in writing that it's yours for that price so they don't play any games. Enjoy the drive back!

I am glad I could be of help. That's what we are here for.

Nice find. That is a great price.
Patience and persistence is key to finding a good value.

There will always be plenty of Jeep SRT8's for sale in Chicago since they always seem to want at least $2k more than everyone else.

We need pics.:D

This is a must. Always have at least an email showing all of the details including the fact that they will not charge you a documentation fee (dealers pure profit).
I always request lots of pictures as well.

As soon as these criteria are met I give them no more than a $500 deposit (paid by CC in case they play games).

Nice, have fun on your drive home.

I remember my first drive home  It was only 2 miles from the dealership!
As soon as I got home, I took pictures and went for another drive! :)

Good luck on your purchase!!

I'm doing a search right now in Iowa, to try and find that dealer. So I can pick up that sweet ride for that price.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

Well I made it back safely with my new ride:D. Wed I got up at 5 to catch a 6:45 AM flight to Des Moines. Arrived at 8, salesman picked me up at the airport, and from there is was about 50 minutes to the dealership. When I got there first thing I did was inspect the car. I could not find 1 scratch/ding/paint chip anywhere on the body - this thing is like brand new. The only thing I noticed is that the exhaust tips need to be straightened out a little, but no biggie. I took a short test drive just to make sure there were no obvious problems, came back to complete the paperwork, and I was on the road by 10:30. Overall it was the best experience I ever had with a car dealer. Everyone was very nice, down-to-earth, and no high pressure to purchase extras. They asked if I wanted to purchase and extended warranty, I said no, and that was it - no pressure, no attitude. Far different from the pr!ks you encounter at Chicago area dealers. From now on I think I'll buy all of my vehicles from Iowa.

As for the Jeep, all I can say is this thing is freakin wicked! But you guys already know that;). I was really surprised at how it launched from a dead stop. Here are a few pics. All I have to do now is get the damn bugs off the bumper and mirrors - driving through corn land really messed it up.

Did you have a little fun for the first test test with the salesman? Haha.

Nice!
Now your going to want to debadge it, and tint it. It will look MUCH better ;). Also eventually when you get new tires, STAY AWAY from the stock goodyear run-craps. I just gave mine up for a set of Nitto 420s and the difference is HUGE. Softer/ smoother ride, and everything is much quieter

Love the color!
Any plans for power mods??? :D

Yeah the drive back was fun, especially stomping on it coming off the on ramps to get ahead of traffic. The real fun was when I got off the highway. I was making a left onto a sidestreet and hit it a little too hard:D

I think I'll keep it stock for now. Debadge and tint maybe, and I do want to get a clear bra. The stock tires have very little wear, I'll see how they do in the winter. Are the Nittos run-flat, or do you just hope you don't get a flat?

Almost forgot, it is loaded, including HID headlights which I had assumed it did not have since it wasn't mentioned in the listing. I still can't believe the deal I got.

The tires I got don't come in run flat. But the whole reason why I got them was because the goodyears fall apart... Literally. What r u gonna do when 1 of ur front goodyears bursts because of a manufacturer defect.

Well I bought patch a flat and a air compressor, at that point u don't need run flats anymore. I gave up the runflats for performance, and solved the problem of not having runflat tires with fix a flat + compressor

watch for the mod bug! It gets is all

P.s. I love the auto leveling hids, they are sweeeet!

Nice Jeep.

I am glad that you did not have any issues at the dealer. Getting up that early to catch a flight to buy a car is not very fun, however the drive home combined with the $$$$ you saved probably produced many moments of extreme happiness.

Wow..That was a great deal for a loaded 2008 with the SRT II pkg!!

I thought my deal was good but this was much better. I had a trade in so I was forced to use a dealer (or sell outright) in the Chicagoland area. My 08 with the SRT II pkg had just over 23k miles and they sold it to me for $31,000. They also did a full brake job for me and replaced two of tires which were a bit worn. In addition, they fixed a small tear in the leather, replaced the steering wheel, and repaired some minor damage on the front lower bumper (I am VERY picky). I have been looking to get one of these for two years but was tied up in a lease that wouldn't allow me to jump ship until I found a decent deal. I also like that my trade it was valued higher than the SRT so I didn't have to pay TAX on the Jeep !! :D

The ONLY reason I didn't look around for a red rock is because my wife's 2007 Wrangler is that color and thought it would look weird. Two red rock Jeeps sitting next to each other !!

Copout, $31K sounds good considering the list prices I've seen around here. Where did you get it? Also, what happened to the steering wheel?

The black looks real nice and that's what I was initially looking for, but I don't regret getting the RR. Besides my last vehicle that I had for 11 years is black, so I guess it was time for a change.

I bought it from Crystal Lake Jeep / Chrysler before it came in. They had it listed for around $36k and I explained my situation with the lease and how I needed a really good price to justify ending the contract early. They were very cool and the owner let me have it for $31k. I didn't finance or buy the warranty through them since they couldn't beat the deal I was getting from Alliant CU in Des Plaines (United Airlines CU). I think they were a bit dissapointed I didn't go through them (more $$$ for them) but I had to do what was right for myself financially. Overall, I lowered my payment over 200.00 per month and picked up a warranty that covers the rig until 100,000 miles. I really love the truck so far and hope I don't miss the large Tahoe that handled like a cruise ship !!!

The steering wheel leather was peeling at the top so they ordered a new one under warranty (I think). The new wheel that came in has a carbon fiber look and cross stitching that is very cool. I think it's the steering wheel being used in the 2010's. See pic below.

No, I delt with Gary Rosenberg and Bob Pearl. Bob is new there but previously worked for Extreme in McHenry where we bought our Wrangler. Everyone there has been nothing but nice and patient with me. Like I said previously, I am very picky and sometimes demanding !!!
